A wonderful hotel away from any crowds. The staff are excellent and cater for your every demand. Rooms away from the main building are villas in the countryside with the advantage of being able to use the main building for bar, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The main building is very interesting having a lot of history. We had room 21... More

Monaci delle Terre Nere is a remarkable hotel set in its own biodynamic estate. It is very professionally run and situated in a beautiful location on the lower slopes of Mt Etna. We picked up a late vacancy in an otherwise fully booked run and were delighted with the facilities, the food but most of all the service. All of... More

we spent one night at Monaci in October. Rooms and location leave nothing to be desired, we had a problem with the reservation (wrong room category (the given room was lower than we paid for) that would not be changed) that was probably due to the internet platform we we made the reservation with (splendia). I did however have an... More

My trip to Sicily the other week was outstanding despite the torrential rains. I stayed at Monaci in Room 14. This room is a few meters from the main building with incredible views of the sea and the vineyards. The bed was comfortable and I really appreciated the fireplace during the cool nights. While the hotel and the grounds are... More

I loved everything about Monaci delle Terre Nere! The room was modern, sophisticated and embellished with Sicilian antiques. The food was delicious and the wine is one of my favorite producers. Breakfast was one of the most memorable that I have ever had complete with eggs, fruit juice and jams, honey and cheese all produced on the property. The reception... More

Absolutely perfect place to stay if you plan to visit Sicily and particularly to go to Etna. Relaxing atmosphere and privacy. We liked the service very much and found our room stylish and very well equipped.

In 40 years of travel I have rarely stayed somewhere that I have enjoyed more. I should say from the outset that that this is not a place for everyone. It is definitely quirky. It is set in a working farm growing much of its own food and as such is certainly not a well manicured luxury hotel. Our room... More

A beautiful setting and some charming staff. However at these prices one would expect much much more. We stayed in room 13,a converted outbuilding and one of the nearer rooms to the main building, The room had a newly refurbished bathroom suite, however the shower cubicle was dated and mouldy. The path to the hotel was only paved in parts... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 2007, by chance, I stumbled upon this place, fell in love with it and decided to devote my life to its resurrection. To bring this place, previously chosen by the monks of Saint Anna’s order for his special energy and extraordinary charm, back to life. It has become the second great project of my life. The estate Monaci delle Terre Nere is situated along the slopes of Mount Etna, the biggest volcano in Europe on the border of the Etna National Park at 500mt above sea level. My wish has been to preserve the historic identity and local traditions, more than a Boutique Hotel it is a home which I hope retains its intimacy. The house which dates from 1800 is listed as one of historical importance. It is now a place where traditional Sicilian Architecture is combined with contemporary art and living. ... more   less
