We stayed here for two nights in January. It was our first real stop at the beginning of our trip and a gentle, easy introduction to Nicaragua. When you book to stay here, you get the island to yourselves, no other guests, just you and the staff. The price is very reasonable and includes transportation, all your meals and two private tours through the Isletas. I am surprised more people have not taken advantage of this little gem. The island itself is small. You can walk around it in three minutes. But the grounds are lovely and the swimming pool a delightful place to cool off in the heat. The hammocks were great. Our room was big with a wardrobe, a nice bed and bedside tables. The bathroom is small and there isn't hot water but that wasn't a big deal. There is no wifi and electricity only at night and in the morning. Francisco, our boat captain, was delightful. He took us on two long trips through the Isletas, showing us the highlights and even his home. He was so patient with our lack of Spanish. The ladies who cooked and did the rooms were pleasant, although with our total lack of Spanish we didn't interact with them much. The food was excellent...typical Nicaraguan meals...breakfasts of fruit, eggs and Gallo pinto, big lunches and dinners of grilled fish and chicken. There was way more than we could eat. We stayed here as a couple but it would be a great spot for a group or family. There are lots of rooms and you are treated royally. It would be a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Granada. We thought we had found our little slice of Paradise!

How sad that we only spent one night on this tiny island. After a month of the heat of Granada, El Roble was cool and breezy and tranquil. We sat around in the hammocks, swam in the pool, ate like royalty, took a beautiful two hour boat ride, and slept peacefully in the comfortably equipped rooms. The hosts, Francisco and Arlen, are wonderful and it seems we will need to visit Nicaragua again one day if only to come back to this quiet paradise.

I lived in Nicaragua for 2 years (in a small village in the central hills); when my family came to visit the country for the first time, I took them to Isletas El Roble. We rented the island for the day, and enjoyed the private island where we lounged in hammocks, used the pool, kayaked around the lake to view other isletas (gear provided upon request), and enjoyed a lunch of fresh fish, tostones (fried plaintains), vegetables and fresh squeezed pitaya (dragon fruit) juice. The lodging on the island provides a kitchenette where you can make your own food (though we opted for the prepared lunch), common room area, and bedrooms. We did not stay overnight, but instead rented the island for the day. The staff was very helpful, making sure we had everything we needed and was very responsive via email when we customized and reserved our day trip. I highly recommend this experience-- it's as personal, private, and relaxing as any upscale hotel and you'd be hard pressed to find such a favorably priced retreat elsewhere.

My husband and I spent three days at El Roble a couple of weeks ago. What an amazing place! Boris picked us up in the lancha and in less than 15 minutes we were on the little island and all to ourselves for three days. Francisco and Arlen (and sometimes their sweet 6 yr old son) were our sweet sweet hosts for three days. Arlen made us the most delicious huge meals and Francisco took us on a two hour tour of Las Isletas in the lancha, telling us all about the community there and all the flora and fauna. We could tell how much he loves his community and these isletas. There are only four bedrooms but if you reserve the island even if it's just two of you, you have it all to yourselves for the entire time. We got up early to watch the sunset over the water right outside our bedroom door, and enjoyed the sunset every afternoon from our hammocks by the small pool, overlooking Mombacho. This is a honeymoon get-away if we've ever seen one! Awesomely beautiful and peaceful. The last morning we took the kayaks that they provide and toured all around by ourselves. The whole stay was like being on a big boat but without the rocking! We have the highest recommendation for El Roble!

My husband, two daughers and I loved El Roble! Everything was superb, starting with the ease of making a reservation via e-mail. For our first day, the boat was ready early, and we had a lovely tour of birds on our way to the island. Once there, we were so pleased with the rooms, the service, the setting, and of course the food! We would recommend El Roble to anyone seeking beauty, peace, comfort, great food, all within the truly unique community of Nicaraguans that make Las Isletas their home.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights on the Isleta in March. What an experience. The island is small but they never rent it to more than one party. The couple who takes care of the guests was very nice. The room are comfortable except during weekends because they play very loud music at an other island. You can hear the music very well if the wind is blowing toward the Isleta del Roble. We missed not having a curtain in the shower but apparently the French owner has always refused to put one. Ah these French people always different! But hw put a game of Boules that is great fun. The owner should also install solar panels to run the filter of the pool which now runs only for an hour a day. That's very little especially for a pool under the tropical sun. We left the Island with "a gout de trop peu". You need to stay at least 3 nights if you want to really appreciate this unique lodging facility. That's what we will do next time we visit Isleta del Roble.

We stayed at this little lodge for 2 nights and it was a very nice experience. It is not a luxurious hostal but it's confortable. It's on a small island in the middle of the Isletas. The island is tiny and you feel that you are on a special place. The meals are made by a couple who work there and it's very good. There is no air cond. and it's warm (a bit hot) but you can swim in the pool or in the lake. We did the best pictures of our entire trip there.

We stayed three nights on the Isleta at the end of our time in Nicaragua and it was the most peaceful, serene and amazing time I have ever experienced. The island is tiny - it takes about one minute to walk the perimeter - but beautiful. There are fruit trees and flowers everywhere. At sunset the nearby trees fill with birds and the unobstructed view of the volcano across the lake is unbeatable. The experience overall is a little bit rustic. There isn't much for entertainment out there but an old boom box, a deck of cards and a couple of old plastic kayaks. The bed isn't terribly comfortable and the mosquito net didn't work, there are no fans or air conditioning so it gets quite warm. But none of that mattered to us! Our boat driver took us on a wonderful tour around the islands, we didn't see another tourist the whole time we were out there and the birds and wildlife we saw while kayaking around the area were all highlights. The food was great and simple - fresh fish caught in the lake and fried plantains. The fridge stocked daily with cold Tonas! This is an amazing experience for seclusion and relaxation.

The stay was exactly what we were expecting with one exception - the rooms could use fans as it can get hot when the lake breeze dies down. The rooms were clean. There is no A/C or TV (A/C is not needed - the same could b argued about TV as well). This is a beautiful house / retreat that was converted from a private residence into a hotel. The staff is exceptional - Francisco the boat driver and Maritza the cook are both very nice to interact with. The food had a very local flair and was good. Since they only allow one set of guests at the hotel, it is a little more expensive, but the exclusivity of having your own private island, chef and boat driver sure makes this a memorable experience. The patio overlooks the private (shallow) pool, and overlooks Mombacho Volcano which is beautiful. Boris - is the Granada "contact" with whom you will coordinate everything. He is a French ex pat and is very nice.
