Detailed Reviews
We love this place and return every year as it is such a beautiful, peaceful and healing setting. All the staff are kind, generous and assist in very way possible to make our stay the best possible. We take a short bike ride to the Borobudur temple nearby, only 10mins max. There many things to see around this area or simply relax on the grounds and unwind. I get the deepest sleep here. Thank you dear Pak Boedi and all the staff!!

My friends and i stayed at rumah boedi for 3 nights. As the others here on trip advisor have mentioned, the lush surroundings make for a tranquil environment. However some cons were the random brown soil residue bits that we found on our beds every night (possibly from the ceiling), smelly bath towels and lack of a phone in the room. Also since its in the midst of nature be expected to find mosquitoes- it comes with the environment. Staff here is friendly and we all agreed that the cycling tour we signed up for (about 250,000 rp per person) was the best experience we had in boroburdur! We went with a guide named budi who was super friendly and was very patient with us as we cautiously cycled through the stunning padi fields.
Travelers do beware of the transport the hotel hires for you though. We had the same driver twice called eewan. On the first occasion we wanted to see the ramayanan ballet at prambanan temple on a saturday night. The hotel assured us that it was open and booked eewan's car. Once we got on the car though, eewan tried to pressure us to visit another ballet instead which he said was the same. He continued on despite us rejecting him politely. A friend of mine finally had to tell him off rather firmly to say the ballet had been confirmed. Eewan then asked us whether we had already booked the tickets - upon knowing we hadn't, he handed us a brochure from 2014 showing that the ballet was not showing that particular day. Well luckily we insisted and got to watch a fantastic ballet at prambanan! We even took the updated 2015 calendar brochure and handed it to eewan.
On the second occasion, we told eewan that we wanted to go to merapi then spa then dinner. However, his attitude soured towards the end of the day and insisted we go back to the hotel for dinner. When we refused, he was sullen. He dropped us somewhere and impatiently told us to hurry and pointed at his watch. He intervened (or tried to) in our food choices at dinner and laughed in our faces when we told him to stop. It was a huge put off for our vacation to have to deal with such an unprofessional driver. We have the same feedback to rumah boedi. The next time you visit this hotel, be sure to ask for a more professional and service oriented driver.

We chose to stay here with the kids to be near to the temple and to better absorb the energy of Borobudur. However the least expensive rooms were too small and the day manager wasn't very friendly. He offered no discount despite our complaints of the minuscule size of the rooms as he very well knew that there were no alternatives around the Borobudur area. His attitude wasn't hospitable. I wouldn't stay there again...

Apart from being surrounded by lush green garden, its a dilapidated residence. I was the only one occupying one room in the residence. Toilet door got locked at 10pm. Since no phone in the room, on that still night I could not find anybody in the reception. Manage to see the gate keeper lying down and resting in one corner wearing in ear phones. He noticed me got me another room. There were two lizards in the room to provide me with stereophonic hissing sounds throughout the night. While booking, website stated junior suites were all booked, but I got there, it was all empty and I was told of an upgrade to the deserted junior suite would cost an addition more than what I paid for the room. Breakfast and since there was nobody at the residence, I was offered mee goreng or fried rice, with coffee and papaya(not as good as what the owner claimed) Toilet paper was at its minimum and no additional ones left in the room. I travel widely and in total, its one of my worst experience. Later I found out that there are many more well kept places to stay in borobodur.

Really disappointing.
The open air lounge is nice and create a great atmosphere.
Rooms are extremely tiny, no space for a chair or even your luggage.
Bathroom is rudimental and extremely small. Do not expect to be able to put your amenities (yours not the ones from the hotel )))) there is nothing but a very small sink. But you can have a pee, shower, and brush your tees all in the same time.
This is not worth more than 30 USD I believe and certainly not 90 USD!!!!!
Breakfast was not a breakfast. Just one egg. A disgrace. We were told that maybe we could have had a better one by staying one more night.
No swimming pool, nothing…
This place is just a tourist trap !

This hotel is situated at the edge of the village about 1.5km East of Borobudur temple. The location is very green and peaceful, presumably more for a romantic getaway than as a family location. The property consists of bungalows split into rooms, one side having junior suite rooms and another side having the smaller rooms which so many visitors complain about their size. The junior suite is much more reasonable and peaceful due to the separate location from the other standard rooms and much less frequented.
The gardens are peaceful and well kept with a number of staff just dedicated to the gardens all day long. The central lobby is well located as a meeting place with the rest of the residents. At around 4pm daily, a tea/coffee gathering is organised on a voluntary basis and free for all. Additionally some local snacks as also served as a compliment.
The staff are very helpful and do their best to assist you in whatever needs they can, though this comes at a price since the cost is fairly higher than the street value it goes around. Presumably they get their fair share from the drivers they hire which seem to be the same regularly, since I stayed 3 days here and asked a couple of times for a driver to take me around town.
There is also a restaurant on site which has some very good local dishes. This also comes at a price since to me the prices seem at least double the prices you find around town. I still opted to dine every day of my stay even knowing that i'm being somehow ripped off, because in any way you'll still get it either from the hotel or else get ripped off by the tuk-tuk drivers, so staying in means at least no effort in haggling on prices.
The rooms are clean and top condition though it is slightly prices compared to other options around. The hotel doesn't have a spa but a masseuse is called in for this job which seems very busy and need to book well in advance. Her name is Mona and her massage at about 150,000Rp per hour must be one of the best ever i've had throughout Asia. She regulates her hands to surgical precision and whether you ask for soft, medium or hard massage she does exactly that. The price is average throughout Java and Bali.
Overall I recommend this place, though you need to be slightly careful about prices for additional services you request from the staff. All visitors are treated as cash cows and might easily get ripped off for no reason other than making some money on the side. The hotel car is quite expensive at 300,000Rp to take you to Jogjakarta Airport at 4AM like I had to do, so better go around town shopping for options if you need such an early start.

Loved my stay at Rumah Boedi. The staff were overwhelmingly friendly and the hotel itself beautiful. I loved biking down country road past bucolic rural Java to get around. As per other reviews, the least expensive rooms are quite small ("cosy" one might say; "you get what you pay for" another might say), but I didn't find the small room to in any way be a detriment. Plus, even the smallest rooms have a private, mini gardenette to hang out in. Definately one of my favourite charming hotels in Java.

Its a shame, it's a lovely place but with 1 main piece of luggage each plus a day sac each, there was absolutely nowhere to put our things. There is no cupboard to even slightly unpack, just some very unpractical shelving & a very small area to put a bag; you cannot even store luggage under the bed. Feels a bit cramped, which is a shame.

We were pleasantly surprised by the rooms. It was better than expected. Staffs there were definitely friendly. What tops it most was that the owner was so accommodating and friendly. Thank you for the help you’ve given and the healing you’ve provided.
Will definitely recommend if you’re in Yogyakarta for vacation!

The receptionist is very friendly and was able to answer my questions in English without communication problems. He was also very kind to assist us with our requests. The place is peaceful, with music playing in the background. It has big yards where customers can roam, rest and enjoy the nature. It is next to Kali Progo, and near to Elo Rafting adventure. Its location is right at the end of the village, so having your GPS on is a good idea, in case your Grab driver gets lost too. It is approximately 30mins walk to Candi Borobudur, but only 5mins by car. There's no restaurant nearby, so food is mainly available in the in-house restaurant...and the food is affordable and tasty!
