The Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor were so delicious.
However, it is a bit noisy during the night from door-closing noise and walking noise. If you are easily awake, I suggest a pair of earplugs for your better sleep.
The hotel was a model of excellence, and during our 10 day stay never failed to please. The only dissapointment was that the pool was overlooked by apartment blocks, but as we seemed to be the only users, we could enjoy its large size all to ourselves!
If you want to be a few minutes taxi or bus ride(an excellent service) from the hussle and bustle of Macau, but have the benefit of the relative peace of Taipa, this is the place to be. It was also a few minutes walk from the old Portuguese village with specialist shops and eating places. For absolute peace and tranquility, try Hac Sa beach at the the southern end of Coloane,
the island that is linked to Taipa. It is the perfect antidote to the casinos in Macau. Alternatively if you have a head for heights (and a desire to jump from them), visit Macau tower - the revolving restaurant is pretty good too!
Despite the heat we were reluctant to say goodbye to this vibrant and exciting place, which must rival its bigger brother, Hong Kong, for so much to see and do in such relatively small islands. The local people were amongst the friendliest we have encountered in our many travels, and they really understand the meaning of service. We will definately return to the Grandview and Taipa, but later in the year (Oct - Dec) when the temperatures are lower!
The rooms there were okay. Only until I stayed at the Grandview.
The standard room at the Grandview was a lot better! The room was big and definitely looked and felt a lot newer, and more importantly, clean. The bathroom was clean as well. The front desk staff were all helpful. The breakfast was okay. Too bad we werent able to try the other restos in the hotel, though the dinner buffet price as posted in the elevator looked very reasonable.
And I really didnt mind staying in Taipa. It gave me the chance to explore Taipa and savor the treats of Rua de Cunha (the food street) which is about a 15min walk from the hotel (an area I didnt bother to check out during my first two trips). Theres a bus stop right outside the hotel though we always chose to take a taxi since Macau is really small we never spent more than MOP30 per trip. Within Taipa, we only get to pay the flagdown rate of MOP10! The atmosphere is a lot more relaxed in this area. There's a supermarket near the hotel, several pharmacies and small convenieces stores, a 7/11 just street behind the hotel, a Park N Shop is also within walking distance. There's also a small dvd shop about two blocks away that closes at 2:30am for last minute shopping! I would'nt know about the casinos in the area as I've never entered any of them since I first visited Macau. My Macau trips are mostly food trips, adventure trips(Macau Tower activities) and endless photo opportunities.
There were only two not so good encounters with regards to our stay in Grandview. First, is the concierge desk. We went to the concierge twice and was disappointed that the one who was seated there (it was a lady that time - around 130pm of March 4) didnt know how to speak English! She was still there the next day so we didnt bother and just got additional brochures. This failed in comparison with our previous experience with another Macau hotel. Second, during our third day (after our full day Hongkong trip) we arrived at the ferry terminal in time to catch the last (free) shuttle bus to the hotel. When we saw the parked bus, the driver didnt seem to understand us and obviously had difficulties communicating with us, and refused to open the bus for us. We even showed him the hotel card suggesting to him that we are hotel guests! He was waving his hand moving his head as if saying "no". So we hailed a cab to the hotel. After a few minutes we went down from our room to take a quick snack outside the hotel and there he was, the driver arriving at the hotel driveway. He just looked at us and scratched his head. O well...
But that wouldn't prevent us from staying again there. The location of the hotel is a lot more peaceful and ideal if you want a relaxed vacation.
