Hotel's Favourite
We planned over a period of 2 years a super wedding for my son in the Maldives.
To my horror, the resort Sun Siyam cancelled our fully PAID reservation 3 days prior to departure, as a result from non payment to them by the intermediate local travel agent.
A blessing in disguise that STEPPES ,a very high performance UK travel agency, looked after us personally and recommended Anantara Veili.
In the matter of 24 hours the Anantara Veli management organized the most perfect beach wedding ever...
They upgraded us to delux water villas and ensured that the 3 villas were next to each other.
On arrival
We were welcomed into the comfortable Anantara airport lounge and after 5 mins whisked away on a 20 mins fast speedboat trip to our paradise.
From the moment I laid eyes on the resort I knew that we had landed in heaven on earth. ..
We were assigned the most wonderful, efficient, gentle , smiling, courteous butler called RIFAU.
He looked after my whole family and I crown him King of Concierge... a magnificent chap who along with Hannif and Disney streamlined the wedding preparation.
I loved our spotlessly clean villa with a beautiful view of blue lagoon and an unspoilt view of an uninhabited island..
I would swim over to it every morning for a little walk before the fabulous b fast in Cumin.
Being an adult only island ,we were cocooned with peace and quiet...
The other resort islands were connected by a 1 mins gentle small ferry boat..
the drivers were brilliant, polite and courteous.
The 7 restaurants were just top notch.
Sea, Salt and fire was my favourite for lunch.
Hanu, was our kind waiter who looked after us daily. He is the brother of Hannif., an other super chap.
Cumin was also another favourite of ours.. delicious authentic Indian food...on the terrace al fresco beside the sea surf...music to my ears .
Bokey looked after us there and also in the morning . His recommendations were great.
Faz, a super fun lady of the Dhoni bar restaurant took special care of me, especially with the champagne!! She would keep a nice cold bottle ready on ice !!
The lads in the Dhoni bar need a special mention especially Shafi.. they were all great.
Maath in the Thai restaurant also deserves a mention for her sweet nature .
Jaylo ,also made us welcome and ready to help with photographs etc.
Asif was our housekeeper...he was wonderful. He kept our villas SPOTLESS... Came twice a day and he helped make up the room for their wedding night spectacularly. Flower petals everywhere , even in the BATH!!
The wedding was spectacular, drummers, fresh flower arrangements , photos... Rifau took loads and also a video...
A special mention also to the official photographer who has made an album fit for" Hello "magazine ...
My favourite day spot for lying out in the sun was Picnic island . The bartender Azam( hope I have the name right) took special care of me... kept my favourite sun lounger and drink ready for my arrival...I felt like royalty.
It's a beautiful little island close to the house reef.
A good spot to snorkel in .
Also ,there was a life guard on duty so one felt very safe and brave ...
it was a great island for more photo shots on the sand bank .
Unfortunately, I did nt meet GM Mr Michael Parker as I really want to THANK him for looking after us .
I conclude this review with gratitude to all the staff for giving us such a dream wedding, holiday and family honeymoon!!!!!

Just returned from a dream trip to the Maldives! Bottom line up front: ignore the negative reviews and just go!
We had an amazing time at Anantara Veli. We spent 4 nights in an overwater deluxe bungalow with pool and were really, really thrilled with our room. It was comfortable, well appointed, and perfectly clean. We loved the private deck with the pool and spent hours relaxing on our deck. We saw sharks and sting rays and fish right off our deck, and the pool was pristine. The room itself was great; the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was lovely, and Adam did an amazing job keeping it beautiful and adding little touches throughout our stay. Our sunset view was also beautiful every day.
The food was excellent. We loved having the option of eating at Anantara Dhigu; every meal was great. We had one buffet included in our package, and although we generally don't love buffets, we were so happy with the Old Continent buffet night. We had a great dinner at Baan Huraa, and had the best table where we could see sharks and fish swimming by. Same goes for dinner at Seafire Salt on Anantara Dhigu-- from our table we saw many sharks swimming by. And highly recommend dinner at Origami; the tempura shrimp, teriyaki beef skewers, and yuzu cheesecake were all super delicious. Breakfast was excellent every day; the Maldivian crepe with banana and coconut jam was like dessert and i ate the entire thing. :) The staff at the restaurants were all excellent, as well. Prices are steep, but it's the Maldives. It's to be expected.
We appreciated the use of snorkel gear and kayaks. Although we only went to Picnic Island once to snorkel, we liked having that option. We saw tons of fish and even a few squid. But truthfully, we saw the most just walking on the overwater walkways! The water is clearer than any aquarium; we even saw a large octopus, which was incredible.
Spa services are not to be missed. We opted for the spa on Anantara Dhigu because we wanted to try the overwater option; having a massage while watching the fish through the floor will spoil me for every massage in the future. The treatment itself was excellent, but wow, what a great experience. :)
We had the most relaxing time. Mo took great care of us, helping with dinner arrangements, and got us into our room when we arrived which was so appreciated, since we'd flown overnight. We had an amazing time at Anantara, and are so grateful we had the opportunity to go. Many thanks to the staff for the excellent service. I hope we have an opportunity to go again someday!

Exceptional! Look no further if you want perfection. Anantara is the definition of the perfect holiday. I have been coming to Anantara since 2008, but have tried other resorts in between. Nothing has measured up to Anantara or has even come close.
Anantara and the Maldives have done a great job of welcoming guests safely and still opening up tourism. There is hardly any feeling of a pandemic going on here and yet every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of guests and staff. So very happy to have made the choice to come and vacation in the Maldives!
The people are one of the main reasons we keep coming back. Thaaif handled my bookings back in 2008 and is still with the Company but in a different role. He treats us like family and is always so thoughtful. Imthy, the GM is superb! He is always around to make sure everything is perfect and if there is anything over and above that is required he will personally make sure it gets taken care of. Kaamal who works in the dhoni bar area has been here since 2008 or longer. Still remembered my name and is so attentive. Antionne and Adam ( all of them actually) in the watersports are wonderful and so friendly. We have only been here for a few days and have had some of the best dives ever!
The food and restaurants. Amazing! There is something for everyone and the quality of the food is to die for. We frequent all of the restaurants equally depending on what our taste buds are demanding. All of consistently excellent food and service.
The rooms. We are currently staying in 205 Ocean pool Bungalow. Wow! Private pool, unobstructed views of the Indian Ocean and 5 star bathroom with a outdoor shower and another facing the Indian Ocean. Very spacious, super fast and reliable wifi and all the amenities you could ask for.
The lagoons and the water are teaming with life and in my opinion the clearest I've seen in the Maldives.
Thank you Anantara for everything! Only giving credit when credit is due.

We just had an amazing break here, what a treat (especially in 2020 !) to be able to come to this island which is truly paradise. one of the reasons we chose it was because it’s a short boat journey from Male airport only around 25 minutes. We received the most wonderful welcome with traditional drum playing and the staff had arranged early check in for us to go straight to our amazing water Villa. The crystal Clear smooth waters and the beautiful sea life that we watched swimming by every day and whilst snorkeling Makes it so tranquil. Also the fabulous massages and treatments in the spa I love the fact that the spa is also in Watervillas and as you look down through your massage bed , there is a glass inlay in the floor beneath so you can see the fish swimming underneath the Villa as you take a massage ... paradise ! The floating breakfast was the most fantastic breakfast we have ever tasted and the experience of having this in our pool looking out to see was just unforgettable. All of the staff were wonderful, so friendly and helpful but we have to mention Preshan who really made our stay perfect he treated us like family and went over and above for us. also to our room boy Shiraz for the fantastic job that you did.

Naturally was looking very forward to our first trip to Maldives. We arrived and were pleased that Anantara had a dedicated waiting room for guests at the airport. Waiting for an hour for other guests to arrive was not what we expected and was rather frustrating.
The Maldives has stunning natural beauty and arriving to the island we had grand hopes. The reefs are spectacular. On arrival we were greeted and taken to our room. I couldn’t have been more disappointed. The room looked like something out of an 90’s holiday resort. Really worn down and tacky. Here are some observations:
1. Rips in the fabric headboard
2. Controls driven by early 2000’s technology
3. Generally worn fixtures and fittings and just really disappointing
4. The wooden walkways to the room were old, tired and squeaky
5. The air con noise was very visible
6. The air con is on the outside and in almost all the rooms as you walk past you can see panels missing
Just not what you expect. Also all of the restaurants were just tacky and I’ll come to the food shortly. I asked one of the waiters when the place was last renovated. He couldn’t remember and it was obvious that not for a very long time.
We ate at all the restaurants:
1. Sea Salt Fire - not bad but nothing amazing. We ate here twice
2. Origami - hands down the worst Japanese food you will ever eat. On the first night they tried to make us opt for the buffet at 150pp. When we ate there it only cost us 170 for both of us al la carte.
3 Thai, not bad but again nothing mind blowing
4. Dhoni Bar - basic bar food again nothing to write home about
The menus in all the places seemed very similar so you felt you were eating the same thing again and again. Just not inspiring at all. Maldives is naturally costly and rightly so but seriously, the quality of food must match the price tag. Also breakfast was the same everyday.
Towels and water bottles were left by the sun loungers all day and night. The towels were also very old and ripped.
All the restaurants just seemed so dated and the service was nothing like you would get in Thailand, Bali or India.
The water and snorkelling was the best part of the trip. We had a good time in our company but the food and resort was a big let down.
Maybe I should have researched better and paid more to stay somewhere more exclusive.
The reviews on here are amazing and I wondered why. It was clear. If you come here for a once in a lifetime trip the chances are you will feel this place is amazing. If you are a seasoned traveller and this place is just another holiday, you will be bitterly disappointed.

I would like to thank Anantara Veli for the great stay offered in Jan 2021.
We were super pleased with the Overwater Bungalow. The bungalow was super clean. It was quiet - no disturbing boat noise as I read in other reviews. I liked the snorkeling possibles around the bungalow too.
The location of the resort is great - only 30 min away from the airport by boat. Very convenient if you want to maximize the time spent there. The facilities are beautiful. Lots of areas for relaxing and sunbathing. I love the complimentary yoga class in the morning with a beautiful sunrise view. I found the place very COVID-19 safe. All the staff wear masks and the interaction with the other tourists is very minimal.
The meal plan is amazing. The resort offers “A la carte” menu in fine dinning restaurants. It’s really worth it to have the All Inclusive package. We actually took the Premium Beverage package added to the meal plan. It’s really worth it as otherwise the dinks can be very expensive (The last thing you want to worry about when you are there is “how much does this cost?”)
The staff of the Dhoni Bar were extremely polite and friendly. They were very attentive and always ready to assist. Kamal and Shafeq (I hope I got the name correct) made out stay wonderful. They helped us to celebrate my birthday in a nice setting and atmosphere.
Bella (from reception) was also helpful and always ready to assist.
Thank you all for a great stay! Would love to come back soon!

From the begining to the end everything was perfect!
Every single person at Anatara is very attentive and gentil.
Food is absolutely amazing...from breakfast to dinner (Sea Fire Salt is a 10/10)!
Rooms are gourgeous, cosy and perfectly cleaned every single day (sometime twice a day).
And off course the place is magical...the cristal clear water, the white sands and the sun are remarkable, it is hard to explain how beautfull is this place!

We went for our 15th wedding anniversary to Anantara Veli, it being an adult only resort et all. From the moment we went through immigration at Male Airport we were greeted by a staff member from Anantara and taken to their lounge at the airport itself where we were given a cold towel and water. The boat to the resort was comfortable and it only takes 30 minutes, so it’s over before you know it. At the resort You are greeted by a beat of drums and music being played by the staff and taken straight to your room instead of any pesky check inns. You’re given a short tour as well on the way to your room. We had booked a deluxe overwater bungalow which was absolutely amazing. The best I’ve ever stayed in in my life till now. There’s champagne on arrival waiting for You and we were given a bottle of champagne and a cake on our anniversary too. Thank You Anantara. Amazing food all abound, a lot of variety. A lot of activities to do, in the water or on land. We tried snorkelling ( of course ), a two person kayak and an underwater scooter called Seabob. Seabob was payable whereas the other two were free. And how can I not talk about the water. Wow !!! Absolutely clear pristine water, we saw so much of sea life, it’s a once in a life sort of experience.
So to sum it up if one is going to the Maldives, Anantara is a great great option. You really cannot go wrong. Thank You once again Anantara for making our wedding anniversary a special one 👍🙏

This luxxe resort is everything you can dream of. Over water bungalows overlooking crystal clear turquoise waters. Service, cuisines from several restaurants and ambience, just sublime. The ambiance was so relaxed and even though the resort was at full capacity, it still felt very secluded and private.
If you want to see some sealife, this is the place to be. On our four night stay we saw a baby turtle, baby shark, stingray and manta ray as well as numberous tropical fish and this was just outside our over water bungalow.
A few special mentions to staff who made our trip the most exceptional experience. First and foremost, Razeen and Imthy who greeted us at the dock. They stayed gracious throughout the whole trip and were always around to help and always willing to go above and beyond for any special requests we had.
At breakfast, Manik and Bokey were so attentive with lovely smiling faces.
Kamal at the pool bar was amazing. Always coming to check on us, fill drinks and take pictures.
Rabeeu our housekeeper and cleaned our room was so gracious and thorough. We always came back to an immaculately clean room and the simple things like leaving small notes on tropical flowers etc. He also did turn down services which made it so wonderful to come back to a neat and tidy bungalow, sheets turned down and slippers near the bed.
Andrea at Acqua bar was so lovely, attentive and we had some nice conversations with her.
Hida at front desk was also lovely and very helpful.
Marina doing yoga every morning was wonderful, giving lots of direction and very knowledgeable about breathing and yoga practices.
Murphy was amazing and able to give us a private experience on one of their islands with some lovely drinks and exceptional seafood.

Going to Anantara Veli gets you closer to heaven, for sure!
The property is amazing, super well maintained. And there's so much space you feel you are in a very exclusive hotel.
Rooms are serviced to perfection, and if you see anything needing refresh, they come right away. A special thanks to our room boy Imraan!
I loved the happy our by the pool. Pradeep will keep your drinks coming "very shortly!"
A special thanks to the staff at the Thai restaurant, Baan Huraa. We were quite late coming for diner, after closing hours, still they made sure we did not feel pressured to finish the meal and even stuck around to sing a happy birthday to my partner. Very kind of them.
Overall a dream holiday.

The deluxe over-water pool villas. These are the last 6 on the long jetty and have spectacular views over the ocean. We were told by our host that these are the newest villas on the island and they have a bit bigger floor plan. It feels like you’re the only ones there!
All the over water villas have a sunset
