Steve and his wive were very friendly and helpful for our short stay in their cosy pub and comfortable bed and breakfast. Dinner was great and as foreigners we received a tasting of differents British beers before we had to choose. The bedroom was very neat, the beds slept well, we really felt tucked away in the tranquil countryside, with...

Walked the Yorkshire Wolds Way last week and stayed a night here. I'm very glad I did. Excellent hosts, excellent food and drink, very reasonably priced room. Lack of wifi and TV was actually something of a relief. I can't fault the place - they even laid on an early (and very good) breakfast on a chilly morning, complete with...

Great pub for a stop off for a drink and a bite to eat whilst on a walk. Friendly environment with an open fire and welcoming landlord. Very good food!!!! Served food until 2pm. Look forward to going back soon.

This is the best pub accommodation I have stayed in as a walker, and I've now done 12 National Trails! The principal reason is their understanding of the needs of hikers and the commitment to making us comfortable, when I have generally found pubs to be fairly rigid and not great value for money. So I had a drying room/boot...

We visited this pub after spending some time at The Robert Fuller Gallery which, by the way is excellent, and had our lunch at the Cross Keys. I don't wish to be unduly kind but the meal was like something you would get in the 1960's! Frozen chips, frozen fish, packet peas and my husband had a fry up with...

We stayed here for one night whilst walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way and what a find! The real ale is excellent! The room was very comfortable and having a drying room and boot store was great (although thankfully we were walking on a dry day!). Steve and Mary were very hospitable and welcoming, and we enjoyed chatting to them both!...

We have just spent Saturday night at the Cross Keys with three friends. We have all agreed that the weekend has been amazing. The accommodation is in a very pretty seperate building to the rear of the pub. The rooms are beautifully clean with incredible views. Breakfast was absolutely first class and plenty of it, no supermarket bacon/sausages in sight!!...

What a beautiful area Thixendale is. We arranged a pick from the Wolds way and return the next morning by the landlord and it was quick and prompt. presented with a pint in the beer garden on arrival and shown to our delightful rooms. All clean and comfortable and separate from the pub so also quiet. Steve, Mary and Brenda...

Brilliant stopover for walkers. Landlord definitely 'gets' us. Arrived in bar greeted with dry wit and teasing, kicked off my boots and he brought drinks over (opened a tab for that and evening meal, "so you just relax and pay in the morning" carried bags to room, after a relax in the bar he accompanied us to room with fresh...

Made to feel very welcome and after being shown to our room we had a good evening meal and a good craft beer. I had the chicken whilst son had a beef burger with all the trimmings. This is an old fashion country pub so don't expect anything posh, just good pub food at a decent price. We only stayed...
