We have stayed at Le Clos over several years now, drawn back by a unique place, wonderful friendly reception, exceptional service and delightful and comfortable rooms. Verneuil sur Avre is a lovely medieval village and well placed for visits to Chartres, Giverny etc.

It is always a pleasure to visit somewhere and the find that the standard has not dropped. We stopped for the night whilst traveling to the UK for Christmas. Odile and Eric have maintained their very high standard. We know we will always enjoy our stay and this time was no exception. We rate Le Clos as one of the...

We just finished a three-day stay at Le Clos and it was wonderful in every way. Erik and Odile are the perfect hosts and make sure you are comfortable in every way possible. The suite was fantastic - lots of room and a beautiful view of the garden. Dinners were amazing. From the foie gras to the morilles to the...

We arrive late, at around 9pm, after driving for 8 hours. We stayed with Eric and his lovely wife, Odile, for 4 nights. They bumped us up from a standard garden room to the Junior Suite no. 9. It was beautifully done, with heavy sheets, wooden shutters, and a north-facing view over the courtyard and the historic town of Verneuil...

We booked the private room to celebrate a family birthday, chose the wine and tasting menu in advance and were not disappointed. Eric and his team provided a beautiful meal with the utmost attention to service. Next time we'd love to stay!

A charming establishment and great personal attention from the management. The hotel was surprisingly quiet when we were there and we are at a loss to understand why tourism is so slack at this time of year. The hotel was superbly comfortable. We had a really nice dinner and would love to go back again.

This was our fifth stay at Le Clos but this time we visited with my parents and their small dog because we wanted them to see the beautiful town of Verneuil sur Avre and to enjoy the fantastic hospitality offered by the owners of Le Clos, Odile and Eric. We knew what to expect but it was good to see...

This lovely hotel in situated in Verneuil-sur-Avre a unique village in the Normandy region. The rooms are well appointed with beautiful linens and comfortable king bed. A two night weekend stay requires a dinner reservation for one of the nights. Dinner is formal with a la crate and 5 course menu. A breakfast buffet is severed in their beautiful solarium...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Le Clos, the story start in 1770 when the nuns of the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas bought the land under the old regime called "The garden of the Beguine". Bordered by the remains of city walls and a tower called the white tower, the plots became peasant gardens. A century later, in 1886 - under the protection of a gentleman benefactor of the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas - a Castle was born. The Benedictine nuns began hosting families opened a school for girls of the abbey. The round tower and the square pavilion, pepper-pot roofs and four slopes, false battlements and tall chimneys, windows and doors decorated with braces, are a harmonious example of architectural style of Viollet-Le-Duc. The mansion was an inspiration for the architect to draw on the exceptional tower houses that have adorned the town of Verneuil since the fifteenth century. In gothic style, the walls come alive with color. The "checkerboard", so characteristic of the region, combines the dark brick called "flamed" orange brick and whitewashed plaster, while flints and brick diamonds offer subtle variations in the tone. The sisters welcome families into the 1960s. In 1961, it was renamed the Hostellerie du Clos. In 2007 it became Le Clos. The castle original will require ongoing renovations, modernization and decoration but will preserve its original spirit. In the spring of 2015 will rise to a former conservatory Gustave Eiffel style of 100 sqm, facing south with a view overlooking the park. It will host the breakfasts, a restaurant that showcases the "Bistronomie" tea room, reading and rest ... A relaxation area with a swimming pool cover, bio sauna, bio steam room, fitness , energy showers ... Finally a south-facing terrace on the ground floor equipped with sun and a beautiful place "nose in the grass" to eat more lightly. Today, the castle of fifteen rooms and suites located in a park of ancient trees has beautiful botanicals, beautiful and loyal birds, four hives with bees pollinate flowers and tree gardens. He is a member of Relais & Châteaux since 1975 and this year celebrates its fortieth anniversary of belonging to this great association ... more   less
