Little Castle Barcaldine is a beautiful little castle in Argyle, surrounded by spectacular scenery. Many of its ancient features have been retained which gives it character and substance. On entering, the proprietor warns you that stairs are uneven. A sturdy rope acts as a handrail to help you climb the winding staircase. Our room and bathroom were generous in size...

We usually stay in modest accommodations for much of our trips but splurge for one or two nights for a unique experience. This certainly qualified in the latter category. There are a ton of castles converted to hotels, B&Bs, and airbnbs in Scotland. Some of the hotels appeared to house you in newer buildings nearby a castle, and that's of...

Can't say enough about this fantastic Castle stay. Rooms are well appointed and spacious. Decor is historic with modern features blended in with the historical features. The hosts are wonderfully charming. They will show you some of the hidden pleasures of the castle including several hidden stairwells. The castle and the Oban area have been the highlight of my 10...

What a lovely property. The rooms are all special and the Great Room is a delight! I loved my stay here. Be sure to ask the innkeepers various details - I found out why one window in the Great Room is larger than the others, why two deer heads that used to hang by the fireplace were moved, about the...

A spectacular way to complete my first trip (certainly not my last) to Scotland by staying the night in a castle hundreds of years old! Liz and Ronnie were amazing hosts from start to finish, though the booking process and then alterations twice to our reservations, they made it work. The grounds were stunning, the stories were amazing, the rooms...

We stayed here for two nights. My husband booked it as a surprise. Where do I start? The room was gorgeous. The bed was huge and comfy. You felt like you melted into it when you went to bed. Our hosts were wonderful. They were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were amazing with everything freshly made and served at your...

Wonderful stay - Quaint ancestral home of the Campbell Clan and Black Duncan Campbell. Full disclosure: my wife is a Campbell. Room from top floor lovely (no "lift"- elevator in the US). Liz and Ronnie make this place EXTRA special. Castle only has 6 double rooms, so full occupancy is 12 guests. Quaint restored Great Hall for breakfast which was...

We stayed here on the last night of a trip showing two American friends around some of Scotland. We wanted to finish with something special and Barlcaldine Castle delivered in spades. Lovely authentic building offering fantastic bedrooms with excellent facilities and gorgeous views. Our two rooms had views over Loch Creran and the mountains beyond, one with a 17th century...
