Detailed Reviews
Our experience was similar to the last poster's. We opted for the Loft Suite but were upgraded when we got there to the 5 bedroom Pool Suite because it was off-season. (This experience will likely never happen to me again now that I am letting the cat out of the bag about THE place to stay in Anguilla.)
Their van met us at the dock at Blowing Point and whisked us to the Villas.
As we followed them to a huge building, I gasped at the beauty of the lobby and asked if our villa was nearby.
They laughed and said, "This IS your villa!" We were absolutely stunned!
The gorgeous view across to St. Martin, the stunning sweeping patio with a pool and hot tub, a computer room, a gym downstairs, a state-of-the-art kitchen, lovely bedroom(besides 4 others), a closet room, a bath & sitting room and a huge living room with enormous flat screen TV (that I stupidly thought was the lobby!) and dining room, all contributed to one magnificent and tastefully done villa.
Knowing that Robert De Niro & family was there before us, I can truthfully say I shared his bed!!
We finally got to meet our villa attendants -- Santiago, our wonderful cook, Viviana, his assistant for breakfast who is a whiz at stunning flower arrangements, Sheraul, the able butler and hors d'oeuvres and rum punch server, the beautiful evening assistant and proud young mama of 5 year old Beyonce, Semonia, and our ever loving housekeeper, Maria -- all so sweet, all so willing to aid us.
Thanks go to Samantha, Jeannine, Marcia and Jason of the concierge staff who couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.
The only "drawback" (if you can call it that) is that it doesn't sit on a beach. However, they have a reciprocal with Cap Juluca next door for all amenities and a golf cart of your own or a shuttle, if you prefer, to take you there and bring you back. In other words, you can have your cake and eat it too.
This was a dream vacation, thanks to this stunning new addition to the tranquil island of Anguilla.
We shall return next year!

I preface this review this review by saying we have stayed at many lovely places in the caribbean - amanyara, cotton house, private villas, etc., and this was by far the far the best - and not just because of the beauty and peacefulness of our surroundings, but because of the beauty of the people of Sheriva. From the moment we arrived - to the moment we regretably departed we were treated with kindness and warmth. I cannot emphasize this point enough - the people at Sheriva made our vacation, they are some of the friendliest, nicest people we have ever met. More on this below.
The property itself is incredible - no expense has been spared. All high-end materials were used in the construction of the villas - hard woods, travertine, marble. The website photos do not do the property justice because they do not adequately convey the spaciousness of the inside and outside living areas (we stayed in the one bedroom). The view, with St. Martin in the distance, speaks for itself in the photos - gorgeous.
Many details aren't mentioned on the website - such as the fact that a chef (ours was the very sweet, always smiling Santiago) comes to your villa each morning to make a breakfast of many courses. Our breakfast was served most mornings by the lovely Viviana, whose smiling face and pleasant conversation I genuinely looked forward to each morning.
Someone checks on you to see if you need anything throughout the day. Your fridge is always stocked with water and soft drinks - and hors d'ouerves are dropped off each evening.
One of the brightest smiles on the property was Wendy's, who cheerfully tidied up our villa each day - we already miss seeing it.
Our concierge, J'son, couldn't have been more responsive and concerned with our needs, even if they were as (seemingly) trivial as finding a blender and a bottle of margarita mix (which, in an act of grand kindest, he delivered on his day off from his own personal stock). And, by the way, he's one of the nicest guys we've ever met.
Great thanks also goes out to Sheriton, the all round go-to guy for any maintenance issue, who actually INSTALLED an electical outlet by the jacuzzi for us so we could listen to our ipod there. We are talking incredible service here - and with a smile. always. These folks are great.
From the moment I first called Sheriva and spoke with and e-mailed Jeanine (Sheriva's manager) and Samantha (Assistant mananger), who were both incredible helpful and flexible with booking our stay, I knew this would be special place. Boy, was it.

We spent a week there on our honeymoon last August...we had booked a double room in one of the three villas but, once we got there, we found out that we had been upgraded to a whole floor of the villa!!! That came with a huge american-style kitchen, huge bedroom, extra-huge bathroom, walk-in wardrobe, sitting room and...a number of people (cook, waiters, etc.) ready to help us. last but not least, a private swimming pool!
What can we say about this place? It was a dream, a once in a lifetime experience...The staff was great, very friendly and professional.
The hotel is not on the beach, but very close to many lovely beaches.
On the downside, we must say that it was not clear what was and what wasn't included in the package we bought, so we were very careful not to have too many extras during our stay. We only made a couple of international calls and had an extra dinner cooked by our fantastic cook Santiago...On our departure date we asked for the bill, but they weren't able to give it to us, they said they'd let us know over the next few weeks.. But they never charged us! So, overall, a great stay. But if you go, try to miss August because most restaurants are closed and the locals seem to be a bit annoyed with tourists...probably it's because they've had enough foreigners around by that month, which marks the end of the season.

My wife and I stayed at the Anguilla Sheriva for a winter get-away. First, the Sheriva van that was suppose to meet us at the airport was not there. Our flight had arrived late and the driver did not wait for us. At check-in we were asked what had happened to us. We explained that our flight had arrived late and that we had to complete some custom forms before entering the country. Their response was, "Oh,our driver was looking for you but he never found you." We did not receive an apology nor were we offered any kind of compensation.
Then, we were escorted down a series of stairs to our one bedroom villa where we were offered chilled towels, rum punch and very small tray of canapes. This was a nice welcome but nothing we hadn't experienced at other 5 star properties. The refrigerator had been stocked with the items we had requested (via a form). Our villa included one bedroom, a large bathroom with a dressing room, another bath, kitchen, livingroom, and patio with a private pool. Every morning we were served breakfast on the patio by the staff. Of course, this was nice but again nothing that we hadn't experienced before. After our vacation ended we found out that is we wanted the pool heated we should of requested it and paid an additional fee. We haven't had to do this anywhere my wife and I have stayed.
Second, when my wife and I wanted to visit other hotels we would take the Sheriva Van which we found to be very inconvenient! Other guests that had rented larger villas had their own golf carts. When we wanted to be taken or picked up anywhere we would have to make a call and then WAIT for the van to arrive. Everywhere we went I tipped the driver generously. That got old very fast.
Third, we were told that we had signing rights at Cap Juluca if we wanted to eat or purchase anything there. However, when I tried to sign for dinner and when my wife tried to purchase an item in the gift store we were told that they had never recieved anything from Sheriva authorizing our signature and that we had to pay with cash or a credit card. We were VERY EMBARASSED on both occassions!
Fourth, one evening as my wife got dressed she saw a GIANT roach (the size of my hand) on the wall. She screamed and was extremely frieghtened. I killed it with my shoe and assured her there would be no other bugs to worry about. She didn't sleep the entire night. The next day we showed the roach remains to the management. They said that these kind of roaches were common in Anguilla and that they would have to get the villa sprayed. Again, no compensation. The very next day my wife, while bathing in the tub, found ants crawling on top of the tub and on her towel. By that time we had been so disenchanted we decided to point them out to the cleaning staff only and to forget showing them to the management.
In conclusion, our vacation was extremely disappointing. It surely was not a vacation of a lifetime!!!! We definitely would not recommend staying at the Sheriva. However, after visiting the Viceroy and Cap Julcia my wife and I would highly recommend either resort.

Overall, our 6 day stay was nice. The property is very private, quite beautiful and the staff very friendly. However, the amenities (namely the golf carts) were not available to all guests. We were told that only the "higher paying" guests had use of their own private golf cart. My husband and I were in a one bedroom Villa which, according to them, did not qualify us as a "higher paying" guest. Of course this made us feel like
second class citizens even though we had paid a good sum of money for the one bedroom Villa. In order for us to take advantage of the adjoining property (Cap Juluca) we had to walk or wait for their van to take us there. We found this extremely inconvenient! The other thing that was lacking was housekeeping. Overall, the Villa was quite clean but the staff rarely cleared off our headboard/nightstand. After a long day out & about we would come back to coasters, water glasses and pop cans left on the headboard/stand in our bedroom. In addition, all the dishes we dirtied throughout our stay were hand washed by a staff member in our kitchen. After wondering for some time why the dishes were hand washed, we finally came to the conclusion that the staff did not know how to use the Villa's dishwasher. In addition, the website mentioned a private chef - insinuating that every Villa had it's own chef. However, there is only one chef on the entire property that cooks for all the guests. Lastly, there was no oven in our Villa and the pool was not heated. I could not withstand the cold water temperature in the pool so I used the heated jacuzzi instead. Overall, the daily rates at Sheriva indicate that this is a high end property. However, not all guests are treated equally and if you want top notch service stay in a Villa that has at least 2 or more bedrooms.

Response from SHERIVAMGMT, General Manager at Sheriva Villa Hotel
Responded 11 Mar 2011
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences while at Sheriva. With all due respect, our management would like to respond to some of the statements made. With regards to golf carts, the tone hints at feeling discriminated against for not having a private golf cart. Due to the selected accommodation category, a 1-bedroom grand villa pool suite, a golf cart was not included. However, a convenient and complimentary beach shuttle service was included in the 1-bedroom package. On several occasions I personally witnessed a member of staff offer to drive you to Maundays Bay beach, but you replied that you preferred to walk due to the beautiful weather. We aplogize if there was any miscommunication. Our private villa guests have in fact been afforded the sole use of a golf cart, as they have rented an entire 7- or 8-bedroom villa versus a 1-bedroom suite. Our service is not discriminatory in any way, but rather akin to the comparison of coach and first class in a typical air carrier situation. The airline caters to all passengers, however, the first class passengers receive a more comprehensive service based on the fare paid. Such is the case at most hotels and private villas. This is in no way discriminatory. Secondly, we are perplexed that one would come to the conclusion that our housekeepers do not know how to use the dishwasher. Our housekeeping staff is efficient and quite adept in using all of the electronics and equipment at Sheriva. However, as we strive to be as environmentally conscious at possible, we prefer to have dishes hand-washed versus utilizing our dishwasher for 2 or 3 dishes. This saves both water and energy. On an island such as ours, we must conserve both of these luxuries wherever possible. The tightly covered bottled beverages were left untouched by housekeeping, as they felt it indicated potential future use. We apologize for coming to this conclusion prematurely. Thirdly, we do, in fact, have multiple chefs on the property and not just one chef that cooks for all the guests. Lastly, we have never advertised heated pools at Sheriva as a standard amenity. We are happy to heat pools for our guests upon request for an additional charge, as we have done many times in the past. If this was request was made, we would have been more than happy to oblige. We have had glowing reviews by many guests (from honeymooners to couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary) enjoy stellar service in our 1-bedroom pool suites. We currently have guests in-house in such suites and they are extremely pleased. We are truly sorry that you were not 100% satisfied while at our property, and are also disappointed that you opted not to voice your concerns to us in our Service Excellence Questionnaire prior to checking-out. Thank you once again for your comments and the opinion that our property is very private, quite beautiful and our staff, very friendly.

This is no ordinary place. When our friend recommended 3 Anguilla properties she thought we would like, we immediately picked Sheriva. It was our first time to the island and we wanted a very private property but also wanted to be spoiled a little. This was a dream come true. We stayed at Mystique and had an unforgettable experience. There are three things that make Sheriva memorable: 1) the service staff 2) the location 3) the suites
1) Service staff: Who wouldn't want to wake up every morning with the smell of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon coming under your bedroom door? And when you open that door, you are met by smiling faces. This is the right way to start every day. We took the continental breakfast option, but loved the full breakfast menu. Try the Sheriva version of hash browns which is sauteed onions, bacon, and potatos- very addictive! We had housekeepers who washed our clothing twice a week and they cleared our rooms every day. Daily our room looked just as it had when we checked in. If you leave a pile of shells (or clothing) strewn throughout the living room, they make a neat pile or fold for you without moving things about too much. Just wonderful!
We thought of nothing. The concierge team was amazing and arranged everything for us and made suggestions that were spot on. We took a boat excursion out to Prickly Pear, dined at many of the restaurants everyone raves about (and rightfully so) such as Veya, Mangos, Tasty's, Dolce Vita, Smokey's and Beach Shack. Whenever we called the office for assistance, we were greeted warmly and never felt we were a bother. Our children enjoyed playing in the game room which is in the office on the second floor. After enjoying the many breakfasts and evenings at the fabulous restaurants, we were grateful for the gym at Sheriva which is quite comprehensive for a small property. Be sure to hit the gym during your vacation. You will need it.
2) Location is everything. Sheriva is in West End which appears to be the second capital of the island. We were only five minutes from almost anything we wanted to do. This was convenient. The property itself is gated and has security and we felt very safe here. We had a very big golf cart that we used and went to the beach every day. It is only about 3 minutes away (always drive on the LEFT!) and I agree that Maundays Beach is the nicest one on the island. We went to Shoals Bay, Meads Bay, Sandy Ground and Prickly Pear. All were nice, but we thought "our" beach was the best. Because of proximity to Cap Juluca, Sheriva has a partnership with the hotel which allowed us to sign at restaurants, watersports and the shops there. We really liked Spice restaurant. The Moroccan theme is beautiful and sitting right at the water's edge with lights shining into the ocean was so remarkable and romantic.
3) Our suite was beyond large. We had a living room, kitchen, additional bathroom, our own private pool and a jacuzzi. Our bathrooms were so large, we could actually have used only the bathrooms as bedrooms. There was a separate area with toilet/bidet, a daybed, a dressing room, two showers, two sinks, AND a bathtub. The master closet ...well, that is no closet. There are many shelves, drawers, plus additional luggage closet where there is a safe and more shelving for extra pillows and linens. Finally, there is also a tiny closet for our laundry basket. I could twirl and dance in the master closet. Absolutely bigger is better and Sheriva masters this well.
I felt at home from the moment we checked in. The staff is very professional, friendly and genuinely happy to have you visit. We have no doubt that we will return to Sheriva to visit our new friends. Sheriva, we love you!

My wife and I stayed at Sheriva for our honeymoon June 22-29, and I simply cannot say enough nice things about our stay. Not only is the property gorgeous, but the staff is the most helpful, courteous, and professional group I could imagine. I remember on the way down, I was hoping that it would be as nice as the pictures, expecting to be let down. However, the reality was quite the opposite, as everything was gorgeous and impeccably decorated. We stayed in the Mystique villa, and originally we had booked a Pool Suite, but because they had availability and it was our honeymoon, we received a free upgrade to the upstairs.
This was ridiculous as it had not only the same bedroom, bathroom, and dressing room, but it had a much larger kitchen, pool deck with better views, a living room with a huge TV (though we hardly used it), and an office nook. There were also two other bedrooms we had access to, but there was no need to use them. The bathrooms in this place are HUGE! You get an infinity edge bathtub (the likes of which I've never seen before, but is very luxurious), a lounge chair, a dual shower, and dual sinks. The closet isn't so much a closet as it is a room with closets in it. You could pack for a month and not fill it. Actually, we could have moved there, put all our things away (including winter clothes), and still have had space (and we have a lot of stuff)! The bed is extremely comfortable, and we awoke each day feeling extremely relaxed and pampered.
On the package we purchased, it said "daily continental breakfast" expecting to get a few breakfast pastries, some cereal, juice, etc. The reality was again quite different as Santiago (the resort's private chef and incredible asset) would arrive in the villa around 7AM (I'm not sure of the exact time because I was usually asleep), and begin cutting fruit into elaborate designs. This would then be kept in the refrigerator until we awoke and desired breakfast. A fresh pot of coffee would be brewed for us, and we found the table out on the pool deck set for us (we requested to eat outdoors and the staff remembered every little request like this). All we had to do was sit down, and Santiago's fruit creation du jour, juice, coffee, toast, and english muffins would be brought to us. As if this wasn't enough already, after we finished, Santiago would prepare something bacon and/or sausage, and eggs or French Toast, or pancakes (of course elegantly presented as with everything Santiago did). We could hardly move after breakfast! In addition, we received the daily afternoon canapes in our fridge in the afternoon, which changed everyday and were always a treat.
For dinners, we had Santiago cook us three meals, and each time he went way above and beyond (example: we said we wanted lobster for our last night, so he finds us a 5.5lb lobster and fills the body cavity with Caribbean Crawfish - basically a langoustine).
Throughout our stay, the staff did everything they could to accomodate us. Prior to our stay, we filled out a form detailing our requests for items in the refrigerator. We didn't even have to think about anything, as our refrigerator remained very well stocked with everything. On our first night, we said we wanted Champagne, and it was in our fridge within an hour. We were able to arrange a massage in our villa, we received fantastic recommendations on dinner as well as places to avoid based on previous guests' experience, and activities at the Cap Juluca.
My wife and I had the best honeymoon we could have ever wanted. The value you get for this place is incredible! We visited the other high-end resorts on the island, and saw many of the famous villas, and we do not think we could have done better than Sheriva (even if we could spend 60K for a week, like for some of those villas!). Thank you Jeannine and staff for making our stay absolutely one of the best experiences of our life!

I am an avid Trip Advisor reader who travels often, but has never contributed. After the best vacation I have ever had, I feel compelled to share my fabulous experience at Sheriva. I have been to Anguilla before, but this was my first time at Sheriva. Every moment was pure bliss. I just got home yesterday and I miss Sheriva already!
Upon arrival at Sheriva, my husband and I were upgraded from a 1 bedroom grand villa pool suite to larger accommodations in Mystique Villa. There are no words to describe how awesomely beautiful and elegant the villa was. It was also incredibly spotlessly clean and in pristine condition. The view of St Martin is breathtaking.
We were welcomed with cold towels, canapés including cheese and crackers, chicken nuggets and rum punch. Every morning our continental breakfast was served with a smile. The staff is the warmest and most welcoming ANYWHERE. General Manager, Jeanine Connor-Gittens, is like the Director of a masterpiece, making sure that every moment is sheer perfection.
Every gloriously sunny morning we drove our Sheriva provided golf cart, which is so fun to drive, to Cap Juluca’s beach. Sheriva has a set up with chairs and umbrellas for their guests closest to the main building at Cap. There is no more stunning beach in the world. As a guest of Sheriva, we had signing privileges at Cap and were able to enjoy lunch at Blue and drinks on the beach without having to carry cash to the beach. Every moment of every day at Sheriva was stress-free and seamless.
In addition to being blessed with breathtaking surroundings, Anguilla is blessed with world-class restaurants and people who truly become like family. Some of the wonderful restaurants were Picante (Shauna is fabulous!), Veya (where we were lucky enough to listen to Omari Banks perform), and of course, Straw Hat. Straw Hat provides a top notch culinary experience with superb service (Armel is always a pleaure!) and its proprietor, Peter is so welcoming!
Sheriva is without a doubt the best accommodation in the best destination. I regret that there simply are not enough adjectives to describe how wonderful it truly is. I cannot wait to return.

We just got back from Anguilla after spending 7 nights at Sheriva. This was our third year in a row staying at this property and it just seems to get better and better. We stayed in villa Harmony on this trip and it was our second time in this particular villa. What makes the island and this particular property so appealing are the people. The entire staff are warm, friendly, and could not be more accomodating. The location is exactly where we want to be on island since most of our favorite restaurants are close by and you have beach chair access on the Cap Juluca (maundays bay) beach. Which in our opinion is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
There were 5 (4 adults and 1 child) of us on vacation. We have a tendency to like smaller hotels (100 rooms or under) or private villas and this place truly is magic.
For us Viceroy is a great place for a drink but not a place to stay. Each time we have gone there it seems to have some large conference or convention going on. As a lifelong Red Sox fan I counted 18 yankee's hats (most of them on backwards) when we stopped in for a sunset drink this year.
The Sheriva property is private yet it's not secluded. There is a small office, wifi works great throughout the entire villa(free), and it's one of the few places that I have stayed where you are not nickel and dimed. I hate when I stay somewhere and I am paying $500-1000 per night and then they charge me $20. per day for internet access or $5 for a bottle of water.
Likes:
For me (40 year old male) great beaches, pools, restaurants and people
My wife (40 yr old) loves the cleanliness of the villa and the care the staff take with the entire property. She also loves the fact that we don't have to pack as much for the trip because the villa staff will do your laundry while you are there.
My son (age 7) loves the pool, hottub, the golf cart and game room.....plus his "friends"
My In-laws who were with us like all of the above
Dislikes:
For most of the better restaurants reservations need to be made before you arrive
Restaurants we went to for dinner
Da'vida: very good
Piccante: very good and reasonable. First time their
Blanchards: food was very good but we felt like they were rushing to flip the tables
Veya: very good...live music most nights
Sandbar: we really enjoyed it and one of the most beautiful sunsets we have seen
Jacala: our favorite
For lunch: we went to Jacala, Straw Hat (twice), Da'vida (on Sunday Omari Banks plays from 1-5), Scilly Cay (open on Wednesday and Sunday) and Ocean Echo (brand new about 2 months old and very good)
A final note:
When we were flying home a few days ago my wife said to me, "do you know that this is the first vacation we have ever taken where the tv was never turned on." That is what Anguilla and Sheriva provide for a family if you let it

We visited Anguilla during late December. We adore this island and the friendly people here. We have stayed at two of the signature 5-star hotels previously, but this time, we rented an 8-bedroom villa at Sheriva Villas. We traveled with our entire family and this suited us perfectly! My husband and I took the ground floor pool suite, which has 3 bedrooms in all. Our three kids loved being “independent” as they had two connecting rooms a little bit away from our master suite, right next to the entertainment room. The pool on the ground level is also bigger and shallower for kids. My parents took the main floor master suite, my brother and his fiancée took the Loft Suite and my sister and her husband opted for the garden master suite, which is on the ground floor with our suite. My 17-year old niece took the other suite on the main floor, and her 14-year old brother took the twin bedroom right next door (of course, closest to the office area with the computer). All in all, we were a perfect fit and we each had space and privacy. The master suites are HUGE and very homey. They thought of everything from luggage racks, to ceiling fans for days when we didn’t want to use the AC, Wifi, kitchenettes…it was just great. We’d recently stayed on St. John at a villa, but nothing could compare to our Sheriva villa.
We enjoyed the breakfasts every morning which was great while sunning on our pool deck. The staff made us feel right at home. We initially told them we’d want breakfast every morning at 10 a.m., but the kids woke up earlier than at home and the staff easily switched our breakfast service to 9 a.m. From about 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. we would hang out at the beach (Sheriva isn't beachfront, but it is not a big deal. It’s a blast to take the large golf cart down to Maundays Beach. We requested an extra one and it was available, so we had two golf carts.) There were reserved beach chairs, towels, a water cooler and umbrellas set up for us every day and the kids just loved playing in the sand and the crystal clear water. We ate lunch at Spice and Blue at Cap Juluca a few times, where we had signing privileges. Was very convenient as we were already on the beach.
A few of us went to the gym every morning and it was pretty comprehensive. I loved the total body machine, yoga mats, and multiple cardio machines. There is also a game lounge upstairs in the main office. This was my kids’ favorite place. I don’t know how the ladies in the office worked that week, because the kids were constantly goofing around with them and they just smiled through it all. They were so warm and friendly. Both Jeannine and Latoya, the managers, are former teachers and it shows. This really is the Sheriva difference. Just as other people said, the staff is simply awesome!
We loved our housekeepers and the ladies who set up our breakfasts. One evening, we didn’t plan to take the kids with us out to dinner and Simone was just about to leave. We asked her if we could get something for the kids somewhere nearby. She told us not to worry, she would take care of them. She managed to whip up home-made French fries and chicken nuggets in about 20 minutes, much to the kids’ (and our) delight!
Speaking of food, we took a different approach to dining on Anguilla this trip. We made sure to try all the places we wanted to try previously, but didn’t. We highly recommend the following: Dolce Vita, Sandbar, E’s Oven, Jacala (hard to get into for dinner, but go for lunch!) and the new Italia restaurant at the golf course (formerly Zurra). All of these restaurants were impressive, especially the unique tapas at Sandbar. It's on Sandy Ground beach and you can stroll down to Elvis' beach bar for an after-dinner drink. We also went to Sandy Island and had a lovely day on our “private island”. Try the lobster and the ribs on Sandy. The absolute best there is!
For activities: Junior’s Glass bottom Boat, Pelican Trail Watersports and Leroy’s (he comes to Cap Juluca and gives you personalized water sports. We all loved Leroy.) The most memorable things about Sheriva are the privacy, the grand size of the rooms, the beauty of actual villa and grounds, the feeling of being in a home away from home and last, but not least, the amazing staff. We consider ourselves a bit difficult to please, but we were truly spoiled at Sheriva. They bend over backwards to make you feel special...very much unlike St. Barts. (That's a whole different review....)
