Hotel is located slightly outside of the city center very close to Fort Guia and the highest elevation of Macau (not that high - don't fear!). The hotel provides complimentary shuttle sevice to Hotel Lisboa (best known casino) and the city center, which I did not use. My room was very comfortable offering all amenties a hotel room should be equipped with. Flatscreen TV (with less English channels), minibar with free beverages, comfortable bed and a bathroom with a tube. The staff of the reception spoke a good English, although foreigners from Europe or America were a rare occurence.
Hotel Guia is definitely a good choice!
The hotel is situated towards the top of the hill leading up to the fort and lighthouse and is a bit of a walk from the main shopping and Casino areas. However there is a bus stop about 50 metres from the hotel and also they have a courtesy bus which will drop you off/pick up at various places. We used the courtesy bus to go back to the ferry terminal which took less than 10 minutes.
We only stayed there one night but the staff seemed very helpful and they also looked after our suitcase while we explored the island after we had checked out. I would reckomend this hotel to anyone and think it's really good for the price we paid. I will book here gain if I go back to Macau.
With this hotel, you get exactly what they advertise.
LOCATION:
Perfect location for us who wanted to see the casinos and visit the city. Its about 10-15 minutes walk to the Lisboa, MGM and Wynn. Cheap taxi ride from ferry to hotel. Its next to the Fort and beautiful park where people jog, stretch or simply take a peaceful walk. I only wish they had a coffee shop closer to the hotel.
STAFF:
Okay staff, not great, not bad.
ROOM:
It is what it is, a 3*. The beds were hard but not hard enough where you cant sleep. We had a non smoking room but the bed sheets smelled like cigarettes really badly which I did not like. Im assuming they just wash all bed sheets together therefore mine where probably in a smoking room before. If its the case, I suggest that the hotel should not mix the bed sheets in between types of rooms. Good shower!
I had to call front office and check if cookies, sachets of instant coffee and two bottles of water were actually complimentary.
A very good hotel for tourists who want a decent but inexpensive hotel.
Our twin room was small but clean and faced the side street that goes up to the lighthouse - this was very quiet even in morning peak hours, and had the bonus of looking across at a restored heritage listed building currently used by the UN. The bathroom was a good size and included a full-sized bath (not to be taken for granted in this part of the world) with a retractable washing line above it. Water pressure was excellent, with hot water coming through quickly.
Front desk staff were friendly, happy to speak English and efficient, although I don't know how things would be in peak times as the reception area is quite small.
We didn't try the restaurant as it was being renovated - due to reopen yesterday.
It took us about 15 minutes to stroll down the hill to the town centre (Senado square), and if we were too tired to walk back up again we would catch the No.6 bus from just outside the HSBC main office.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for people who are interested in the non-gambling / nightlife side of Macau.
"I don't think it makes much difference where your room is, but ours was on the 5th floor and did have a limited view."Read full review
