Location is superb. It is about 10 minutes walking distance to Tekek jetty, 5 minutes waling distance to Tekek Village/Rural Clinic and also the police station. There are many eateries nearby, so there is no problem when it comes to food. Price is a bit on the high side though, as compared to mainland. There is also a groceries shop and a duty free shop within walking distance. Location is superb. The chalets are all facing the sea. You can sit at the balcony and enjoy your coffee with wind blowing in your face. Bliss! All chalets have air-conditioners and hot shower, which are all working fine. No tv in the rooms though. If you cannot live without tv, then you can watch it at the resort's own restaurant. During our stay we requested their in-house chef to prepare fried rice, noodle, pizza, sandwiches for us. Price is average, considering the convenience of not having to venture out for food, and also not having to share the place with non-guests. Location is superb. You have your own 'private' beach. The beach is pristine and the staff cleans the beach (from leaves, debris and rubbish) and surrounding area everyday. You can snorkel right here, no need to go far. There are nice corals which are just about 400m from the beach during high tide. Stingrays, black-tip sharks, groupers and other marine life are abundant here. Location is superb. For diving enthusiast, this resort is the base for East Divers Tioman. The instructors are professional, very friendly and know their stuff well. We went diving at Pulau Renggis which is about 10 minutes travel by speedboat. You have to experience this yourself as words cannot do justice. We enjoyed our stay here very much. Highly recommended!

The food available is good. staffs and owner are very nice. one of us doing the diving course there. love the fried rice which we eat almost everyday :D. A heavenly place to stay for all the backpackers and the view from the rooms is very spectacular. The rooms are very clean and the beds are very comfortable. The friendly nature of the staff makes you feel as if you are staying in your own home. If you are a scuba diver then you definitely must stay in here

We were staying at Sofia By The Sea for 3D2N.. We booked front beach chalet and it only cost us rm130 per nite with ac.. View was spectacular from our room.. and food at the sofia by the sea cafe was awesome!! We chose to stay in kg tekek because anywhere else were fully booked and friends of mine actually recommend us to dive at the east divers.. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.. And worth every cent.. Will definitely be going here again by end of july.. and bringing a new group for OW course..

10 minutes walk from jetty, beachfront room was amazing, few meters out from the shore and you'll see beautiful coral and fishes. didn't manage to tryout their food but definitely will be back there again. Zai was really helpful and pleasant.. bit of mosquito issue but Zai helped out very well. paid only RM130.00 and enjoyed the sunset and the beach. all in all if you wanna chilled budget outing this is a good place.

I went with my partner for scuba diving with east divers and we stayed for 2 nights @ sofia by the sea.. We were greated by the friendly owner and staff Zai and Nadia. The dive shop is located at the chalet.. It was very convenient.. The room is clean with a/c and located so close to the water. The boat to take us diving is so close to the chalet.. Our divemaster Sufian and dive instructor Wafa who took us for diving was very helpful as well. We bought mosquito repellent and aerosol spray to kill all mosquitoes in our room. Food at the sofia by the beach cafe was good, the meal size is quite large for asian. This is a nice place for quite getaway.. If you're looking for a place to chill during late night there is a place just next to this place called Cabana.. They have live band performing on Friday & Saturday.. Btw, bike and motorcycle rental in tioman is quite expensive anyway..

I visited Tekek village for my dive course in Mar 2016, and one of the divemaster in training was this guy called Kay. I didn't take much notice but kept hearing the name "Kay". Everyone kept asking.. are you going to Kay's for dinner? Got me curious, and i finally asked so where's Kays? Its actually located at Sofia by the Sea and Kay is the head chef / owner of the restaurant there. My expectation of food is really high :) and let me tell you, the beef rendang there is to die for. He is a humble guy who has travelled the world and made Tekek his stop for his divemaster training and also run his little food place. If you ever stop by, please visit Kay. Everything on the menu is good and of reasonable price.

My wife & I recently visited Tioman Island. Prior to the visit we were unsure where to stay. We tried finding out about a few places with no luck. Then we found Sofia by the sea (East Coast Divers). They were fantastic in the assistance supplied. The accommodation is basic but the location is FANTASTIC. We stayed in a cabin with a/c right on the beach. At high time 8 paces & you're in the water. The staff are so friendly and nothing is to much trouble. My only regret is that we couldn't stay for longer. If you want a relaxing holiday and also want to dive, then this is THE place to stay.

Location = 4* Within walking distance from the Ferry jetty (10mins walk) & directly in front of the beach with the Marina just a few doors away View = 6* Beachfront chalets with Gorgeous view of the sea, sand, sunrise and sunset! Facilities = 2* 1* for the dive shop 1* for the restaurant Not sure if there's WIFI available. The one single TV is at the restaurant with local channels only. Frankly i'll definitely add another 2* if they have some hammocks or beach chairs by the beach for guests. (P/s. we got scolded RUDELY by the neighbor Coral Reef chalet staff for "borrowing" their hammocks to take some pictures even though there's NO ONE using ANY of it at that time :( Room Conditions = 3* Basically clean. Chalets very basic with wooden bedframe and thin mattress, Toilet door lock broken, WC cistern unhinged with every flush. Good thing is that even though we took the fan chalet only, it's quite comfy even in the afternoon when we took naps inside because it's just too hot outside. Only towel & soap provided. Staff hospitality = 5* Friendly & helpful caretakers who tried their best to ensure our stay is enjoyable. We forgot to ask for the mosquito coil on our 2nd night and they elderly caretakers retired early but luckily there's this young guy who mans the night shift offered his own coils for us! Very considerate as we doubt we'll be able to sleep a wink without it. Price = 5* Fan Chalet for around RM70/night Air-cond Chalet for around RM130/night (all of the above based on twin sharing basis with ensuite bathroom) Price subject for confirmation during booking. Overall, the view is the best, the price is okay as the other beachfront chalets are almost same price and the chalets needs uplift internally. Basically we did enjoyed our short stay there.

This is the fourth time I have visited this place. Check in was faultless, we were met at the jetty and our bags were transported the 5 minute walk to reception. Our room although was basic had in my opinion the best view off all the accommodation. If you are looking for standard deluxe with hotel ranking facility room with TV and a tub, this is not the place. However if you are looking for a quiet, budget – value for money and a great place for a No News-No Shoes Break, Sofia by the Sea or formerly known as Sri Tioman is the perfect getaway. The place is cozy with enough space for a queen size bed, a closet, a dressing table, mosquito net over the bed, and spacious toilet with water heater and air-conditioned. Wifi available at the cafeteria area. Café is part of the chalet facility for guest and public – offers variety food from local and western. Trust me the food is delish. The place has an excellent chef – Kak Ani. It has a dive center next to it, East Divers Tioman – offers great value for money packages. Beach BBQ was excellent, with a good selection of fish and meats. Staff were all super helpful and accommodating. Locals’ minimart and other duty free stores are about 5 to 10 mins walking distance. It has ‘lepaking’ area next to the chalets – Cabana Tioman. A great place to make new friends and chill out. Hence the only thing to do in Tioman is EAT, SLEEP & DIVE…. All in all a very enjoyable stay. “Sofia by the Sea, at Tekek, formerly known as Sri Tioman Beach Resort. It offers 22 wooden chalets for accommodation, with various sizes between two and six pax each. East Divers Tioman is the hotel's dive center, offering scuba diving courses, certification and sea trips for casual visitors and seasoned divers. It has a full range of facilities and section for this purpose. A breezy restaurant with a nice view of the sea serves local cuisine, while the beach is a quiet spot for relaxation with small chairs and tables for recreation. The hotel does a complimentary pick-up for guests staying at the resort from the jetty using a van. http://tioman.org/sofia-by-the-sea.htm.”
