We opted to stay in the Rowda Waber Harari Cultural Guest House because we wanted to stay within the walls of the old city and wanted to experience a little of old Harar. The guest house was not the most comfortable or cleanest place we stayed in Ethiopia but it was perhaps the most characterful. Look at the visitor photos...

Please visit this wonderful city lost in time and stay at this fabulous, authentic guesthouse. Rowda is one of hundreds of traditional islamic houses in the old city but only a few offer accommodation and none as comfortable or homely as this one. Solomon is a friendly, knowledgable guide who will give you a terrific insight into every alleyway and...

Overall, I would recommend this place. I think most people don't make reservations for Rowda's guesthouse (because you can't do it online), but rather just show up at the door. I was being paranoid and called to make reservations 2 months beforehand with Aysha, the girl who speaks good English there. Her number is (+251) 921 872 867. Its good...

Rowda cultural guest house is built in the classic and historic Harar house style. If you stay here be sure to find someone who can explain the architecture and the meaning of the different rooms. It's really really interesting. We found the guesthouse to be comfortable and in a location convenient to almost everything in the old city. We stayed...

If you are happy to share your bathroom, live without on-site wifi (walk up the road to one of the soul-less looking hotels on the outside of the city walls) and would enjoy warm home made bread and honey for your breakfast you should consider staying in this colourful and historic guest house. It is clean, has hot showers, and...

It is difficult to find (with no sign), but once inside, you will be impressed. Within the bustling town of Harar, this is a relaxing base. The staff was very helpful and kind, serving great chapatti for breakfast.

Rowda’s Guesthouse is located up a side alley off Zegah Ugah street in the walled city. The centrepiece of the courtyard is a good example of a traditional Harari house, with a reception room with a wonderful display of traditional Harari basketware and other artefacts hanging on the walls. The courtyard has lower, later, wings on each side. The guesthouse...

Stayed for two nights. We liked it better here, than at Anisas guesthouse, but It was probably because our bedroom had a door to the bathroom, which was nice. They gave us towels when we asked for it. Breakfast was served in the livingroom, two "pancakes" with honey, and the choice between coffee or tea. Nice and friendly people. Would...

It was not easy to find. Plans fell through with our guide after a flight delay and we were left to attempt to navigate our way to the guest house on our own. Needless to say, we were unsuccessful. The tuk tuk driver dropped us at a hotel with a similar name about a mile outside the walled city. Luckily...
