The best hotel in Zanzibar! Very very nice hotel, perfectly clean, great breakfasts and dinners! European cuisine, beautiful and calm environment, organization of any events and trips. Respectful attitude.
Quiet, elegant hotel with exceptional food. Clean swimming pool, closeness to the beach, very nice staff. The room with a great view was simple, but elegant and spacious. Especially suitable for solo travellers or couples.
The resort is very beautiful with beautiful landscaping, but unfortunately lack of coherent service and food were the issues. We had a beautiful beach bungalow in the ‘private corner’ of the resort – or at least we thought so. It was quiet at least for the first couple of days until a family with children came to the next bungalow. Of course, the children were very noisy jumping and shouting by the pool and that was very annoying, as we had understood that this was a ‘quiet hotel especially for couples.’ This was very disappointing. They stayed a few days and enjoyed - unlike we did. We stayed at the hotel for nine days. If we’ve only stayed 2 – 5 days, that would totally have ruined our holiday. A very big minus also was when one of the hotel Masai guards was filming me/us with his phone when I/we were sunbathing and staying in our terrace! Just couldn’t believe what was happening! That is a big NO! We were really concerned and told about this incident to the lady in charge in the reception (who didn’t introduce herself to us over these nine days). After a while she came to tell us, that the phones of the guards were checked and it was ‘only a video call’ what he did. What! So, that is ok then? It doesn’t matter, if the phone is even off when you are pointing with it to the customer who thinks that she/he is safe place and can relax privately. I felt very uncomfortable after that. This same guard was walking with his phone several times and a couple of times scared me when I was using the outdoor shower – he was sitting beside the shower behind the bushes with his phone! Can’t tell was he filming or not, but that was also very, very uncomfortable. I felt like my privacy was insulted by these incidents and never expected this kind things to happen in the resort of this kind. I felt unsafe and uncomfortable for the rest of our holiday. About the food: the food served (we had a breakfast and a four-course dinner every night) was inconsistent – you never knew if it would be ok, good, bad or very bad. There were a couple of very good dishes as well. The menu was only seafood – you can change the dishes if you wish though. We did it once and took meat instead and it was just horrible. Usually I wait for the breakfast, but there was nothing to wait for in this breakfast. It was very plain and again the quality was inconsistent – I had a toast with a poached egg and it was ugly and bad. My husband had it later and it was ok. We have eaten really good breakfasts in the hotels in Africa and Zanzibar, so this experience was bad and sad. Also in one dinner they gave us two totally different desserts – one was ok and the other one was a melted ‘something’. That is not acceptable. The personnel tried to be polite, but unfortunately you could see that they were not happy. It is of course not their fault, but lack off good management. The hotel did not treat their customers equally. There was a one table reserved every morning and evening for one middle-aged couple. Nobody could sit there until they had finished their meal – and no, they didn’t live in the villa, not even in a beach bungalow like we did, but somehow got this ‘special service’. They had fresh flowers on their table every day – that was the only table with flowers. We didn’t even get a ‘happy anniversary wishes.’ We told the hotel before we came that we are there to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary, but they ignored it totally. Not even congratulations. That reserved table was almost hilarious, but when you think about the equal customer service for everybody it shouldn’t be like this. We were not the only ones who were confused about this. We saw other people also wondering what the hell was going on. A lot of improvements must be made before this hotel (service and food) reaches a luxury hotel status – or maybe they don’t even want to do that. If you are looking for a real beach holiday, this is not the area, as there is a low tide, and the sea and the beach are ‘dirty’. The beach is beautiful for walking though and not so crowded like the Northern beaches. We really loved our bungalow and had a few wonderful days there, but unfortunately, we didn’t feel ourselves welcome at all. We paid all together about 400 dollars/night and were expecting better service and food experience. It was like they didn’t care, if the customers were happy or not. My husband thanked the lady at the reception when we left, but I stayed quiet, as she was reluctant to take feedback. Like said the resort and our beach bungalow were absolutely beautiful and clean, so it was very strange that the service and the food was not up to the same standard. With a good luck you might have an amazing holiday.…
Our second trip to Zanzibar and this place was amazing. We stayed in the honeymoon villa, which is right on the beach with its own private pool. The villa was spacious, well air conditioned and met our needs. All of the villas looked great though. You had a choice of three different sun beds (beside the pool, under the Palm trees or on the main beach.). The beach was nice and you could walk out to the reef at low tide (lots of sea urchins though). The whole resort was well maintained and very clean. The staff were friendly, efficient and talkative ( but still discreet and not in your face). The Managers were very accommodating with nothing being too much trouble. We had half board and the breakfasts were huge, fresh and good quality. The dinner was 4 courses (changed each night) with the option to swap out meals. They even did a private dinner on the beach for us. Would definitely come back.…
The hotel is absolutely wonderful, the setting is amazing and the service impeccable. Working in the hotel industry myself, I know I can be very demanding but this hotel has really exceeded all my expectations. We were here on our honeymoon and I would truly recommand this hotel to anyone travelling to zanzibar. The food was also excellent.
