What an idyllic place to spend a couple of days. There is not much to do other than snorkel, dive or kayak round the island, we stayed two full days and thoroughly enjoyed it! A third would have been fine but after that it might have become a little claustrophobic. You are contained in two small bays which are fairly... More

Lovely and peaceful. Beware if you're in tent one and the wind picks up, you feel as if the whole tent is going to take off. Toko and Mateus were good fun and we had a good few games of bawo. Food is excellent, breakfast and main course served buffet style. Slow pace and you can do as much or... More

Had a great stay for 3 nights on Mumbo with some friends. Spectacular setting to rest and unwind in. No electricity or wifi, just pure relaxation! (Solar chargers available.) Snorkelling, kayaking, swimming available and diving for a price ($90 for 2 dives.) Our host Danie looked after us well. Food was fabulous too - well worth a visit!!

This has been reviewed as one of the Worlds best Ecolodges and rightfully so! Nothing runs on Power. No hot water on tap. Just a very cozy and beautifully located chalets with "outdoorish bathrooms", ambsolutely Amazing nature, great food, secluded beach, fish eagles and otters just around the corner and in the middle of it all, you, with the feeling... This place is just as gorgeous (perhaps more) than the pictures and reviews suggest. The chalets were amazing (choose 1, 4, or 5), everything was clean, the design is perfect, and it was so relaxing. Plus, the nature is unparalleled. I loved snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and hiking around the island. This would be a 5/5 rating except that the food... More

The camp is an eco camp and their approach is indeed very environment friendly. It is run by Kayak Africa and their own description is a "basic camp". However, this is actually very comfortable place. There is no electricity and I actually preferred it - sitting on my deck looking at the lake and the starry African skies - nothing... More

We stayed only one night with our 2 kids there but could enjoy most of what the island has to offer: wildlife, snorkelling, peacefulness, wonderful sunset, canoes, kindness of all the staff. Rooms offer perfect conditions for stay despite the location. This place is a jewel on the lake. Let's hope it'll be kept like this for many years to... More

It's been nearly 5 months since I visited Mumbo Island, but it's a place I can't get out of my mind. Absolutely beautiful eco-friendly lodges overlooking the sea in the most perfect, special way imaginable. Mouth-watering, simple, delicious food. Great walks and sunset cruises. We enjoyed some scuba diving in the sparkling clear water of Lake Malawi. Truly wonderful staff... More

We stayed for two nights on Mumbo (and one on Domwe) and I would describe it as eco luxury. We kayaked over from the mainland which was really fun and added to the adventure experience. The food was some of the best we had in Malawi and all the staff treated us extremely well. We went swimming around the island... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set on a pristine, practically deserted tropical island, the eco-friendly Mumbo Camp is surrounded by crystal-clear waters. Lake Malawi National Park is the first in the world set aside for the protection of freshwater fish and therefore, not surprisingly, one of the best freshwater diving locations on the planet. With an idyllic lake view, you can while the hours away on the hammock on your private deck. Refreshments are served in the dining area and pub. Be warned, this lazy island lifestyle is contagious!Did you know?Mumbo Island Camp has partnered with Malawi's Department of National Parks and Wildlife to put an end to illegal fishing operations in this sanctuary.Lake Malawi is Africa's third largest and second deepest lake. Mumbo is just one of the miombo woodland islands that pepper the lake. Your activities include scuba diving and snorkelling, while kayaking and boating allow you to explore the surrounding granitic islands.Over 2 000 species of colourful freshwater fish grace our lake. Spotted-necked otter are often seen while the rarer Cape clawless otter, less so. On the island you can see rainbow skinks and large water monitors.
