Though we’re not in luck with the durian season this year, we really appreciate the hospitality throughout our 3D2N stay here, glamping in a sizeable outdoor hall that we rented for less than RM100 per night. On a normal day the hall can actually hold up to 3 mid-sized tents at one time, but since we were the only guests there during our stay (except for 1 family staying for a night in a double-storey bamboo lodge and some convoy of riders making a daytrip to the river) we basically have the whole hall (and nature) to ourselves haha!
So, the location…
The resort is kinda secretly tucked (reminds me of a ¾ Platform scene in Harry Potter) behind the Burmese Pool sign board, located at the foothills of Maxwell Hill (Bukit Larut). The person in charge Wenesa was prompt in guiding us over the phone on the exact direction to the resort. Basically, we drove through a precarious-looking bridge (while draw awkward stares from onlookers who probably has no idea where we're heading to) and from there continue on a short drive and reach a gated private property where Wenesa was there to greet us on our arrival and later carried out the SOPs required.
We couldn’t drive the car directly through the resort to reach our hall, so we drove some distance to a limit where Wenesa would allow us to, drop off our belongings and do a short reverse back to the parking area. Wenesa and her team were also quick to help us carry things all the way to the hall making the check-in transition a breeze. While the kids settle down and my hubby busy with the tent set up, I joined Wenesa for a briefing with another guest. We took a brief tour around the resort, a short walk along the beautiful river with mini waterfall and its serene cascades while Wenesa explains which part of the dip suitable for little ones and adults, and we even met the resident pets there (essential to keep unwanted guests like snakes).
Then, we’re left on our own, pretty much. Wenesa would check in occasionally to see if we need to get anything from town, she was very thoughtful to even help takeaway a famous local drink for us to try! We assure her that we have everything we need for our stay as we didn’t want to trouble her and her team too much. I guess she was just as surprised at how self-reliant we are as glampers haha, but we were grateful all the same that she took care of us a lot.
The facility…
There's a spacious common kitchen area that's fully equipped for preparing full meals, stove to do your cooking and double basin for washing and unlike other kitchens that were set up for campers' convenience, this was probably THE most complete (and CLEANEST) kitchen facility that every cooking grandma would approve, not to mention the fridge available for guests' usage, and a chest freezer that's meant to store ICE only, all you can use! Most importantly, it is well maintained by the staffs as they would also prepare and cook their meals there too. If you happen to stumble upon them cooking your favourite Indonesian dish, I'm sure they’ll be glad to share!
Nature would certainly be pleased to have more than enough recycling bins placed around the resort. There's even a separate bin for the guests to properly discard their cooking oils, something I never thought a camping resort would have done but would be great to have such convenience around elsewhere. There’s a small basin for washing hands and tap stationed at both halls but since the water directly flows to the downstream river, we were told not to do heavy washing as the villagers that lived around there would complain. The dos and donts, best to observe.
The bathroom facility is amazing with its beautiful bamboo structure and intricate workmanship on the roof, door and walls. There's 2 toilets and 1 dedicated shower for both ladies and gents. Toilet rolls are provided, liquid hand soaps are always next to the water tap and having right choice of tiles ensure that the floor will not be wet and slippery with guests walking in and out, hence easier to maintain. No water heater, however, but even if we’re glampers that’s not an issue for us at all. Perhaps a small concern for campers, on what the bathroom would look like if both halls are in full occupancy?
The outdoor hall that we stayed in overlooks a small lake with fishes in it and it was a beautiful sight to wake up to the next day. What are the odds of waking up on a Monday morning to the sound of chirping birds and soothing waters of the river nearby? It probably won't happen on a weekend or a public holiday, as this place is usually on full house occupancy, and both halls (small and large) are equipped with a fantastic karaoke set up to accommodate a huge number of guests. I would prefer the serenity that nature brings to our camping (glamping?) trip, actually.
When Wenesa and her team retreat to their respective rooms located on the other end of the resort, it feels like there's no one around except us occupying this place. At night, the resort and its surroundings has ample lights turned on so it didn't feel intimidating at all walking alone to the bathroom during midnight toilet trips.
Weather was perfect throughout our stay even though Taiping is known for being the wettest town in Malaysia. We spent our time with the kids in the river on a late afternoon, swimming with the fishes in it and lying down on the rocks to unwind for what seemed like an eternity. On our second night however, it rained heavily during our sleep, the river saw quite a rapid flow the next day morning but was quick to recover to its usual serene mode as soon as the sun shows up.
The beauty of this place left me speechless and craving for a return even as I am writing this. You can tell how far the management has gone in keeping this resort up and running; the lengths that they go to ensure that proper SOPs are adhered to upon check-in, the sustainable practice that I noticed was working hard behind the scenes while operating within a semi orchard environment, the fine craftmanship that goes into the double-storey bamboo lodges and facilities (bathroom, kitchen, store room and staffs accommodation) and most importantly the team that ran the place and work tirelessly to ensure that everything is, well, in place. It's almost like looking into a complex system of an ant colony, where everything is in OCD perfect order and nothing's amiss.
Thanks again for having us!

Очень просторное и тихое место в красивейших джунглях Малайзии, окруженное горами и джунглями. Рядом протекает горная река, в которой можно искупаться. Если хотите уйти от суетливого движения города, то Вам сюда.

Taiping bamboo resort is located in the hills, surrounded by astonishing wild beauty. There are different types of accomodation, including camping site. Houses are very comfortable and clean, with hot shower. There are mountain streems with natural swimming pools and two open halls for group activities. Highly recommended.
