I'm currently staying in Room 1723.

Been staying at this hotel since the 12th this time and also between 1st and 8th in the same room.

This is probably the cheapest five star hotel in Macau and usually charges less than half, sometimes a third of the room rates of major international brand hotels such as Sofitel and Mandarin Oriental.

Got upgraded to this room during recent two visits. Room was well appointed with super comfortable bed mattresses and an equally comfortable sofa with a great view of the city. The TV offers channels in different languages next to a comfortable chair and desk. The water pressure and temperature control is also flawless in the bathroom. We slept well in this room.

The gym is also well maintained.

Nevertheless I've got to admit the soundproofing here is poor. You can easily hear people talking in the corridor and even in their own rooms even when all the doors are closed.

Last but not least I sincerely call on the staff here to be more proactive, like smiling to everyone and greeting every guest a simple good morning or good evening. Bell boys SHOULD not just look on and do nothing while check in guests haul their luggage off the cab and toward the front desk, which happened to me on Jan 1 upon check in.

Also there should be a duty manager, maybe two during peak hours, patrolling the lobby and directing guests to the correct check in and check out queues and talking to guests especially regular ones about their feedback. This personal touch is sorely missing here. I've also noticed the lobby to be quite chaotic on several occasions with mainland Chinese tourists blocking the entrance to the lift lobby during check in and check out in addition to the queue jumping. Hence the need for the presence of a duty manager in the lobby.

But given the competitive room rates here, it would be unfair to compare it with other international brand five star hotels because they belong in different price categories.

Dear Alex Z, Thank you for taking the time to share your comment with us on TripAdvisor. Being the first 5-star hotel in Macau, providing impeccable hotel experience at affordable prices is always our mission. We are delighted to know that you are satisfied with our attentive service, comfortable guest room with well-equipped facilities, gym and friendly staff. It is true that our lobby can be very busy between the group tour check-in time and that occasionally creates certain noise, though we do try our utmost to ensure that there is minimal inconvenience to our guests. Please rest assured that we have taken note of your comment and will review with relevant department. It was a pleasure to have you with us on your recent visit to Macau. In a city where hotels are abundant, we truly appreciate that you have chosen to stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you again soon! Yours sincerely, Hotel Royal Macau

At first, we expected the lobby to be bigger since we were told that Hotel Royal Macau was a 4-star hotel, but as we were greeted by the accommodating staff, we did not care about the superficial details anymore. We were even given instructions to navigate around Macau and tips to not get rigged off by vendors and tours! When we needed assistance to book a ride going to the airport, we were taken care of. (Kudos to the Filipino staff!)

After checking in and settling in during the first night, we headed to a nearby restaurant that was still open past midnight and a convenience store that provided our wants and needs.

The following days, we found out that there were a lot of restaurants nearby, so you don't have to worry about traveling around with an empty stomach.

When we visited the historical center of Macau (Ruins of St. Paul, Senado Square, Macao Museum, etc.) and the Guia Lighthouse, we didn't have to ride a taxi or bus because those destinations were just nearby, around 10-15 minutes walk.

Though, if you do need to ride a bus, there are bus stations that are close to the hotel. Just check the bus numbers that you need to wait for. If you need to go to the Macau Ferry Terminal to ride a bus going to the Venetian Macau, Parisian Macau, Studio City, and etc., the hotel provides shuttle services for free as well. Location and transportation: check.

As for the food, the hotel houses a restaurant, bar, and bakery. Don't forget to try their cookies (they're delicious and can be tasted for free!). But, like I said, there are several restaurants wherein you can eat at nearby.

After a long day, who wouldn't want to rest in comfortable and neat rooms? For a family of six, the two rooms became a haven! Plus, this hotel is one of the cheapest hotels that delivers excellent service in Macau, compared to other expensive hotels in the so-called modern Macau.

When we are thinking of the options of 5 stars hotel in town, Hotel Royal usually is the one left in cold. Of course you can’t expect their toilet seat to be equipped with washlet, electronic curtain or voice over control in room. However if you are looking for a stay to enjoy the surroundings and facilities in the hotel. Hotel Royal provides you the best option at a very attractive price. We stayed there under the Macau government campaign. We made use of the hotel credit to try their afternoon tea buffet at about MOP$120 per person. Very value for money

Been a while since we visited this wonderful hotel, nestled in Macau’s lovely historic district away from the hustle and bustle of other parts of the city. Hotel as always is immaculate and services impeccable. We dined at its renowned Catalpa Garden Shanghainese Restsurant, never disappoint. One of the best Shanghainese restaurants in the region and a must visit for those traveling to the city.

A cheaper 5 star hotel near Macau Old Town. The location is really the draw. Expensive breakfast is a let-down, with little choice and some of the worst tea to be had. No choice either, unless you want to charged extra. Service quality is low, green hostelry is proclaimed but not practices (plastic toothpicks!). Air conditioning in the rooms is switched off when we were there and you are at the mercy of central air.

İn a nutshell, this hotel is a good value for money
Location is good, every major attraction is in walking distance. Macau is a very walkable city.
Hotel needs renovation but it was very clean, room was pretty spacious and cosy with all necessary toiletries. Room cleaning was very good. I am a very fastidious person so I give this hotel high rating for paying attention to cleanliness. The swimming pool zone was very clean as well.
Food in restaurant was good, breakfast choice is small but everything was tasty. Special thanks for the guy who made omelets. Hotel has shuttle bus service. I enjoyed my stay.
One comment: I think they need to put one more sofa in lobby. In the evening the hotel gets crowded with checkout guests and guests have nowhere to seat .

This is a very nice hotel away from the glitz of the casino areas. The area has nice shopping and historical sites within easy walking distance. The pool was nice, the staff was friendly and helpful. The only issue I had was that there are fewer towels than in most other nice hotels, only a bath towel but no wash cloths or hand towels. If you are interested in gambling they do have a free shuttle to that area, but they do not have an airport shuttle.

We made a reservation online the day before my birthday and decided to extend one more day to celebrate my birthday in the hotel. We booked at the front desk , the price was reasonable and we got free breakfast for two and a free birthday cake. The hotel also have an excellent customer service specially the one who assisted us at the reception, Ms. Queenie was very kind and welcoming and even gave us free room upgrade. Will surely stay in this hotel again.

Came at the Lobby Lounge to meet a friend from the area. The server was nice, she explained about the happy hour menu. The only thing that I think should be addressed was the scent at the Lobby Lounge. It’s quite disturbing as it is too strong. I think scent, ambiance, music should all go hand in hand. Music was off, you can here everybody’s business. At first I thought it was just guest’s perfume, but guests near my table were gone for some time already but the strong scent was still there, and tbh it’s really too much. I really think this things should be addressed.
