Considering there’s more and more institutions, industries and factories here in Batu Kawan, The Upper House served as the only hotel currently at this area, so definitely suitable to those might coming here for business/work trip.

Or even for people who just want to get a rest place and explore the mainland of Penang like me.

They have room catered for solo traveller and it is very spacious for one person like me. Big and comfortable bed with smart TV in the front. There’s work desk beside as well.

Lots of plugs and USB chargers in the room, with amenities like safe, small fridge, dryer and water basin. There’s also space to keep your big luggage under the bed.

The toilet and bathroom are combined together, so it is total spacious inside. The heater however can reach warm only at the maximum for my room.

Unlike most hotel with carpet flooring which is soft when your foot step on it, here like stepping on concrete and unpleasant for me. I would recommend you to prepare additional sock to wear.

The air conditioning in the room is not quiet enough for me when sleeping, as it will produce sound even I have set it lower. But the cold temperature is good for me.

Although the location is located conveniently in this new township, there’s not a lot of eating places around here, unless you go to Design Village or IKEA. Also it is very hard to walk around here. The commercial area in front of the hotel was a consider a ghost town, but hopefully it will get better in future; since this is a very new area.

If you are staying here, do remember to check out their swimming pool at the rooftop as well.

This is a new hotel which only started its operations in Q4 2020. Being the first (and currently the only) hotel in Batu Kawan town, it is certainly a useful option for business travelers on the mainland side of Penang (esp. those visiting the Batu Kawan Industrial Park). Do be reminded though, that the rooms here are meant for single or dual occupancy only, and if you do come in a larger group (e.g. with your family in tow), connecting rooms are available to cater for that. Amenities here include an adult pool and a rooftop bar.

I stayed here with my family of five in a connecting room setup... and we had a pretty comfortable sleep and stay here over a recent December weekend. IKEA Batu Kawan is just a short 3 minutes' drive from here, and so are the Central Island Park @ Aspen Vision City and Design Village.

Staffs are friendly and helpful, hotel is clean and comfy, overall is great, valued for the price paid for. The Covid SOPs are greatly practiced and administered, felt safe and enjoyed on the stay. Staffs attitude greatly brought up the quality of the hotel.

It's a very new, cozy n affordable hotel located at bukit mertajam. Although its kinda far from city center, yet. Its totally worth of staying there. Staff is friendly and the breakfast is nice although it's packed and it'll be delivered to the room. The room size is just nice for solo, it could be a bit pack for couple staying, however, you may choose others room type instead. It's located at a newly established area, you can enjoy "out of city" and not crowded.

Definitely will stay again for next business trip to bukit mertajam

My recent stay at Upper House Hotel has left me profoundly dissatisfied with the overall quality of service and the evident disregard for customer well-being. I entrusted the housekeeping staff with my room's cleanliness and safety, only to return from work to discover my HDMI cable had been mercilessly torn apart, with the cable head lodged in my PS4. The damage was so severe that even a new cable failed to establish a connection, revealing additional harm to the PS4 port. The hotel's response to this incident was horrendous.

Despite reporting the incident, there was no accountability or acknowledgement of wrongdoing. The manager refused to recognize the damages and claimed the hotel isn't responsible, which is disheartening.

I'm dismayed by the manager's refusal to acknowledge damages caused by the housekeeping staff. She not only sided with them, implying dishonesty on my part but also claimed the hotel won't take responsibility due to the absence of room cameras. This essentially allows housekeeping to damage personal belongings without consequences.

Adding to the disappointment, the manager justified the hotel's decision, stating that any other hotel would do the same. This attempt to normalize negligence is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the hotel's commitment to guest satisfaction and security. The overall treatment throughout the ordeal was hostile, with no empathy shown.

Stayed at this hotel for a work trip.

The internet connection was one of the best I have had at a hotel- way better than some 5-star hotels. Was able to do work video conference calls without any issue.

Good location for both work and leisure- not too far from the industrial parks (mainland and Penang island) and the second Penang bridge. It is also very near Tambun the famous seafood village.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, always ready to help. The bed was very comfortable. Instead of bottled water, you use the water cooler which is much more environmental friendly and you have unlimited drinking water (hot and cold).

Good value for money.

Nice clean minimalist hotel. Love the interior design, even though room size is quite narrow for a deluxe twin room type. Conveniently located in a commercial area. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Limited parking spaces.
