Rooms

Please see photo attached. We were based on the ground floor room. The room was very spacious with a comfortable bed and sitting area. Balcony was very spacious complete with a drying rack which was very helpful. Being on the ground floor you might worry about privacy but there was a nice barrier between the main area and our balcony so it was fine.

Food & drink

Excellent overall. The breakfast buffet was great quality with a wide range of choices. Pancakes, waffles, full English, fruit, cereals are some examples. Plenty of the usual sauces on offer. Range of fruit juices as well as coffee machines and waiter service coffee/tea.

Lunch was typically a choice of 3 meats and 3 fishes. These were all cooked fresh which was fun to see. Then usually a range of prepared Spanish dish on one side and a range of English dishes (usually chips/pizza/chicken). There was pasta - again prepared fresh and sometimes paella. At the back was a good choice of build your own salad, as well as interesting ones such as Caesar salad or Greek salad. There was about 4-5 choices and they changed daily.

For dinner/tea we always ate at the t restaurants. There is 4 in total - Oceania, Portofino, Bluewater and Gohan. The first 2 are ‘for a;’ and require trousers for men and a collared shirt. I would definitely recommend you must try the first two - top quality food with a good range of fish dishes and an excellent steak in the first, then a good choice of pasta dishes ands pizza. Definitely a better quality than the buffet so you do feel you are having a more luxurious experience. We did not try Gohan but did try Bluewater. It was good, I had an excellent burger, but not as high quality as the other two. I have attached some example photos of the food.

For all inclusive you have 1 choice of white, red or rose wine. You have 1 choice of Cava. You also have 1 choice of beer- all of which were quite good. Fairly wide selection of spirits and all your usual soft drinks. The cocktail menu can be seen beforehand on the Hyatt app. There was a good choice of many classics including daiquiri , mojito, s*x on the beach, tequila sunrise, old fashioned and pina colada. They were your usual all inclusive strength i.e very strong.

Inside Hotel

The hotel is very impressive from when you arrive. It’s in a very secluded area, you feel very private staying here. When you arrive, you are treated like royalty. A staff member took our bags off us and gave us a glass of cava whilst waiting to check in. The check in receptionist was very kind, and allowed us to start our all inclusive before the room was ready (as we had arrived early). The previous staff member took our bags directly to the room which was a nice touch.

The main reception area is also the evening piano lounge. It’s spacious with plenty of seating and quite spectacular to see. Off the side of the lounge is a coffee shop - included in the all inclusive- which offers hot/cold coffee, milkshakes, soft drinks and a range of sweet snacks (10:30-5:30 on certain days).

There was an evening show every night from 9:30 - 10:30. Dinner was served from 7-10, so most people would go to eat 7:30/8:30 for the show. It was generally very good and was a range of singers such as guitar bands, jazz bands and even a dance troupe. There was no music before or after and no dance floor, so a fairly quiet evening, with the bar being dead after 11 and shut at midnight.

Outside Hotel

The outside is really spectacular , It’s a beautiful space. There is a large central pool - I really mean massive - and two smaller pools a layer down. The main pool was very cold during our stay, probably because of its size, whilst the smaller were warmer and during a particularly hot day, felt like being in a jacuzzi! One of them had these awesome sun beds to lie down on it the pool too.

There was a lot of sun beds. When we stayed the capacity was around 30% so we never struggled even if we went down to the pool at 10:30… often we would be the only ones! During peak I still feel there is a good amount. Each sun bed has an umbrella and table. There is some softer seating outside the hotel higher up which was nice in the evening but also available in the day for people preferring shade.

There is only one bar outside - it’s located within Bluewater. They may serve food during the day, we never could quite figure it out as we never saw anyone eating there. Service is generally good, we never queued for a drink, and waiters do go around the pool areas so you don’t need to leave your bed! Truthfully though they did seem to want to avoid your eye so you would need to be quite forward to get them to serve you which could be a pain if you’re a bit more reserved.

The preferred club was on the lowest level down. We didn’t upgrade to this and was quite glad as it was the busiest area during our stay which seemed ironic. The swim up rooms did look rather cool though and they had a nice bar in the middle of the pool which did look fun to sit it. But really the main hotel is very good anyway for ‘normal guests’

Located down two paths to either side of the preferred club is access to the ‘beach’. It’s not a sandy beach, rather a rocky beach, but does offer beautiful views and photo opportunities. There is also a walk to the left which takes you into the marina of Porto Calreo, a lovely place to walk if not a little quiet. But then again, that’s what this hotel is offering, quietness and solitude.

Conclusion

Overall this hotel is an excellent choice for anyone who is looking for a peaceful stay in Lanzarote. It is a poor choice for anyone looking for a party stay or lots of activities as again, the hotel is very very quiet. It offers a luxurious experience from the food it offers to the service it provides. Special mention to Ronaldo behind the piano bar who was our favourite.

I would recommend to anyone who is interested in staying here to download the Hyatt app. You can find the drinks menu, restaurant menus, activities and evening entertainment all on there to make sure it’s right for you!

Consider the preferred club if you have the money spare but equally we didn’t and still had a fantastic time and felt it didnt really stop us doing what we wanted.

If you are scared of cats, avoid Lanzarote in general. The ones at the hotel were very friendly but did like to get close.

Our only minor few points for the secrets team would be;

1. Consider adding some more cocktails to your menu such as a pornstar martini- your staff were all too happy to make them, why not advertise them too?

2. There is a sign outside which says ‘Havana bar’ and the app suggests its open in the evening, but yet we could not find any bar outside (other then Gohan when its open) so had to go inside to the piano bar to get drinks, which would often kindly be brought outside for us, - so did we miss it or does it not exist anymore?

3. Please consider offering a selection of takeaway cups for the coffee shop so people can enjoy a larger drink i.e milkshake/frappe/large iced coffee outside. Nobody really wants to be drinking these inside when it’s lovely and warm but you can’t take them out. Maybe take inspiration from Starbucks cups!

But overall, a solid 10/10!

Dear JamescU3393ZC, Thank you very much for sharing such a detailed and comprehensive review of your stay. We are delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience at our hotel. It’s great to know that you enjoyed both the facilities and the food and service provided. We especially appreciate your comments about the privacy of the ground floor rooms, as well as your observations on the quality and variety of our buffets and restaurants. We are pleased that you appreciated the attention to detail in our culinary options and the quality of the beverages. Your suggestions are also very valuable to us. Regarding your ideas for expanding the cocktail menu and the availability of takeaway cups at the coffee shop, we will certainly consider these for future improvements. Concerning the "Havana bar," we will investigate to clarify this confusion and ensure that the information on our app is up-to-date and accurate. We are glad to know that you found the outdoor areas impressive and that you enjoyed the tranquility and privacy we offer. We also appreciate your special mention of Ronaldo at the piano bar, and we will make sure to pass along your kind words. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced and appreciate your constructive feedback. We are constantly working to improve and provide the best experience for our guests. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future. Thank you for recommending us and for choosing us for your stay in Lanzarote! Best regards, Alejandro Borges, Assitant Guest Experience Manager.

We can't fault the location, layout and the staff but be careful if you are a diabetic on insulin.

On arrival on Saturday 11th January I mentioned to the reception staff that I needed a working fridge in the room to keep my insulin in. In order to keep the fridge running we had to leave one of our key cards in the slot in order for the power to the fridge to be kept on. Unfortunately this is where the problem started as 2 days running the cleaning staff took the card out which made the fridge go off with my medication inside it.

My husband and I went to reception and reiterated the importance of the fridge staying on. The lady who dealt with us apologised and said she would speak to housekeeping to ensure this didn't happen again.

2 days went by without any problems but then on the Friday we returned to our room approx midday and again the card had been taken out again. As the cleaner was still in the vicinity my husband spoke to her directly. She didn't seem to know about the medication in the fridge so i can only assume there is a breakdown in communication somewhere.

The only other observation we made is during the day there is some construction going on in the block next to ours which was not mentioned between the time of booking and our arrival. It's not massively intrusive but it would have been nice to have been pre-warned.

Apart from that I couldn't fault the holiday. The grounds are well kept and the staff work hard to try and keep the guests happy.

Dear rachelpF5036WN, Your experience concerning the minibar is mystifying as they remain operational for 24 hours and are not dependent on the keycard during that time, inorder to protect against its removal. I regret that I myself at "Guest Experience" was not contacted as I view your need of paramount importantance and would have instigated a maintenance report. Furthermore, a measure for ensuring absolute safety for your medication would have been provided. My greatest apologies this occurence would not have been expected. Importantly, your generous words convey your overall enjoyment and satisfaction with your holiday and our hotel. A little tidying of features was being attended to but in no way more than that we regret you thought otherwise. It would be wonderful to welcome you once again to Secrets Lanzarote, please do relax with us and soak up some more special moments. My best wishes, Chloé Binham Guest Experience Manager

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights at the beginning of March and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We were met on arrival with drinks and taken to our room by one of the hotel staff after check in. Our room was one of the standard rate rooms and it was very spacious with a large bathroom, huge TV, information tablet and a terrace which faced the main pool.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and breakfast was the best I can remember having in any hotel. The choice was overwhelming! We ate in the Barefoot grill restaurant at lunch times which was nice and tried the Italian which again was nice.
We ate most nights and went for drinks in the local Puerto Calero which is a 5/10 minute walk away. There are some great bars and restaurants down there and I’m glad we had the option as we like to venture.
The pool area was very spacious and there are plenty of beds. The grounds and outside areas are all done to a very high standard, as are the interior areas of the hotel. There are daily activities in the pool such as yoga and aqua step and other activities throughout the day such as running and archery. We didn’t use the spa but used the gym almost every day which is basic but just what you need on holiday.
The resort is truly a step away from the everyday and you’re made to feel very relaxed and like you’ve come to a five star resort.
The only couple of things I would say; there is a sushi bar close to the pool which only opens in the evenings. We would have used it for lunch and didn’t feel it was right for a dinner location. Also, the main piano bar is great but so huge. I think there should be a smaller snug bar off the main reception as we would have used that a bit more also.
I’m so glad we booked to stay here and it really did live up to expectations. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Lanzarote.

I’m actually at the hotel now but have brought my flight forward as I’m so disappointed. I booked a preferred club room with all inclusive where I was promoised a custom check in and check out, a club lounge with snacks and pre-dinner drinks. When I arrived I queued for 40 minutes to check in. When I asked why I couldn’t check in at the club lounge I was told it was closed “due to covid”. Nothing on the hotel website and no attempt to provide an alternative.

Although the hotel has several restaurants, only 2 al a carte restaurants are open per day along with the buffet restaurant. These restaurants serve at best 3 or 4 options for main course so limited choice. The main piano bar and outside bar don’t open until 6.30pm. The buffet restaurant we went to on the first night was serving trays of mass produced lasagne or a pork casserole full of bones and gristle.

The resort offers a club pool for preferred members but it is accessible and used by anyone as no one checks. There is no pool service, you have to queue for drinks from a hatch that opens at 10.30am. This morning I am writing this at 9.30am, sat on a sun lounger in the stairwell of the hotel because they decided 9.30am was the best time to cut the grass where many of the preferred club loungers are. The loungers, along with towels and belongings had been moved into the side flower beds while people were at breakfast.

The grounds, although pleasant looking are not cleaned. Towels from the previous day along with empty glasses and bottles are littered around the resort each morning.

Although I booked all inclusive, I have eaten in the small harbour nearby every night rather than eat the limited slip they serve here. Covid seems to be the convenient excuse for most things but it’s essentially cost cutting and extremely poor management. I would recommend anyone who has booked here should take advantage of the world opening up and go somewhere else. You are paying luxury prices for an offering that is far, far from it.

This is was our fourth visit in 10 years to this beautiful hotel, in this unique location. We stayed over the Christmas period. The former Hesperia Hotel now has new owners and is called Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa. There is a mix of new & existing staff, all staff are extremely polite, attentive and helpful. They all greet you with a cheerful Hola! The main lobby & reception area is both relaxing & welcoming with guests being received on arrival, with a refreshing damp towel and a glass of Cava or Orange Juice.
The general surroundings of the Hotel are beautiful, the gardens are well tended with attractive trees & shrubs. The new parasols whilst complimenting the environment are not durable & were already showing signs of disintegration.
The Hotel has had a much-needed upgrade, some minor work is still in progress, this is discreet, and guests are unaware of it, as it is on the periphery of the site.
Our room was clean & comfortable, although the housekeeping was good. it does need to be more structured & consistent.
The restaurant is a clean and pleasant environment; although the outside seating area is limited and a little crowded. There was a wide choice of food available and the staff are only too happy to please.
One small note, we were surprised to find that there was a small dog barking in the next-door bedroom to ours, which was situated on the 5th floor! It seemed a little strange that a hotel that markets itself as a romantic couples’ hideaway, should have little dogs as their fellow guests? The dog was mentioned to reception and matters were put in hand to locate it elsewhere whilst its owner attended meals, to alleviate the barking.
All in all, the new owners have now resolved all the shortcomings that guests would have noticed about the ‘old Hesperia’, which had looked tired for some years, due to a lack of investment. If ‘Secrets’ can maintain the new standards and further enhance them, we would have no hesitation in saying that this is Hotel is now one of the very best.
We hope to return soon.
Good luck for the future!

I went here here for my 2nd year anniversary.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by an extremely friendly reception and concierge guy called Italo who was very quick to accomodate us, make us feel welcome and put our luggage away effectiently and kindly.

Once in the room we were astonished at how clean, spacious and modern our room was. We were really impressed with our swimming pool and sea view from the balcony.

The dinner that evening was absolutely gorgeous. We had a steak and potatoes from canaries , which by the way were some of the best potatoes and I've ever had!

All of the restaurants had good quality food, Oceana salma was delicious, and the Italian restaurant Portofino had an amazing Risotto Dish! I also got to visit coco Cafe in which I was greeted by a lovely lady, who made me a delicious coffee and typically spanish sandwich!

The unlimited cocktails which were included in our all inclusive to my suprise were of qood quality, I expected to them to be cheap and watered down but not at all, they were just as good as the ones I drank in Puerto Calero! I recommend the PIna Coladas and the guy serving them and picking up orders was absolutely fantastic!

I loved the fact that it was very serene and peaceful by the pool, no one really makes noise and everyone is pleasantly relaxed and will casually talk to you and you naturally make friends with people whilst at the hotel anyway. You mostly get a sunbed before 11 am and towel.

The pool is quite big and not freezing temp which helps, I also loved the food at the pool bar which is served where they serve the cockails during the day. You can get a gorgeous ceasar salad or if you want to be naughty, some croquettes, nachos and some super tasty chunky chips!!

We had an amazing massage at the spa which was a couple's side by side massage which we really enjoyed by the girls, and we also paid for a day at the steam, sauna , pool and spa in addition which was super relaxing especially if you're travelling as a couple!

I thought the staff were absolutely terrific, no one served us reluctantly or unhappy (as you find normally in parts of London) and you always get a smile, a welcoming greet at the door (by Juliana and her colleague Luis).

The entertainment was very good, we had a singer, saxophonist, pianist and some dancers/circuits acts too. We found better entertainment at the hotel than elsehwhere! So we just stayed at the hotel for entertain every night instead.

The rooms are cleaned every day to a high standard, we didn't hear much noise at night after 10/11 pm. Drinks consumed in the mini bar were topped up every day, without hestitation and we even got a little nice suprise from the room service team with a cava and cake to celebrate our engagement!

Well, what can I say, I will definitely recommend and I'll be definitely be coming back!!! it made my engagement and 2nd year anniversary celebrations an absolute dream and unforgettable experience. Muchas gracias por todo, los veo pronto!

We stayed at Secrets Lanzarote as part of our honeymoon in August 2021. On arrival, we were greeted with a glass of bubbly, a smiley face and a wonderful welcome. The hotel looked bright, airy and there were lots of signs regarding the use of face coverings and there are hand sanitising stations around the resort.

Our room was an ocean facing room and the views were fantastic from our balcony. The bed was huge and the room overall was of an outstanding standard.

One of the real highlights of the hotel is the staff, they go above and beyond with providing anything that you need. In particular I would like to thank barman Alvaro who not only makes the best mojitos in Lanzarote, he also has an extremely friendly, fun and welcoming demeanour and nothing is too much trouble, a real asset to the hotel. We couldn’t wait to see him every day.

Now a few things that weren’t as expected…

Before visiting, we researched the resort thoroughly, reading lots of descriptions and seeing multiple photos. We were disappointed on arrival when we noticed that the majority of the photos and advertising is of the ‘preferred club’ section which is a significant additional charge and doesn’t feel like part of the hotel.

We weren’t informed before visiting the hotel that all the restaurants would not be open. We totally understand that there are covid protocols and thoroughly appreciate the efforts that secrets have gone to to make everybody safe. It is however disappointing that there are 2/3 restaurants available for evening meals that have very limited options apart from the buffet. Despite this I must say that the food quality is exceptional!

The entertainment was also a little disappointing… Again we fully appreciate that covid causes issues with entertainment however the advertising did not suggest that this would be limited to a singer for an hour or 2 every night and that is it. Which is very different to what the videos on the Secrets Lanzarote website suggests.

Despite these issues we had the most amazing time and will be recommending the resort to our family and friends. Especially that amazing staff!

Very impressed with this hotel. We stayed for a week at the end of January. Not our first visit to the island but the first time in Puerto Calero. Check in was fast and efficient and it was nice to greeted with a cold glass of cava on arrival. The hotel has a fresh airy spacious feel about it. Our deluxe room was spotless and very comfortable. One comment is that the double bed was actually two beds pushed together with separate bedding. We had booked a double room, but we didn't query it as all the photos on the website seemed to show the same combination but its strange in an Adults Only hotel not to have double beds.
We were booked in half board and ate in the buffet all except 1 night. The food was fresh, well presented and with a wide choice. I am gluten free and food was clearly labelled with allergens. We ate in the Portofino restaurant on one night and although service was a little haphazard the food was very good.
We didn't feel as though we missed out being half board but there were some things that you expect to have that we were charged for - annoying to be charged 3 euros for a small bottle of water with dinner and to be told that coffee pods in the rooms are chargeable. What is the point of providing a coffee machine in the room and then charge you to use it?
All that said, its a very nice hotel and I would definitely visit again.

Dear thatanngirlie, We are so glad that you loved our hotel Secrets Lanzarote and noticeably that you will definitely visit us again. It is pleasing to read that you thoroughly enjoyed our Buffet Menus and that our provision for gluten-free met your taste and satisfaction. We do attach a great deal of importance to the culinary needs of guests with food intolerances. Our "Unlimited Experience" is worth trying on your next visit as it undoubtedly represents good value for money although there is no additional charge for coffee pods. We do have a number of rooms per room type with kingsize beds and others with two queen size beds together, we always do our utmost to meet any requests availability permitting. Don't hesitate to contact us at guestexperience.seclz@secretsresorts.com ahead of your visit, we love to research some special trips for our guests or to attend any requests you may have. Appreciative thanks, Chloé Binham Guest Experience Manager

We stayed here a week 3-10th Oct 2021 on an all inclusive basis with sea view room. Before booking here, I’d heavily contemplated whether the preferred club package would be worth it or not, and I can advise I am very glad we did not opt for this.

Firstly the good. The hotel itself is very clean, well finished & well maintained. The bedrooms were very comfortable & we slept very well here. The pools are lovely & the location is great. A short walk to the marina of Puerto Calero which we did daily.

The spa is lovely, we visited a few days & it was very relaxing. And a nice break from the sun. This is an extra cost on top of your booking. €40 each per day or they had an offer for €68 each for the full stay

The gym is a good size with all the usual facilities. We used this a few times during our stay (no extra charge to use).

We were disappointed with the restaurants. Only selected a la carte restaurants are open daily, and the menu on these is very limited. On top of that there are big queues to get in every night. I don’t know why the hotel doesn’t run a restaurant booking service like other all inclusive restaurants we’ve stayed at. I felt this would be a simple addition & would benefit both the hotel & their visitors

Breakfast & lunch were served in the ‘world cafe’ which had plenty of options but did feel more like a canteen. The food itself though was very fresh & some dishes were tasty. It just didn’t feel very relaxing to eat in this environment. As a result of being disappointed with the hotel restaurants, we opted to eat at the restaurants down in Puerto Calero. There are plenty of options here & if you are contemplating upgrading between “preferred club” or “all inclusive”, I would recommend using the money you’d save not going for preferred club & enjoy eating out. We still felt we got our money’s worth on drinks, breakfast & lunch at Secrets

One big bug bear from the trip was the sun Loungers… people must’ve been getting up to reserve them from 7am. By the time we were ready for a few hours in the sun, we struggled to get one. I really think the hotel would benefit from a “no towel reservation” policy on the sun loungers.

Dear Foodie Fran, We enjoyed reading your thoughtful and detailed commentary. You noticed the absolute quality of our Hotel and its facilities, we are delighted. Our food is "fresh" as you say and aiming to satisfy a diverse range of guest tastes we provide dishes to tempt all. We happily note that you felt received "your money's worth" our all inclusive rate is most generous in its provision. If a future guest is seeking "more indulgence" then our "Preferred Club" members enjoy the exclusivity of their own oceanside pool and bar plus of course other luxuries and additional facilities. There is value in both options. Our solarium is perfect for tranquil relaxation with its many sun loungers and the pool attendants will provide extra loungers. We do ask guests to respect others and vacate their lounger when not in use. Do think of us and return for many more Spa memories and relaxation. Very best wishes from the "Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa" team. Chloé Binham Guest Experience Manager

We are leaving here today after a week. We were all inclusive/unlimited package.

Food; I have no idea why the last reviewer describes the buffet as 'the usual bun fight' this was not our experience of our other guests. The food is excellent and I must have ate a hen house worth of scrambled egg this week as it was cooked exactly to my liking. Soft and creamy. Lunch and dinner were equally fantastic with lots of variety.

Staff: the staff are faultless and nothing is too much trouble. If you have a problem with facilities, just ask and they will help. Very professional people from start to finish. I hope you are all here next year if we can come back.

Accommodation: we were on the ground floor with a pool view and our own outside seating area. The changes made to the bathrooms
Ie big walk-in shower was a joy to use. Perfect temp with lots of power. I took my own shampoo and conditioner but I ended up using the hotel's because I thought the products were good quality. Hairdryers are provided and they are of excellent quality, the tv is massive and you can access BBC, ITV and the news channels. This is a vast improvement on the TVs from last year.

Drinks: all inclusive includes Cava, Gordon's gin, vodka, beer, whiskey etc and a range of cocktails. We were well served at the piano bar anytime we went there.

Only disappointment is the lower pool area (usually the first photo on websites) is now restricted to preferred club and/or those booking the new swim up rooms.

We will be back next year to get some more winter sun.
