We hosted a gathering of 26 family members & friends ages 30-75 from the American Midwest in January 2025. Chose Barefoot Vacations Villa Cascada to commemorate milestone Birthdays for this once in a lifetime experience. From the moment we arrived with prearranged airport transfers to Villa to our departure we experienced Perfection! The Villa , common areas, pool & hot tubs are immaculately kept with beautiful views. Bedrooms (most with views) provide attention to detail, daily serviced with staff happy to deliver extra pillows or blankets (yes, temps are individually controlled by guests). Three delicious daily meals, afternoon snacks, bartenders to prep your fave adult beverages upon demand. Costa Rican band upon request..FUN! Don Bosco Sail & Beach BBQ...Unforgettable. We had the good fortune of staying at the Villa Ocotal for a family vacation in August of 2023. The Villa view is fantastic. One of the nicest features of the Villa is we were in a private setting. The food was wonderful. We had breakfast cooked to order in the morning along with excellent lunches and dinners highlighting the cuisines of Costa Rican and the United States. It is impossible to leave room for the bountiful afternoon snacks, but we did our best. Even the birds knew when snack time was. The staff worked hard to make sure even our most selective (picky) eaters had something they enjoyed. Each of the 8 bedrooms had individual bathroom, which I consider small, but were certainly adequate. There are several different room appointments for almost any family situation. Rooms were made up daily and laundry was often picked up, washed and returned the same day. The pool was great, well maintained, and we had family volleyball games almost every day. Guillermo (property manager) arranged all of the excursions. They were well coordinated and went off without a single problem. The Costa Rican Band and DJ added to the week's festivities. We kept the bartenders busy making daquiries and shirley temples. If you want a private, family getaway, you can't go wrong with Villa Ocotal. Thank you Pam, Mary, Guillermo, and the entire Ocotal staff!

Barefoot Villas was absolutely fantastic! We had a large group, 12 adults, 12 kids and everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Pam and Guillermo were excellent to work with from the very beginning when we were planning the trip. We had a lot of questions, they took the time to answer them in detail and were professional throughout the booking process. There were no issues at all during our stay. Our airport pickup/dropoff were very punctual and we were in comfortable vehicles. The Villa itself is gorgeous, it is well maintained and cared for. The entire team from the chef, bartender to housekeeping were truly kind and played a huge role in why we enjoyed this trip.
I highly recommend Barefoot Villas to anyone!

From the second you book until the day you leave the owner and staff take the very best care of you that you can imagine. Pam the owner and my little sister had many many conversations planning her wedding here at the big villa and they have some smaller villas on the property so what ever size group you have coming down or whatever your reason for coming this is where you want to be. The view is incredible, the food and amenities are incredible, the whole staff are friendliest in the world.
Now let's talk about Guillermo the on site manager of all the Barefoot villas, the man is truly a one of a kind blessing for all of us in our group. He can arrange anything you need down here and save you time and money, we tried arranging a fishing trip ourselves and Guillermo got us an amazing trip for way less money than we were being quoted. A bunch of the group did local tours and zip lines, massages on site. Guillermo will set you up and take the very best care of you, the man is truly amazing.
It's time to travel again my friends and the staff down here will make you feel safe as they all wore their masks 100% of the time we were down here and were constantly keeping everything wiped down and clean every single day. Don't let the Covid virus stop you from coming down to Costa Rica.

Rooms were very clean at all times. Staff made sure to check in and provide anything we could’ve needed throughout our stay. Food was good but variety could have been better, we were served steak/beef 3 nights of our 6 night stay. Bartenders and maintenance men were too notch and always had us laughing, and very professional even when the volleyball went down the mountain 3 times in an hour. Mario the monkey was also a great addition and was our favorite visitor! Locals were welcoming and friendly in town and surrounding areas.

This was my second trip to Villa Cascada and I cannot wait to go back. The food was fantastic and more than you can ever finish! Our group went on a memorable fishing trip which Guillermo set up and we were able to feast on the catches that night prepared by the excellent chefs. Jack and Pam provided so many fun experiences! My favorites were the day on the Don Bosco, when we sailed to an island and had a meal prepared on the beach. Again, the food was unbelievable!! We spent the day swimming, paddle boarding and playing on the beach. Also, a personal favorite was the Casino night which the staff spent the whole day setting up! It did not disappoint!! I felt like I was at a real Casino and we ended the night with an auction for prizes with the “funny money” we won! It was so fun!! We also had zip lining excursions, went to see the monkeys and animals at the Congo, and shopping in town. The Villas are kept spotless by the amazing staff. We had babies with us and they went way beyond to keep them happy and accommodated all the special needs associated with the young ones. Our room’s view was unbelievable, I loved having early morning coffee on the patio watching the sunrise! Leaving the Villa was hard!! The staff becomes like family and I was sad to say goodbye! If you want a trip which is full of fun experiences, wonderful people, views you won’t find anywhere else, fantastic food and owners who delight in making you comfortable - this is your place!!

We had the best time on our Costa Rica trip & a huge reason was because of our stay at Barefoot Vacation Villas! The staff was amazing...everything was top notch. Food was amazing and plentiful. Close, easy access to the beautiful Ocotal Beach. This was a family trip with kids. They loved it just as much as the adults. Highlights of the house: the staff was #1! Meals/drinks/Snacks; close to beach; pool; views; laundry service every day (we could have each brought 2 sets of clothes and a bathing suit & been just fine!) The staff was so gracious and answered all 10 million questions we had about Costa Rica!

Villa Cascada was magnificent! The villa comes complete with a giant pool with a waterfall, volleyball net, hot tub and spectacular views from a massive deck. The air conditioned rooms are spacious and cleaned thoroughly each day by friendly staff. The meals and beverages are plentiful, delicious, and served by chefs and bartenders who are the definition of excellence customer service. Barefoot is first class all the way!

This was our third trip to Villa Cascada. We can’t imagine anywhere else that could get better each trip. We could never thank Jack and Pam Cox and their whole staff for making each stay as completely relaxing, totally entertaining, and unbelievable stress-free as they do. From the minute you arrive to moment you depart your needs are met in every imaginable way. The beautiful and immaculate villa itself is set up to accommodate a large group with a variety of ages and interests. Everyone from the oldest to the youngest in our group would agree that the trip was perfect for them. There are a variety of outside excursions and activities. The most amazing part is that all the arrangements are made for you. This vacation has none of the usual trip confusion. The hardest decisions are about what to wear or whether to have a milkshake or a frozen cocktail while basking in this glorious setting and if you just can’t decide no worries there is always staff to help you. Costa Rica and the Barefoot Villas get a perfect score! Amazing!

Villa- Cascada. Beautiful location. Amazing thoughtful service. Staff was professional yet very friendly and welcoming. They sincerely want you to enjoy being there. Food was spot on for our group of 28 with chef seamlessly adjusting as needed for various sensitivities/preferences. Wonderful quiet, swimmable Ocotal beach is a 5 minute stroll away. There are no stores and only one restaurant in Ocotal but you don’t need any as Villa Cascada had all you need. We saw monkeys and lovely birds from the deck at various times which was super cool.
We had golf carts available for our group to tool around or go into Playa Coco which is maybe 10-15 min away. I think that was an add on but the management clearly works with the group in planning. They also arranged the fishing, catamaran and other outings based on what group or individuals wanted. They hook you up with 1st tour guides and transportation.
Housekeeping and included laundry service was wonderful and the place is SPOTLESS. Good security on the property made you feel you could relax like and joy like the private house gathering intended.
Last the staff has many employees who have worked there for years and honestly we all left our phones and valuables laying around with nary an incident . Amazing!

You may want to view the Barefoot Vacation website and then click the floor plans. The Villa does not assign any rooms. The group leader provides this information to our office. There are 2 rooms that adjoin # 5 & #6 and #13 & #14. Rooms #8 & #9 are smaller but they are the quietest rooms in the Villa. Very few guests stay in their rooms during the day as there is so much to enjoy around the Villa - whether playing the games (shuffleboard, pool, corn hole, ping pong, water volleyball, etc.) or a quiet spot to read and relax - people tend to be less particular about their rooms than one would be at a hotel.
