OK this place is pretty cheap and the location is excellent. Must say I am not impressed with the town though, even in January it feels depressing! So it's Saturday night in January and the place is pretty empty. Kind of says it all. So much potential but this place is like something from the 1950s and needs updating. My...

Nicely situated opposite a rough and tumble beach with lovely sunsets. Plenty of off road parking and easy to find. The Manager was friendly, helpful and she made us feel at home. Barnacles is near to a small shopping centre. The room we stayed in was large, with an antique dresser and a hand basin. The kitchen was very small...

We stayed here when in town to celebrate a friend's wedding just up the road so the location was super handy - just across the road from the beach, golf club and shops. I loved the historic memorabilia and photos on the walls. The place has loads of history and character. Unfortunately it's seen better days and I didn't want...

Easy to find and in an interesting building this hostel is conveniently located on the main road in Paraparaumu. The rooms are small but each has its own sink. The kitchen is well equipped. We only stayed for one night but would definitely stay there again. The manager was very helpful and let us leave our rental car on the...

Stayed one short night with my five year old son. Great value for money, clean room and facilities. Friendly welcoming host who made sure we were comfy. The building is definitely the highlight, such character, the floor boards each tell you a story as they creak. This place is not five star but neither is the price. Would happily stay...

This place needs to be renovated indeed. In the beginning the hostel feels like a maze but you will find your way out. Ceilings are really low. Small kitchen, oven didn't work?! Located in front of the beach. Host is rcery kind. Clean rooms and showers/toilets.

YHA Barnacles Seaside Inn Paraparaumu is an old bed and breakfast which is in need of a good renovation.   "Restored to its former glory" is NOT the correct description as advertised on the web at all!!  VERY tired and grubby (cobwebs at every corner and above dated pictures) we stayed here one night only whilst waiting a room to...

The place has a lot of character, with vintage furniture and great old pictures of the area. The host was also extremely accommodating, considering we were arriving so late at night she was happy to leave a key out for us. The bathroom and kitchen facilities were quite clean and tidy, and was certainly helpful having a sink in the...
