A very private, one-on-one camp service with a great third-generation Tanzanian guide and a staff that loves getting to know you and teaching you Swahili phrases. Tom (the owner of Palahala Luxury Camp as well as guide of his business Tanzania by Firelight) is personable and gregarious - as well as knowledgable about the animals that pass you each day...

Palahala Camp is a secluded camp in Katavi National Park, Tanzania. While technically a camp, with tents and in proximity to the animals, it has the amenities that will insure the guest's comfort. Showers with hot water, flush toilets, a well-stocked bar and great food are just a few. As the sun goes down, the jungle surrounding the camp comes alive...

Tom and Belinda Lithgow are wonderful hosts! They see to your every need. Our family of four, including two grandparents and two grandsons ages 11 and 12 had a wonderful experience seeing lots of animals and beautiful scenery on our private safari with our terrific guide, Tom Lithgow. We visited the Plahala Luxury Camp (Tanzania by Firelight) in October 2014. What an incredible experience! This is a very private camp that is situated on the Kapapa River within the Katavi National Park. The accommodations were luxurious and very spacious with great beds and amenities. The service form all the staff was excellent and the food was "second to...

The pros: Staff friendly, helpful and efficient Location is attractive Food is excellent in quality and presentation Tents are huge The cons: Many small shortcomings in an around the tent, suggesting a lack of supervision,e.g. chewing gum on bed post, general cleanliness. Plentiful tsetse flies, all anxious to give you their own special welcome, but very few other animals.

This camp was truly a luxury camp. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were amazing. I will never be able to stay anywhere else after staying here. I could not have asked for a better place to accommodate my time in Tanzania. Thank you Tom for the gracious hospitality!

I could go on and on about the incredible experience and service that I had at my stay with Firelight Safaris. From the staff who were always there to help with any need to the delicious meals served, there was never an item that was overlooked. My group stayed on their Lupita Island where we enjoyed kayaking, swimming, and the...

Palahala is a gem - set away from other lodges in the already remote Katavi National Park. We had the place to ourselves, and were looked after so well, we felt right at home. Nothing was too much trouble, and every mealtime was carefully planned to give us a different feel. Tents perched over the river meant we fell asleep...

Another first class experience by Tanzania by Firelight! The Palahala Luxury Camp is "One of a Kind"!! The permanent tents are huge & elevated above the ground with wonderful views of jungle and a running river. We could see Hippo's and Crocs from our Bedroom! Authentic African furnishings, romantic beds, running water and the sound of monkeys and exotic birds...
