I have travelled all over CR in the 21 years I have lived here and La Carolina Lodge is still my favorite place to visit. It was great when I was single and needed a place to escape and connect with nature and it is still amazing with young kids and family. They continuously provide activities for all ages and...

Six of us visited recently. We stayed three nights and were fortunate to have the cabin with the hot tub. There is also a hot tub located by the river and both are emptied / cleaned / filled daily and are heated with wood. Our plan was to head to Rio Celeste but that didn't happen due to heavy rains...

This place is simply amazing! Yes I know it sounds over the top- but it is a unique mix of a rustic setting with the comforts that really make one feel the romance of the countryside. Don't distress going down the 3 mile or so rutted and rock strewn road that gets you there- have patience- its worth the slow...

We traveled here with our two children in March and it was the highlight of our time in Costa Rica. La Carolina Lodge was an absolutely perfect way to spend a few days off the beaten path, relaxing and truly enjoying nature. While at La Carolina, we were able to ride horses, milk cows and have a fantastic guided tour...

Wow, where do I start...? I had been thinking about staying at this what looked like unbelievably beautiful family-owned farm for over a year, when my hubby finally said, "yes, you can plan yet another trip to Costa Rica" and so there we went for spring break in April. I had no idea of the history of the place and...

Hi, my name is Bill Harwell and I am the owner of La Carolina Lodge with my wife and two young sons. We have never responded to any guests comments preferring to let the Trip Advisor system to work fairly and properly. Although after reading this review we feel compelled to respond. We take extreme pride in our horses and...

I've given La Carolina 5 stars because it fulfilled everything we wanted, not because it is luxurious or a typical 5 star accomodation. My husband and I had a blast, we milked cows, we swam in the river, we rode horses, watched the little green lightening bugs at night, we listened to Alejandro (the guide) tell us about the Celeste...

I am late to writing a review for La Carolina, but I still think about the wonderful experience we had there last year. The staff was kind and helped take care of our needs. The river cabin was basic, but cozy and lovely. La Carolina is truly a magical place and I look forward to returning!

I absolutely fell in love with this place. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is wonderful, and my cabina was perfect. I only spent two nights here but easily could have stayed much longer. First - the food. Delicious fresh juice at every meal and on request. Delicious coffee. Yes, there is rice and beans with every meal, but I...

We had a wonderful stay at La Carolina. It's an amazing, magical place. Perfect for decompressing from modern digital life. Our cabin by the river (Mariposa) was rustic yet comfortable. We loved sitting on the porch listening to the river, particularly in the evenings, watching the fireflies. As others state, the food is great. We particularly enjoyed the fresh juices...

We stayed here with a 2 and 4yr old this past week and loved it. There were several families, even ones with kids our age. A very family friendly place, lots of activities for all ages and activity levels. We took the kids horseback riding (in our laps), hiking to rio celeste (just to the waterfall and back), on the...
