It is such a lovely place with such lovely people. Slightly outside the busy city, Secret Garden is an oasis of rest. Luxury cottages and a beautiful garden with tall trees giving an intimate atmosphere. It is run by a lovely German-Thai family that speaks their languages. It’s not only a beautiful place, they also serve delicious Thai food. If you are in or near Chiang Mia and want a break from all the tourism, Secret Garden is the place to visit.

Having traveled to S.E Asia over 25 years twice a year i have NEVER experienced Customer Service as wonderful from the owners, staff at Secret Garden! Peter, Pai and Isabel were always available to offer help in anyway possible! Peter is a great conversationalist and is always there in the mornings to greet customers! Pai, is a wonderful cook and by her dishes you can tell she loves to cook! Meals are wonderful in a homey atmosphere! Isabel, their daughter, was so patient and kind at every step of the process to select a house or Bungalow until i left 14 days later!! Isabel is a great cook too and always offering up, " Mike, can i get you anything special"? She made a delicious dressing for salads! Was patient with me due to a hearing loss! NEVER EVER have i experienced such care and customer service. The resort is a ways from town but so easy to get a Grab. You can always be in the city but you cheat yourself by not experiencing tranquility, genuine family atmosphere! i tend to have Social phobia but never felt uncomfortable! Read the so many great reviews for this resort!! There are many that describe the wonders of the Secret Garden that i am able to do~ Just Know it's a GO TO RESORT. Thanks Peter, Pai and Isabel! I'LL BE BACK!

Hi Mike, We are truly moved by your kind words. It was such a pleasure having you stay with us, and I am so glad that you felt comfortable. That is the aim, to have guests feel 'at home'. Working in the hospitality industry, being nice and accommodating should come naturally, and should be something you enjoy doing. However it is made even easier when we get guests like you Mike. You were always so kind to everyone. My staff all loved you to bits. My cousin Jaeng even said " is he leaving already?" is a sad way, not realising you had been with us for 14 days! I hope you and your wife are doing well, and that your wife had a speedy recovery after her surgery. I hope we can welcome you back sometime soon - - you will always be welcome here! Sending you both lots of love. Isabel

We just had a truly magical few days staying with Pai, Peter and Isobel at The Secret Garden Chiang Mai and we have left feeling as if we have made some wonderful new friends for life - we travelled with our two teenage children and we were instantly made to feel like family in a home away from home . A mix of Thai and Mexican buildings amongst a range of tropical flora, the Secret Garden lives up to its name. The family are so kind and genuine. We enjoyed learning about the history of how the Secret Garden came to be and how previously, it was a series of workshops making a range of goods from furniture to marionettes. Nothing was too much trouble and Pai and Isobel arranged our pick ups and drop offs and even did our laundry. We ate the best home made ( with love by Pai ) Thai food of our trip and Pai goes fresh to the market every day to pick up the ingredients and you are welcome to go with her and watch her cook . Peter is super interesting to talk to - a wealth of knowledge about so many things and the whole place is decorated with his art and carvings . From the very first contact Isobel was wonderful- so helpful with all questions and couldn’t do more for us - she’s just gorgeous ! Honestly this is the **only ** place to stay in Chiang Mai - an oasis of calm just a short ride out of the noise of the city - what an absolute gem ! Once you've stayed with them, I cannot see how you can come to Thailand and not stay with them again. With much gratitude - we will be back xx

Hi Meena and Chris! This review has out the biggest smile on my face. It was truly so lovely to host you and your family - and I couldn't agree more - when you left it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends we had known for years. I loved our conversations and it's always a plus when you meet like minded people. My parents put a lot of themselves into this garden. To me it has always been home, through all it phases - - from them making furniture to puppets to jewelry and then finally what is has become today. The garden has changed with us over the years. So in a sense, when we get guests, it feels more as though we are inviting people into our home/world. We are so happy to know you felt "at home" , it is the biggest compliment to us! We are far from a fancy/luxury resort, but we hope we make up for it in other ways. Thank you for your kindness, patience, and your wonderful energy! I really do hope we get you welcome you all back someday, and we would love to stay in touch. All the best to all of you, hope you are having a beautiful time down South, and that Maya/Maia ( not sure how you spell it) had a great birthday. Sending love to all from everyone here at the Secret Garden Isabel

We stayed in Secret Garden Chiang Mai for 3 nights and can just recommend this accommodation to everybody! We felt like home. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the hotel is one of the cosiest we have ever been. The cooking class with Pai, the traditional thai buffet in the evening, the fresh juices and fruits every morning for breakfast and most of all the friendly staff and Isabel who answered all our questions made our time in Secret garden memorable. Thanks a lot!

We love it when people describe our place as cozy! We want our guests to feel the comforts, love and details of home. It has been a very difficult time for us, especially after the lockdown during covid, so we really appreciate people coming to stay with us, and writing us a review - - it really helps us. Thank you for taking the time to do that. We hope you will remember you stay with us and that we can welcome you back one day. All the best! Isabel

We absolutely loved our stay at Secret Garden! Hands down the best part of our three weeks in Thailand. The hosts (Pai, Peter, and Isabelle) are an absolute pleasure to be around and we loved every second we were there. They helped us with everything from picking us up at the bus station, to driving us into town in the wee hours of the morning when it was too early to get a taxi, to letting us tag along to the local markets and cooking dinner with Pai. Secret Garden itself was incredibly beautiful and serene. We felt like we were in our own world, hidden from the hustle and bustle and with everything we could possibly need. We were able to truly relax here. The complimentary breakfast was a large smorgasbord of sandwich materials like meats, eggs, cheeses, tomatoes, as well as yogurt, potatoes and very fresh fruit. The dinners that were ordered from them were also delicious and some of the best food we had in Thailand. If you stay here and are culinarily inclined, definitely take the opportunity to learn to cook with Pai. Isabelle has a wealth of knowledge about things to do in Chiang Mai and the surrounding area as well as great restaurant recommendations. The pool was refreshing and clean and they have a pool bar as well. Can’t recommend secret garden enough!!!!

A true Treasure! Peaceful, relaxing and beautiful place. The rooms are very unique and lovely.- my favorite was the private area off the the bathroom one with nature for morning coffee. The most amazing was the family environment, home cooking and feeling part of the family. Accommodating to every wish!

Hi Rana, Thank you for taking the time out of your day to write us such a lovely review. It is really important for us, especially after not having any guests over the covid time. Although we are starting out slow again, we are hopeful that we can welcome some more kind guests, like yourself, this year. We all need to start somewhere again, but it is a really nice feeling to know that you enjoyed your stay with us. I hope the rest of your trip was great! and that your flight home is smooth sailing. Wishing you all the very best for 2023, and I truly hope to welcome you back to our garden again in the future. All the best from all of us here, Isabel, Peter and Pai Ps - hope your mum enjoys the small bag I gave you for her!

This is a wonderful family-run business that is open and running after covid! Don't miss it! It's a super place to stay and it offers a nice breakfast with the room and an inexpensive but exquisite & tasty Thai dinner if you don't want to go out in the evening. Although it is a little ways from Chiang Mai downtown, don't let that deter you! Secret Garden is the best kept secret out there. I've been going there for ten years and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. It is a beautiful enclave -- a secret garden! -- in a village, and the care and attention you receive from the family beats any other place. I recommend it highly. Do something different and give it a try. You won't regret it!

Hi June! Goodness, where to begin? "best kept secret" sounds great, but hopefully we can share it with a few more guests this year! As you mentioned , it is a little ways from Chiang Mai, roughly 12 km, but we hope that we make up for our location in other areas - -we are always trying to improve ourselves and always welcome constructive criticism. I already have a few things written up to change/try. We are so very grateful and thankful for your support over the years June. It really does mean a lot to us. When we have guests return, it feels like we are welcoming back old friends and family. It is the best compliment for us, to have guests return. I really enjoyed our talks, and your stories, which often made me laugh! It has been a couple difficult years, and for a while we weren't very hopeful, so you can imagine our happiness to know that our guests haven't forgotten us just yet. You have always been so kind to us, and it is not something we take for granted. You are forever welcome here, and we can't wait to have you back again in the near future. I hope your trip back home is an easy one, and that your year is filled with more adventure! Seeing as we have each other's whatsapps now, I will be sure to keep in touch with you! All the very best and see you soon again hopefully, Lots of love from all of us, Isabel, Peter , Pai

Best resort we could hope for! The place is breathtakingly beautiful. It's owned by a really nice family and it was amazing to learn the history of the place and get to know them. The service is above and beyond, anything we needed or had issues they took care of right away, helped us get to places, recommended attractions and get a driver when we needed. The food is unbelievably delicious and we even got to help make dinner and learn how to cook thai food. All in all an unforgettable experience, if we ever come back to Chiang Mai, we'll definitely stay here again.

This is such a special, magical place! Beautiful bungalows, a very beautiful garden. The owners are the most friendly, lovely people you have ever met. The food is gorgeous, you will not go out to eat anymore once you have tasted it! It's very close to Chiang Mai and easy to get there by bus and by scooter, but also you will experience the real Thailand when you are there. Nice for couples but also ideal for families. I can say with whole my heart: you will love this place!
