My wife and I recently spent two nights in Casa Alta, and what a treat! Located on the top of a mountain next to an interesting castle ruin, Casa Alta is a nice retreat while visiting the many World Heritage Sites in the area. Our breakfast and dinners were excellent. The dinners were 25 Euros per person and well worth... More

This unique accommodation was definitely unlike any I had ever had the pleasure to stay in before. Father John is a welcoming semi-retired priest and a very interesting character. My husband and I really enjoyed our evening chatting with him about his life as a priest and his journey from California to a parish on top of a mountain in... More

Like walking into an English country home that has been there for centuries, complete with a large, friendly dog who enjoys 'singing'. The outside, village, grounds and views are as good as everyone says. We loved medieval Ourem! It is an adventure driving up there. If you have a white collar complex, you don't need to worry about Father Mariani.... More

We were on a pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes together with my sister and her husband, and we stayed at the Casa Alta Royal Lodge for 2 nights in early May 2012. The Lodge is about 15mins drive from Fatima town centre. It is a beautiful, warm and cosy lodge and we had the best night’s rest of our whole... More

The 4 of us (wife and I and our sister & brother-in-law) stayed with Fr. John Mariani and his house keeper Valentina at Casa Alta Royal Lodge for 2 nights in early May 2012 during our pilgrimage to Fatima. The whole experience was very good, the rooms were beautiful (especially the suite) and the views were fantastic. We had dinner... More

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Alta and highly recommend this wonderful small inn. The service, location, ameneties and above all Father Mariani were a special treat and totally unsuspected. We had read reviews and liked what we read, but nobody prepared us for the surprise of what we would find when we arrived.Imagine sleeping in a place that was... More

My family of five took my older sister to Portugal to visit Fatima, and it turned out that the Casa Alta Royal Lodge was the highlight of our journey. We were looking for some place special to stay since the primary purpose of our whole trip was to visit Fatima, but we could not find anything in the Fatima that... More

We only spent one night at the lodge and really regretted not having more time. The lodge is sublime. Situated just below the castle and at the edge of the old town of Ourem, there is no shortage of places to explore and views to see. Father John and Valentina are generous hosts. The lodge is well appointed. Our room... More

Difficult to find, but there it is, a small, traditional house, almost against the walls of the castle of Ourem with a splendid view all around. We have been there for professional activity in Ourem but we found the time to visit Fatima and see the new church, Spectacular! And we had the opportunity of enjoying a very interesting evening... I have been going back to Casa Alta for almost ten years now. Discovered it while visiting Portugal for my first time in 2003 and fell in love with the Casa immediately. Go back at least once a year and more if possible. Relaxing atmosphere above the clouds in a walled castle environment. Beautiful gardens with pool make this a... More
