The Premier Inn Pontypool Hotel garners compliments for providing exceptional service, with staff members that are often described as friendly and helpful. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness and comfort, a few guests have suggested they could benefit from some refurbishment. The atmosphere is deemed cozy and serene, although some visitors feel the decor could use a refresh.
The hotel's cleanliness, particularly in the bathrooms, earns high marks, enhancing the overall comfort of guests' stays. Offering good value, the hotel is well-regarded for its reasonable rates and convenient location close to local happenings. Despite the praise for its freshly cooked breakfasts, some reviewers note the amenities could be improved, pointing out minor shortcomings such as small glassware and the lack of heated towel rails.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed here to attend a charity gig arranged by a friend. We arrived a day early and the very nice lady on reception (name unknown but cooked breakfast Saturday and Sunday), made sure that the booking in our name arranged by a friend the following night was tied up to the same room. So nice that this was sorted on booking in rather than having to go back the following day as has happened in the past to get it sorted. We were short on towels but this was also soon rectified. We also dealt with a lady called Pippa who was very helpful and checked on several occasions if we needed ny more help.. Was a pleasant change to find such friendly and helpful staff in a chain hotel, previously we have found they only do what they have to! Will definitely stay here again.

Hotel's Favourite
I’m a fairly frequent visitor to the area due to my work commitments and I normally stay at this location.
The experience this visit was as normal with the staff being helpful and professional at all times. Of particular note is Lynne on reception. I had a telephone with her prior to my arrival and she handled the query and request in a polite, understanding and professional manner.
Thank you again for an enjoyable stay.

We were visiting family who live in the area so what we really wanted was somewhere clean comfortable and convenient to stay and that's exactly what we got. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. (We've stayed there several times over the past few years.) Breakfasts at the Harvester next door are very good so we've never tried the one in the Premier Inn. The rooms are comfortable and they provide all the essentials. Good value for money.
However, the hotel caters a lot for people working away from home, who have vans, which take up a lot of room in the car park. The spaces should be bigger to cater for this.

This is a bit of an odd hotel. First thing to say is that it was a Holiday Inn Express originally so all the rooms have the novel little bathrooms with the clever door that forms a toilet cubicle. The hotel has the strange feature of a breakfast restaurant that only does breakfasts. How the bean counters justify that waste of space and facilities is anyone's guess.
The room we had was very tired. It is the early 2000s version of decor with the awful side-lighting only. No central light leaving the room dingy. They only refitted hotels like this for a few years before bring back central lighting.
On the upside, we had a proper opening window for real fresh air. No horrible aircon.
But it was all a bit chipped, marked, dented and run down. The kettle was broken (the lid fell off where it's hinge was broken. The TV remote worked if you pointed it directly at the screen from punching range. The fan in the bathroom didn't work so the steam didn't dissipate enough and the towels (not routinely changed each morning, although we could have asked for new ones) struggled to dry. Premier Inns used to do heated towel rails, but those are a distant memory and a casualty of economic cut backs. A removed shaver charger is another nuisance.
We also had to join a queue to check in as the computers were working in ultra slow mo. Whitbread have often had IT troubles and I can't count the number of times I have seen their check in desks go belly up. Several times I have just been given a key and asked to come back to reception in the morning to check in.
Here, however, when we finally got to the desk, we were relatively quick getting in as we had our booking details at hand. We couldn't book breakfast though.
We couldn't book it the next night either as water was pouring in from the ceiling right on to the reception desk.
I felt sorry for the staff. The hotel is clearly low of Whitbread's list of things to make good.
The staff were all very friendly and we did have good breakfasts although the continental part seemed a bit spartan. Fine for me.
The room rate was very good and probably a reflection of the shabby state of the room. Fair dues.
Premier Inn do seem to be trying to be worse than Travelodge. I would have thought they would try to avoid that.

My first visit to pontypool and I thought I'd use premier inn as I thought it would be a safe option, however on arrival car park horrendous not much parking space, booking in slow out dated and with the fact I had to pay twice because of the slow booking process, Im still waiting for feedback on if I will get a refund! The hotel felt dated dirty like a place that is screaming out for some TLC. So to the room cold poor decorations, bedroom dark facilities poor little amount of tea coffee milk sugar etc no bottled water! Shower room small shower curtain dirty toilet dirty floor, your getting the picture not a warm welcoming place. So went out for dinner as I was disappointed o far! On my return after parking the car, I noticed that they was some noise coming from around the dustbin storage area and on putting my mobile phone light on there was 2 rats eating something out of the overflowing bins, which didn't give me great pleasure! So in general I just wanted to get the night over and leave, with the room being cold I'd put the storage heater on which wasn't the greatest thing.

We had a lovely stay here. Josh and Tracey was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast made by Josh who went above and beyond, we loved the convenient location. Thanks for a great stay.

The staff at the Pontypool Hotel were all brilliant & couldn’t do enough to help us, however our room (103) was very tired & needs some attention, which we felt you needed making aware of - the heating was not working & the room was quite chilly. We reported this to reception & they supplied us with a portable heater which helped. Also, one of the coat hooks behind the door was broken & unusable. We have stayed at Pontypool before, & found it very good, however we feel it needs some attention to bring it up to standard.

We stayed at this Premier Inn on 20.08.2022 during our latest visit to the area to visit our daughter.
We’ve stayed in numerous Premier Inns and, of course, they are all the same and very corporate so there’s not a great deal to say if you know the format. However, this one is in a good, quiet, location with good access to roads to get around the area and, in room 102, we didn’t have any issues with noise which was welcome given it is on the ground floor, close to the reception area. We received a very warm welcome from the staff who were extremely courteous
Sadly, there was no air conditioning in our room so, as always, with these types of hotels it was very warm over night so difficult to sleep
We would be happy to visit again though

The room was the standard layout of most premier inns with a comfy bed and extra pillows that are in a bag with a seal so you know they are clean and haven't been used. Our room was about as far away from reception and at the end of the corridor so was very quiet.
A time for breakfast had to be pre-booked due to restrictions and when we went it wasn't too busy. The food was ok, but a couple of minor errors with the service and food order and wasn't really value for money for what we ate.

No - windows are restricted opening on ground floor and probably above for safety. No fans or aircon seen. It’s not an especially hot area.
