The cafe on the third floor was closed the whole time I was there. However, there are plenty of places to eat nearby so it's not a problem. The location is good, about a 5-minute walk from the bus terminal, so I can accept the fact that the rooms are a little old and the walls in the hallway are pink for some reason. The price is reasonable, so I think this hotel is well worth recommending. The bed was just the right firmness and was very comfortable. I also thought it was a nice touch that there was a water server in the hallway.

I had wanted to try out Hotel 57 which is newer but the walking distance was too far from bus terminal so decided to re-visit B&S to also take an opportunity to review it again as since my previous review this hotel has received a rather mixed rating from good to bad (management).

My assessment this time was that it has aged and probably due to management, not enough attention was paid to housekeeping. While the room I stay (0365) was clean and in relatively good condition - toilet working, water pressure strong for bathing, TV reception good, free wifi (but signal not consistent) etc, the bed sheet and pillow cover were soiled. Room wise, there are quite a few empty, but counter staff gave me one that is without window and the door closer was not working well - to my shock that when I returned to my room after dinner, I found the door to be not properly shut (see attached photo). Fortunately my passport and some small cash (for emergency) were intact. It goes to say that the housekeeping staff did not attend to such security details.

For M$98, the price is considered relatively higher than those hotels nearby, especially for short stay - it could have been more expensive as the counter staff wanted to add breakfast to the bill - so it is important to make clear if one does not wish to take breakfast in the hotel - and pay the extra. One of the reasons to stay in this hotel is that within walking distance of all direction, there are plenty to good food around - Chinese, Malay and Indian food and there is no reason at all to eat in the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with window, which gives extra lighting as lighting in room would be dim.

Pros-
Staff are friendly and helpful to your request.
All rooms are on the same floor.
Location is good as it is very near to the central bus terminal.
Cons-
A Convention centre occupies the entire floor above . It gets noisy and when the function for the night is over, the noise from the staff moving all the chairs and tables around is disturbing.
Rooms are a little run down- holes can be seen on the ceiling of the bathroom and bedroom.Linen for bed and pillows have stains on them.
Breakfast food is to be avoided if possible- you can get so much better food and variety outside.Even though B'fast is Free but Really ,not worth your time.
Rooms sizes can be a bit cramped but are designed to be just enough for what you need-no more.
Overall-summary
If a cosy bed and a place to rest with air con and a reasonable price is what you need- then this will work for you. After all the adventure is out and about in Batu Pahat!.

We, few of us staying in this hotel recently in August and we have experienced a very bad management from this hotel. The bed sheet are not clean and have stains into it. while we complaint to the management, they do not respond to us thus only come to change it for us after 2 hours+.

When we checked out, the representative inform us ok for everything, and we being told that we have paid for the rooms and the staff also reminded us don't leave anything inside the room. We did asked them to checked in details. The staff say yes already paid. After we go out from the hotel, the staff came to us and tell us that we still haven't pay for the hotel rooms. We told them your staff say we have paid and OK to leave the hotel. End up we went back to the hotel and make the payment. When the hotel manager came to us and tell us we still have not paid, I told her the same story that we experienced just now, and the manager seems not very polite to us of not paying for the rooms.
I never experienced a hotel manager behave like this before. It was my first trip to Batu Pahat and first time and my last time to stay in this hotel. I do not want to come back to this hotel anymore.

My family 5 of us stayed at Premier Grand Deluxe (3 pax, RM148 nett) and Super Grand Deluxe (2 pax, RM148 nett) for 1 night. What a grotty experience we had, wonder how could it be ranked no.1 in tripadvisor.

Pros:

1. Central location.

2. Receptionist was helpful.

3. Toilet was clean.

Cons:

1. The rooms were obviously worn out and the wall had coffee stains, water leaking stains, paints dropped off, the designer chair and the cushion were dirty.

2. The bedsheets, pillow covers, quilt covers were no longer white, they were indeed light grey in color. These are the most important things to keep hygenic but the hotel failed to keep them new and clean.

3. The pillows were flat, I guess the hotels did not change to new ones ever since they opened 3 years ago.

4. Wifi not working. Very weak signal.

5. Lousy breakfast. Nasi Lemak, Fried noodles, sambal eggs, baked beans, thinly cut sausage, Porridge with chai poh, ikan bilis, peanuts, spring onions, shallots, bread with butter and jam. that's all. Worse was the food all not kept warm, even the coffee and the tea was not hot at all. The only highlight was the sambal egg (since no meat can be found) and it took a long time to replenish. Awful meal.

6. i requested for iron and ironing board, the iron was old and the ironing board was even worse, it couldn't even stand still.

7. Low quality shampoo and bath gel. Did not expect very good quality but this really need to be improved.

8. Sound proof was very bad. The toilet doors apparently didn't work well for each room, you have to bang the door in order to close it. This was disturbing as some other hotel guests they came back at 2 or 3am, bang the door and literally woke us up. It was very clear to hear when people walked or talked from outside or next door, my family could not sleep well at all.

Overall a very bad experience, I do not think it deserve no.1 hotel in Batu Pahat. We do not recommend it at all. Though a room cost RM150 (cheaper than PIne Tree and Katerina), we will not go back to the hotel again due to the cons above. Without quality sleep and clean beds, we were extremely tired the next day to attend relatives' wedding. Should have paid more for better hotels.

Please be reminded to request for tooth brush, wifi password etc when you check in.

We stayed at this hotel recently and received a fantastic welcome from the friendliest of staff we have ever come across. They could not have been more helpful. My husband was carrying out research for a book he plans to write and the management organised a driver for us to various locations in the area. We were invited to join a Ramadam supper on our first night -which was delicious - and the manager organised for us to sample the local biryani speciality the following day, unprompted.

The hotel was spotless, chic and defintiely lived up to it's boutique billing. We can't recommend this place highly enough and the B &S team are certainly the very best example of Malaysian hospitality.

I have stayed at many hotels here. But this is far better than most. The rooms was big. With 2 queen bed and we could add 2 single bad still with enough place for 4 kids to run around. The room has no carpet which i was happy with( i have a 10month old who does sit quietly).Bathroom was okay but may abit small for 4 kids inside at the same time.Food was nothing so great but the service is. I was a vegetarian when i was staying there the staff actually took the trouble to order ala-carte for me and in such big portion with no extra charge. The staff there are very much friendly. I will surely stay here when i come back. Thanks

I went last weekend where we book 2 rooms - (1 room with 1 double bed and 1 room with 1 double bed and 1 single bed with window). The rooms are clean and comfortable with wifi-connection. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are not sound proof whereby for the room with window facing the street, we hear noise from the street, whilst for the other room, we can hear noise from people talking at the corridor. Other than the foregoing, we would recommend the hotel for your stay in Batu Pahat.

Breakfast food selection is very limited.
Hotel amenities provided are very basic - no extra items like toothbrush & combs. Kettle looks old, heating rod looks brown. Very limited channels. Noise outside can be heard easily. Renovation seems nice but overall experience is less than satisfactory. Price paid is considered high for this basic hotel.

I choosed this hotel after reading the review. I really love the family room, it is well designed. My son really love the room. There are ample parking behind the hotel. The staffs are very friendly. There was not very much choice of breakfast. This hotel is middle of the town, it is nearly to Batu Pahat bus station and temples. In request, they give kettle, no coffee or tea in the room.
