I stayed here for 4 nights with my daughter and two grandsons aged 6 and 8. It was lovely!
The grounds are beautiful, with a super swimming pool. We had two adjoining rooms, one large double with bathroom and one with a double bed and...More
Great rooms - bright airy and well maintained. Quiet and well away from the road noise an hustle and bustle that is Mwanza but close enough to the centre of town and with good views over the lake. Town centre is within an easy 5...More
After fleeing from Gold Crest Hotel, we found this place on advice of friends. It was quiet, clean, responsive and GREAT! I would definitely stay here again. The only problem I had was that the safe did not work (at Gold Crest, my room didn't...More
We have eaten at the hotel regularly and never been disappointed. Recently, however, we actually stayed there, too. The rooms are large, spacious and quiet. The restaurant has always been good, with friendly and (fairly) efficient service. Throw in the other amenities - safe parking,...More
I revisited this facility since more than 5 years ago when I last stayed here. The facility as a whole is very well maintained and everything was as good if not better than my previsions stay. Improvements is noticeable. The morning breakfast buffet is ample...More

Neither Malaika or Ryan's Bay's pools are heated. Malaika's pool is an infinity pool that goes out to the lake which is nice. It's slightly curved so for laps not sure if that's an issue. Ryan's Bay pool is straight but with a less dramatic view. Sizes are similar.
The internet at both is throughout the hotels. I would say the speeds of both aren't great and if you want to do more intense surfing than email you may get frustrated. If you'll be there for more than a few days you can always purchase a local prepaid phone line for less than a dollar, register it with your ID, buy airtime and use the 3G from that which is much better. Vodacom and Airtel are both good. The shops can help you sign up with their internet packages or you can do it yourself. Vodacom is *149*01# Airtel is *148*88# then just follow the prompts and make sure you have enough voucher to buy the package you want.
From the outside, Malaika is a better hotel. It has beautiful views, landscaping and a lot of potential to be great. Unfortunately that's where it ends from my experiences. The service is ok but can be hit or miss, the food is not very good at all and overpriced and the rooms have been neglected. The doors and locks may not function properly the rooms have been dusty and dirty in the past etc. It does have a playground if you're traveling with kids. It's not in town but out by the airport so you'll need a taxi to get to town.
Ryan's Bay has less dramatic views but they're still nice. The food is much better and the service is fine. The hotel and rooms are maintained much better and in my opinion are more comfortable. It's also in town so if you want to go to a different place to eat or walk around and explore then you can. I travel for business but this is where I alway stay unless it's fully booked.
Hope that help you. Let me know if I can help answer other questions you have.
