I stayed at El Refugio for a couple of nights and even extended my stay. The staff was really friendly. The location is great as you can see in the photos, the mountains surround the place which is breathtaking.

Just a superb place to stay. Just 5 min from Chivay, in a small canyon next to the river, this hotel offers a lovely hotspring, 2 other swimming pools, and coisy rooms. Do explore the region, like Ñaupallacta near the village of Tuti, or walk to Uyo Uyo from Coporaque trough the Inca countryside. Afterwards one can chill and relax back at El Refugio, ideal for a 3 or 4 days vacation.

On arrival, very impressed with location, check in was efficient, very disappointed when we got to the rooms, very basic, no tea/coffee facility, no bottled water in rooms, ensure that you have enough provisions, as the hotel is a distance from the town/shops. The views from the room were amazing though. Meals in the restaurant were ok, breakfast was ok as well.

We stayed at El Refugio for a couple of nights while visiting Colca. The staff was lovely, friendly and so helpful. We had problem with the agency arranging our trip and the reception staff did everything to help us in getting in contact with the correct people and helped with translation as well. They also gave us free dinner! Thank you so much for all your help.

We stayed here for one night on our 13 day tour of Peru. Yes it is a fair bit out of town and steep to get down to - but its worth it. It is peaceful and tranquil. We did use the on site thermal pool which was very enjoyable. The restaurant was good as was the food and drinks. The only drawback we found was the rooms are not heated. There is only an inadequate heater, so when it gets below freezing the heater is all but useless. This hotel has so much it could offer but doesn't. If they got the rooms heated better it would make it so much more enjoyable.Despite the heating issue, I would recommend this hotel especially its quirkiness.
