A delightful small hotel in a good location with sea views. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant served only taster menus which were interesting and expensive. It was surprising that they did not offer a more traditional menu at a fairer price, but maybe this is not needed as the restaurant was fully booked on the night we were there. I get the impression that this establishment was more a restaurant with a few rooms, rather than a hotel. Breakfast was good.
This hotel has the most beautiful view of the sea! With a large outdoor balcony with chairs to sunbathe and relax on. The bed was large and comfy. But I think the hotel relies on the great view and doesn't care about renewing old furniture. Without the view, it would be a very average hotel room.
We had one of the worst experiences ever whilst visiting the hotel. We arrived at the hotel at 4pm to be told at the reception that our room still had to be cleaned. We were told that this would only take 10 minutes. Covid 19 does not seem to have reached the hotel if management believes that 10 min is sufficient to get a room clean and safe for the next guests. The lady at the reception was friendly but stressed out as she apparently had been tasked not only with welcoming new guests but also with the cleaning of the rooms at the same time. The room had a wonderful view but was old, the furniture had seen better days, the bed lining was teared, the carpet was stained and taking a shower would wet the entire bathroom. The worst thing was that the hotel appeared to be locked at 21h30 when we returned from dinner. We called the hotel but nobody picked up the phone. In stead we got a message saying that all lines were busy and that we could leave a message. This is what we did but with no avail. We finally managed to get into the hotel because we found a backdoor that had been left open. We managed to get through the mess left in the backrooms to the kitchen and to get to our room. The next day the lady who welcomed us at the reception apologized and acknowledged that she forgot to tell us because she had been left on her own to deal with reception and cleaning. When we complained with the hotel later on we received a rude email from the hotel manager saying that he personally met us when we arrived at the hotel and that he provided us with explanations and a code that would allow us to get into the hotel when the reception was closed. This was obviously a straight lie which does give you an idea of the way this hotel is managed and how you will be treated.…
We needed cheering up as the weather had been dire,so we had lunch at the hotel. A magnificent panoramic view from the dining room. The table appointment was perfect, nothing left out.We chose an 86 euro menu which included an amusebouche,a crab or langoustine or sardine starter, beautifully cooked fish of the day as a main, followed by Fromage Blanc and tartine of framboise, washed down by a reasonably priced Petit Chablis. The service was exemplary.Take no notice of any carping review, You won’t be disappointed!
'What a view' was our first reaction when we openen our curtains. Incredible!! The staff was sooo nice to us. Super friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and big with good beds and a nice terrace. The breakfast was great too. Everyone that works there are great people with the same mindset: making the guests happy! And That's what they did. I don't understand any of the negative comments. I think that people are spoiled and unhappy human beings... We wish all the staff members a great future for this amazing place. Keep doing what you do. We will definitely return here! And maybe even live here in the future!! Ps. If the owner read this: I was serious about that house at the water! Please contact me whenever haha. ☺️
The hotel is beautifully situated with stunning views over the water in a very quiet town. So quiet, in fact, that your other food choices are extremely limited (a decent crepe place and a few so-so restaurants on the beach). The hotel itself: some rooms face the ocean and have a lovely terrace. Rooms themselves are comfortable though the bathrooms could use updating-- not Relais & Chateau level. Wifi is iffy. Breakfasts are a disappointment. 2* hotels typically provide a wonderful spread that includes, but isn't limited to things like fresh squeezed juices, excellent breads & croissants, other breakfast pastries in addition to cheeses, meats, and house specialties. While some cheese & meat was provided, there was no fresh juice at all and just a bit of fruit salad. Croissants were mediocre, and though crepes were a nice addition, the offerings were underwhelming. Odd given that it's a 2* restaurant. Moreover, the restaurant itself was a disappointment. Not terrible, but not great. Certainly not not 2* quality by a long shot. Service ditto, rather perfunctory. It didn't seem as if anyone was genuinely invested in pleasing the guests. We had a far far better experience at Anne de Bretagne (also 2*) on the South Coast. Given the prices, we wish we had stayed there longer instead.…
Quite disappointed for Michelin 2 stars restaurant. We took lunch menu as it suits us. There are 5 set menus, three of them having a dish of cheese and a dish contain one type of meat that we don’t like so we decided to pick the forth one and almost the cheapest one, why not. Amouse bouche was ordinary with almost no flavor. Starter was very good with worked on it. Main dish was miserable for me as far as the quantity presented as 2 stars Michelin. I don’t know what it will come out but believe it will be just a type of lamb and might cut into slides to be able to eat easier beautifully. After I was not so happy of what difficulty I had and having less appetite to eat then stop eating totally. My sister in law told me that this is the way it is for the type of meat. It’s not a problem as meat was tender and good but the point is not there as a Michelin 2 stars serving a big lamb shank on the plate like I will have in a normal restaurant, difficult to take skin out, cutting meat which is not easy and bone might slip to the table or the plate of other if I don’t use one hand to hold. I didn’t feel comfortable at all to do this kind of thing in a 2 stars Michilin restaurant. It spoiled my appetite which I expect 2 stars restaurant should manage or propose another dish which is easier for customers to eat and nicier for the look from the plate. Staff came and asked how we like and I tried to explain. She didn’t even wait for me to explain for long but cut the conversation asking if I want to change to something else. I didn’t mean to explain for having something else. After I refused to on this proposal, she just left. It was a kind of rude that I have never seen even in a normal good restaurant. 2 stars from Michelin came from what kind of category? The best rude of staff? The best to be able to let customers feeling awkward? The best of having staff like robot and fast move? The best of fast speaking and doesn’t care if customers understand of what they are talking about? I promise myself not to go to any kind of Michelin star restaurant anymore. Normal good one in good Hotel or even not are much better food, more attentive so why I bother to spend more money in such a bad service. …
This is probably the best place in town. Rooms on 2th floor have terraces with fantastic view over the bay. The two star rated Patrick Jeffroy restaurant is of course excellent but the difference with one star or less rated restaurants is not obvious. The presse de tourteau, one of their specialities, is fine, as is the lobster, but for this you do not need a two star restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Free parking. Wifi did not work in our room, although Patrick Jeffroy came himself to our room in an effort to make it work, which was highly appreciated. Obviously we were not the first with this "problem". Overall this place can be highly recommended.
The hotel is located on a cliff top, 5 minutes walk from the beach or the village centre. The downsides are poor wifi reception in the bedroom - we were in - and service is on the slow side. However, the two michelin starred food is nearly the standard of 3 michelin stars and the prices are nearer that of a one michelin starred establishment. We stayed two nights and went for various seafood. The marinated sardine arranged in a terrine was out of this world with picked cabbage and pimentos in the terrine. The turbot was also fantastic with cuts from various parts of the fish. This place has now gone to the top of my foodie list.
After a 1200 mile dash across europe we booked at short notice an alternative hotel which unfortunately had a problem with their system. This meant the our room was unavailable. Hotel de Carantec stepped up and i believe as a favour to the original hotel, honoured the booking. The reception staff and manager were truly gracious and wonderful as were the rooms which i could find absolutely no fault with. Beautiful views of the bay, a two star michelin restaurant below and within easy reach of town and beach. Thank you again. John
