When I had lost my passport, Ms.Elvina and Mr. Juin went all the way to assist me in making the police report, in getting Immigration Authorities to grant me a permit of extended stay at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges as-well-as arranging to buy my return air ticket. Dear Customer’s Service, My team and I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Elvina and Juin and their team of staff for their services provided to us during our stay at Kinabalu Park HQ from 15th to 19th April 2018. My wife and I went there for our honeymoon trip. We booked Peak Lodge 1 for two nights. We truly enjoyed our stay there. We got the perfect view of Mt. Kinabalu, especially during sunset! Not to forget, the room was lovely. We had our very own fireplace. The staff was helpful and fast to assist light up the fireplace, Highly recommend this place for honeymoon! p/s: the rate is expensive though. Be prepared to bring extra money or own food!

This was my fifth time climbing Mt Kinabalu and probably the 3rd time with Sutera Sanctuary Lodge (SSL) after they took over and monopolize the facilities. As a locally born and grown Sabahan, I am totally disappointed with SSL on my last Mt Kinabalu climbing experience with them. This is a long review on why is this so: 1) ridiculous price but reduced user experience - I used to pay less than RM200 back in 2002 on my first climb. Laban Rata was the hot spot for all climbers for superb facilities: heater in bedroom and water heater in shower. Not to mention, the drinking water was also provided as free of charge. On my last climb this year, I was charged RM1550 which is 7 times higher (my wife was charged RM2000 as she is foreigner). Unfortunately, there is no where in SSL…

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for taking the time to highlight our shortcomings during your recent stay. We do take account all your valuable comments as it helps us to further evaluate our products and services and ensure our guests have a comfortable stay. The climbing fees in 2002 were RM17 per person however, nothing was included in the package. After SSL took over, the rates have since increased as we have included 5 meals apart from lodging. This is also due to the yearly rise of inflation as well as increased porters’ fee that helps transfer goods up to Laban Rata Resthouse on a daily basis. The porters’ fee increases a few times in a year, in fact as we speak, I have a proposal on my desk from their association requesting to negotiate their fees for this year. But in order to help with their livelihood, it leaves us with no choice and to reflect the cost on the package pricing. At the moment, our website is currently under construction. Once our website is up and running we will definitely include all our rates including the Sabahan rates which is RM150 per person. Panalaban has only one genset that belongs to the Public Works Department in Timpohon and is currently being shared among the lodgings namely Lemaing Hostels, Pendant Hut, SSL’s Staff Quarters as well as Sabah Parks’ Staff Quarters. The limited supply of electricity has meant that we have had to opt to cut out heating and electricity in favour of other more immediate necessities such as lighting in order to avoid constant power outages. We have requested for a higher capacity generator but it was not approved. Therefore, understanding the need for warm showers for the comfort of our guests, we installed solar power panels to heat water for showering purposes. Mount Kinabalu is a world heritage site, and as a company with eco-friendly values, we have sought to reduce carbon footprints as much as we can and preserve the mountain in its most natural state. Due to the 2015 earthquake, our main water source from the mountain has been contaminated and is not safe for consumption, even after boiling it. The well-being of our guests is our great concern and alternatively, we provide bottled drinking water for purchase. As the only means of transferring these bottled water is by hiring porters to carry it up by foot hence, we are charging RM14 for a 1.5L bottle and RM7 for a 500ml bottle. The mountain guides and porters are under the purview of their association and their meals are provided at the guide’s quarters. The notice is displayed to inform climbers, it is not compulsory to buy meals for the guides however, they are welcome to do so, should they wish to dine with their guide. I understand your concern on the unevenness of the steps for the hiking route, unfortunately this is under the jurisdiction of Sabah Parks. But rest assured your comments have been duly noted. Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience we have caused during your stay with us. The Lodge is where we stay. It has 2 bed rooms, a king size bed and 2 twin beds in the other room. There is a sitting room with TV, a fire place and a dinning room with mini fridge. A kettle and coffee making facilities too. It is about 5 minutes walk to Kinabalu Park Hq where climbers meet to register. This is a nice and comfort place for family and friends..
