Nestled near a tranquil beach and just a walk from Tamarindo, Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas garners appreciation for its serene yet prime location. Guests often commend the clean, spacious rooms and the overall restorative atmosphere of the property, set within a lush, green backdrop. It is not the first time here and it just keeps getting better with every visit!

My husband and I have traveled quite a bit and agreed this is our favorite place to stay in all of Costa Rica!!

Our first day, we were greeted with smiles and popsicles on a very warm day.

Once we entered our room they then guided us to the free happy hour sunset at the beach. Their Natural juice with coconut rum. 🏖️

The staff treats you like family! Andres, Jeremy, Charlie, Jeffrey, Tania and Angela are just a few that made our week better than we anticipated with their infectious personalities and knowledge of the amazing menu the hotel offers. The chefs heard and met our requests which made the service top notch!

The rooms were cleaned every day so when we arrived from the beach or excursions our room felt very comfortable!

The grounds were impeccable and we
enjoyed walking thru the hotel to bird watch and say hi to the kitties who live here. We were also very entertained by the monkeys.

I can honestly say I am not a cat lover however I sure did bond with them before we left home.

Every morning we were greeted with smiles and the buffet breakfast was something to look forward to with so many choices.

We took advantage of the free sound bath session which made the end of our trip beautiful!

Transportation is very convenient as
The hotel does pick you up from the Liberia Aiport and offers shuttle
Service for $6 to the main town where you will enjoy various shops,
restaurants and bars. If
You like to walk it was not arduous at all.

We were sad to leave but look forward to returning. Thank you to EVERYONE at Cala Luna.

Tus palabras realmente llenaron nuestros corazones.

My wife and I had a truly exceptional experience staying here. It’s an oasis that feels far away from the crowds of Tamarindo when in fact it’s very centrally located. The local surf breaks are all right here making this a perfect destination for discerning surf travellers who appreciate good food and wine as well as luxury accomodations.
All of the staff were attentive to our every need 24/7 in such a personable friendly way.
The dining is incredible with organic farm to table produce prepared by one of Costa Rica’s best chefs. Eating all of our meals here left us feeling nourished and refreshed. Special thanks to Walter, Danny, Charlie, Andres, Andrea, Jose, and all of the other staff who made us feel like family. We will be back!

It was a stay to celebrate our anniversary, and my wife loved it; happier I couldn't be. A place to relax, spend good time as a couple, eat rich, romantic. The beach with luxury sunset a few steps away. Yoga in the morning, Sound bath in the evening. The perfect room, we were treated very well.
Usually ticos say vacationing in CR is expensive, but this was a first world experience that you don’t so easily live in any other resort; it was worth every penny.

Cala Luna was overall a lovely stay. The service was phenomenal. Eddy went out of his way to arrange a jet ski session and was super responsive. The rooms were high quality with beautiful modern design and were clean. The location was just far enough away from the city center hustle bustle which was very relaxing. The sunset cocktail hour was a lovely perk.

Some cons were limited breakfast options, food prices were too high (almost price gouging), transportation options into town were too expensive, beach was rocky/not swimmable, and free water was not provided in rooms. The bar at the pool closed at 5pm which seemed too early.

We are currently here. We checked in and were told that everything could be found on the in room tablet. We tried to see our options but the tablet only stays charged for 1 minute and is dead. If this is how you find out things at the resort they should provide a tablet that has been tested before arrival. Next we wanted a shower in the shower bath tub. The shower adjustment nob fell off the wall and a spring fell out of the wall. No bath ability to use the bath. That evening at dinner we were seated incorrectly and had to move after being initially seated. Next we asked for a wine list. It took 2 times to get the list. We asked for more water (it is hot here) and had to ask 3 times to receive it. This morning at breakfast a server asked if I would like coffee. I said yes but it never came. My wife asked for milk for her coffee 3 times and the server was not pleased. Today we returned to our room and the broken shower was still in pieces. There also was not hot water. As of now, the shower is broken and the information tablet does not work. At the cost for this hotel, checking that your access to hotel information should have been checked before our arrival. The shower/bath is still broken. Possibly the problem was not addressed because the shower was not cleaned. Way too much money for broken equipment and poor service.

It was an alright hotel. I stayed for 4 days, 3 nights They advertise La senda as a must visit destination but only offer on Mondays and Thursdays , they canceled it the day I arrived with no notice which really let me down because it was my birthday stay and I booked this hotel mainly because of that. Yoga is also advertised as something the offer constantly but it’s only once a day at 7 am … You need to also call and let them know about things you dislike because they reply slowly through email/don’t acknowledge your requests. I constantly mentioned that I’m non-alcoholic and there shouldn’t be any alcohol in the room and they still had alcohol in the room when I arrived. The front desk staff, Monica , Alex , Karol, Eddy are very nice, and that is what I will give most of my stars to. They surprised me with an amazing chocolate cake once they found out it was my birthday and I really appreciate them for doing that. but in my opinion it’s not the most luxurious place I’ve been and it’s pretty boring in my opinion. There isn’t a diverse dinner selection and if you’re staying multiple days it will get boring. There is a walkway directly to the beach so it is great to see the sunsets! I loved that. They also offer golf carts for $65 a day, this is A MUST. But let them know over the phone because I mentioned that I wanted one a week before arrival when it was offered and then when I got there they told me they don’t know if they have any because “high season”. I still got one but they just need to be more prompt and organized because you’re paying $2,100+ to stay and do the excursions they can be a little more professional in my opinion so I feel good about money spent.

we very much enjoyed our stay. we had a suite and it was roomy and comfortable. On first morning we were awoken at 5 by the Howler Monkey's but after that they usually made noise in the day or evening. The breakfast buffet is outstanding - everything is house made and delicious. We also at at the Origin restaurant for dinner and it was terrific. The toiletries are of very poor quality so we used our own. The sunscreen actually didnt work and i burned. The beach is great and a short walk. It is rocky but lovely. the beach chairs are just chairs and not lounges. downtown is a 25 minute walk or and $8/group ride in a house called taxi. The return home usually is a long wait though.

A beautiful hotel with lots of amenities but needs some updating. The casitas could use some refreshing and ants and spiders in the bathrooms. The grounds were lush but gardening not really kept up. The pool was nice but not spectacular. I was just underwhelmed. I would also advise going to another beach like CoCo Beach because Tamarindo is soooo crowded and touristy. We rented a golf cart to take us to town because the walk was a long ways in the heat. The best thing we did was call Ready Eddie Tours on Facebook. He picked up our family of 6 and took us 30 min away to go ATV riding, then to a local restaurant and then to Coco beach and a chocolate factory. We saw monkeys and visited with locals, and ate fruit from a fruit stand. This was by far the best day away from all the craziness of the city. We did eat dinner one night at the hotel and it was very good - around $200 for a family of 6. Breakfast was a beautiful buffet. Bring lots of $1, $5, $10 because everyone wants a tip. They accept US dollars.

My family (wife and two boys, 14 and 17) had a great time here. It was a great escape after spending 7 more energetic days in Arenal and Monteverde. The pool is great and wasn't crowded (due to rainy season, maybe?). Food was good if a bit pricy, and the service was excellent: the Carols and Fabienne (spelling probably wrong, sorry) at the front desk, Walter at the bar and everyone else. The free happy hour cocktail of the day (and virgin versions for kids) was a nice touch and something to look forward to every day, and given the overall price it's a bonus that the staff brings down and sets up beach umbrellas for you, free of charge. We saw monkeys and a coati on site, which was fun. Rooms are big and have a ginormous bath tub. The walk to the beach is very short, though it can be a bit smelly after a storm as it's alongside a creek. The beach felt surprisingly secluded (it's around a bend from the more popular Tamarindo Beach); try to time it right before or after high tide, as it's easier to swim without running into the big black rocks then. At low tide you can still get in and wade but you may want to wear water shoes then. Getting into town is about a 15-20 min walk and the first block can be very muddy (I didn't think it was so bad, but my family complained, so we used taxis after that.) Overall a great experience. Wish we were still there!

We were greeted in a mediocre way, and were not made to feel particularly special, more of just a normal check-in and off you go.

We were not given a hotel map and that would have been a nice touch. There were a lot of things that are standard in hotels, even cheap ones, and this one lacked, even though it’s supposed to be a boutique hotel and expensive at that.

We even had to sign a waiver if we took the products from the room on check in which was poor. Made me feel like a criminal before we’d even got to the room. Any hotel bills you afterwards for anything that is taken, so this was strange.

We stayed in the private pool villa, which was a mistake for 2 people, and the big kitchen was completely unstocked for use.

For example:
No moisturizer in the rooms
No robes or slippers (cool floors - especially when raining)
No bluetooth speaker anywhere so it was silent the whole time
The pool area should be private, and was not. You could be seen from 3 sides easily.
Kitchen had NOTHING to cook with, on or ANY utensils to cook with either. Ridiculous.

There was a complimentary 5pm happy hour that was supposed to be each day. There was never one, and I saw other guests, like me hovering around the restaurant/bar area for this. We all dispersed back to our rooms each time as felt awkward asking. Poor.

For the price this place is, We were very disappointed and would not go back there. Pretty, rough coastline (not really swimmable there) and lovely breakfasts, but that was it.

Also worth noting that this is not on the beach and a long walk to town. They offer rides for $5 each way, but this should be complimentary based on their location and price.

We were sad we didn’t stay where we were staying previously, and wished we hadn’t left the jungle area.

Won’t go back.

The hotel offers several excursions, but you are only a short walk from the town centre, where you will get a bigger choice. They offer “off roading” vehicles, but that’s not for us (too noisy). We did sea kayaking, which was great, but our particular favourite was kayaking in the mangroves, spotting the wildlife. Even if you’ve never kayaked before, give it a go, you’ll love it. Hope you have a great trip.

Hey there. We have US phones and did not purchase an international plan. Others in our party were able to text, but not sure of the phone services. The hotel allowed us a few calls as needed which was all we had planned. Internet was great and messenger from Facebook worked fine with the wifi.
