Stayed in the cottage at the rear of the hotel. The accommodation was very good, clean, warm comfortable. We could not fault this in anyway. We ate in the restaurant, which was a delightful setting...however being the only couple there lacked any atmosphere. The food; fish and chips was well presented and had tasty. We moved into the bar and...

We booked a "Superior" Room for three nights over New Year 2016 and also for our friends but to our dismay the room was shabby and bathroom was grubby and run down. Staff and food fairly good. Location excellent.

We visited the Charles Cotton Hotel for a drink and lunch after walking around Hartington. The pub/hotel welcomes walkers and dogs and the staff is very friendly and efficient. The food and drinks are reasonably priced.

We have visited this hotel for bar drinks and food several times during 2016 during walking holidays and always had a great welcome and second to none service Six of us popped in for a drink on New Years Eve to find it bereft of customers.... and we wondered why.. We found out... the drinks prices were extortionate. We were...

In spite of having booked weeks in advance there was no-one on reception or at the bar we were directed to. No beer available, no food unless you wanted an expensive steak. We didn't. A buffet was on offer that we were not keen on but we nevertheless got charged £20 for it! It seemed to be leftovers from Tesco's...

This is honestly one of the strangest places I have ever stayed. the location was lovely and the village of Hartington is a good base. The room itself was also lovely, with a huge bed, lovely large bathroom and was also very clean. However, adjacent to our room was a courtyard area which appeared to have been forgotten about and...

Oh dear. The food was acceptable and served by an apologetic barmaid/waitress who was sorry so many dishes were off and there were no real ales available, and the bare prices were so high. Those were the highlights. We should have realized something was wrong when, having had a drink in the heaving Devonshire Arms across the square, we ewturned...

What a lovely little hotel. We arrived on a Friday afternoon to be checked in by Turrum who proved to be extremely helpful all weekend. The bar is warm and welcoming with comfy chairs and a wood burner. Staff are friendly (Nicky was lovely), rooms perfectly acceptable with food and drink reasonably priced. Ideally situated for amazing walks. The management...
