This was our first trip to the DR and we wanted to avoid the large all-inclusive resorts. My husband and I stayed 6 nights with our 14 year old daughter. We stayed in an independent villa with a small plunge pool. We flew into Santa Domingo and hired a diver, Marcos, who Sarah arranged. I would highly recommend doing this. We was an excellent, safe driver and spoke perfect English, but also was very kind in letting me practice my Spanish. He was very tolerant in listening to and answering my husband’s multitude questions. The food at the hotel was very good. We also enjoyed having a kitchen to cook our own breakfasts as needed. It is a short walk to a very lovely beach with calm waters (Playita). A short walk to restaurants and shops if you need to buy groceries or essentials. One day we took an ATV ride to Playa Rincon and Playa Bremmen. I rode with Alfredo from the hotel and my husband and daughter rode on another ATV. Would also recommend doing this day trip. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly, professional, and kind. It would serve you well to know a little Spanish, but all the staff were very patient with my limited Spanish. We felt very safe in the hotel, in the town of Las Galeras, walking to the beach and also at all the beaches. Sarah, the owner was a delight to work with. I didn’t catch everyone’s names, but also enjoyed Alfredo and Luis Miguel. Beautiful grounds and very friendly people everywhere we went.

Chalet Tropical is a very quiet and charming place. The little huts are nicely decorated with a lot of love and care for nature. You think you are in the middle of a jungle and still you have all the facilities like wifi, fan and the possibility to turn on aircondition. Sarah, the owner, is very helpful with all information you need. Grazie per tutto 😘! We will definitely come again!

Chalet Tropical is an impressive achievement in design and décor both inside and out; the combined effect creates a truly magical atmosphere. The charming, individually color-themed rooms are carefully decorated in detailed matching accents (ours was red). The tropical-rustic wood furniture and rough stone bathroom are a pleasing, eclectic blend: think Swiss Family Robinson meets Gilligan’s Island meets the Flintstones. The cozy, air-conditioned room was completely waterproof. We know, because not a single drop of the sometimes-torrential rain that fell for nearly the entire time we were here made its way in. Because of the rain, we did not use the small but deep private plunge pool in the lovely courtyard. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well on and off through a loud thunderstorm. The electrical outlets and switches were a little temperamental and one gave off obvious sparks. There was a mini-kitchen with cooktop, coffee, and tea but we didn’t use it. It frankly looked dangerous. A large jug of drinking water with a pump top was provided, and the wifi was decent. We ate dinner and breakfast here because for whatever reasons, six restaurants we tried in the neighborhood the only night we were here were all closed. Dinner was okay; breakfast was better. Service was excellent both times; all of the staff we met were very nice. We did not meet the host. I know the lush grounds were cultivated to give a jungle feel, but please trim the branches over the pathways. Where we had to push through overgrown shrubs and branches on the path to access the room or reception area, water showered down upon us each time. It was already a struggle to stay dry! Overall, though, this place is unique and delightful. We would definitely stay here again, especially with our grandkids.

The ambiance at Chalet Tropical is utter tranquility -- complete with lush landscaping: think hibiscus, banana trees and passion fruit vines, a meandering pool, and well situated hammocks. Chalet Tropical is a hidden oasis, yet is located within walking distance to town and several breathtaking beaches. The hostess, Sarah, is warm and attentive, and is always ready to facilitate any adventure you conjure up. We can't wait to visit again!

Aesthetically pleasing but bed bugs were constantly eating up my wife during our 2 night stay. Bed sheets also smelled very musty. Hot water went out very quickly. Also they kept getting out breakfast orders wrong

Response from sarah paradiso, Owner at Chalet Tropical Bio-Hotel
Responded 10 Mar 2021
I'm sorry to read this review from you, Angelo, even if I'm not surprised, as it comes right after I did not accept the "deal" to buy some video from you (my apologies, not my guilty if I'm used to receiving them for free, from some big-influencers of local Dominican market, who consider Chalet Tropical as their 2nd home when they get to Las Galeras). Before that, anything was fine, and your last wife's message was "we had a great time, and will let a wonderful review"... even I felt a bit uncomfortable when you left without paying the bill for the 4-wheel rental and of a dinner, but I thought it was just forgetfulness, as I had the chance to cover it with your wife's credit card. Nobody complained of bed-bugs, as mattresses are new in the Chalet-Bungalows... just please remember you had a late stay on the beach, and there could have been some sand-bugs. The hot water only occasionally goes down for water-pressure reasons. For the breakfasts, we did our best, but please note that your orders had always "extras" marked and they were always different from our 8 selections of different breakfasts. That's said, I'm really sorry you felt offended, it was not my intention... it was just a different marketing point of view.

Wow. I was blown away by the beauty of this place. Absolutely gorgeous setting .Rooms decor its so unique unlike anything else I've seen and I traveled the world. Within minutes from the most gorgeous beaches in the Dominican Republic. I was a little skeptical about bringing my kids. Sarah went above and beyond to make sure we had everything and my kids had a blast. Any request you may have all you have to do is text her and she will make it possible. Food was delicious. Cannot wait to comeback for a longer stay. If you want to be treated like royalty without spending a fortune this is the place to go.

I've traveled around the world and stayed in some amazing hotels and resorts; this is by far the best experience and service I've had and is not even close. First class service, the place is clean and the concept is so unique. The food is so so tasty and fresh and cooked to your liking. Location: within 15 minutes of at least 3 of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Sarah and William provide service that can only compare to the Ritz-Carlton.

Just returned from a 2-day stay here in one of their bungalow (orange, though I think most are similar). Everything in the hotel was very clean and staff wore masks and kept social distancing at all times which made us feel safe. The space was very practical... big bed with a couch, small but very functional kitchen including all the essentials (including coffee, sugar and salt - details). The bath is actually a separate toilet and a wonderfully clever cascade shower. Just outside there’s a small porch with a dining table and in front of the bungalow your very own jacuzzi with waterfall. We had a two-meal plan (breakfast and dinner) which is a fantastic deal... you order from a menu through whatsapp and say the time you’d like it delivered and that’s it... the food was delicious and always on time... and here’s an example of going out the way to serve customers... we had ordered dinner for 7 PM... at 6:45 it started to rain, a lot... they’d be perfectly justified to be late on delivering our dinner but they were not, they were right on time and dinner (mofongo with shrimp) was delicious... it’s attention to details like this that make a difference. One more thing about breakfast... the homemade mango jelly with homemade coconut flour bread!! Amazing. There are two beaches within walking distance, la playita and playa grande, but the best of the two by far is la playita which is also the closest at no more than 10 minute walk. Overall a wonderful experience made even more special by the lovely proprietor, Sarah, who is helpful and all around nice.
