This was the third time I have stayed here. Should have done a review last year! Ray is the perfect host. She has a very warm welcome, offers the most delicious breakfast and can give great advice about Stonehaven. Both rooms have a great view over the harbour and the shared bathroom is very spacious and modern. I look forward... More

Rae was a delightful hostess who exudes warmth. We arrived late but she was gracious. We had a little difficulty finding the B&B because it is off the "main" drag, but is right on the harbor which is very quaint. We had a room with 2 single beds which were comfortable with a well appointed bath across the hall (with... More

we stayed one night on way to Aberdeen for daughters graduation and was soooo worthwhile. We had the twin room which was gorgeous and the view was something special. The hosts were lovely and able to provide lots of info about Stonehaven, including the micro brewery at the Marine Hotel...which went down a treat. The breakfast was lovely..special mention to... Stonehaven is a lovely little town on the coast of Scotland and Craig-ma-Cair offers an exceptional stay in the town. Overlooking the harbor, the well appointed rooms on the third floor offer beautiful views of the harbor. Our welcome was very friendly and we were shown to our room and given suggestions about what to do for the evening in... More

I stayed as part of a cycle tour. The downstairs hallway was obviously being renovated, as it did not reflect the high standard of decoration in the single room that I had, nor the shared bathroom. The view over the Harbour was idyllic, and there was TV and Internet in the room along with tea/ coffee making facilities. The room... More

Very nice B&B which is beautifully situated overlooking Stonehaven Harbour. Comfortable room, generally quiet and great breakfast! Worth pointing out that the rooms are up two flights of stairs so keep your case light! Also, a wide array of restaurants BUT booking in advance is essential. Do visit Aunty Betty's Ice Cream Shop, near to the caravan park. Open until... More

I would highly reccommend this harbour-side B&B. We stayed for 3 nights and were made to feel very welcome. The rooms are bright, cosy, comfortable and spotlessly clean and with the bonus of a wonderful view. The power shower in the bathroom is fantastic!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Craig-ma-Cair means "rock of the fort". Our House was named after the huge rock that obstructed the Stonehaven Harbour entrance centuries ago. The house was built in 1896 to accommodate the herring industry and was set up as dwelling rooms on the first and second floors and a general merchant's shop on the ground floor. Ray's family bought the house in 1951 and their background is fishing. There is a poem dedicated to her Dad (Johnny Watt) hanging in The Tolbooth Museum on the Old Pier and on the stairway at Craig-ma-Cair which gives you an indication of the character he was. Husband Raymond runs the Shell Hoosie on the ground floor and there you can treat yourself to a tasty ice cream and browse around the varied display of nautical giftware. ... more   less
