Thanks for your review. The wildlife around Amazon Refuge is superior to any areas closer to Iquitos. You have to be up for a 5-6 hour trip to get there and back but it is well worth the effort as you pointed out. The food...More
I did a lot of research before deciding on a tour operator and it still didn't prepare me for my trip. I had a great time and the place was amazing. But firstly a few things... If you don't like camping, hate bugs, frogs or...More

Many thanks for your in depth review. It is great that you pointed out the need to be prepared for the inconveniences as well as the spectacular majesty of the jungle. Many lodges closer to Iquitos offer more of an eco-light experience which for many...More
We did a 3 night / 4 days tour with our guide Wilder and his crew. It was an amazing experience, because Wilder really knows the amazon with the animals and plants, because he growed up in the jungle and his family still leaves their....More

Amazon Refuge is a remote eco-lodge with unsurpassed variety and abundance of wildlife. We have kayaks, dugout canoes and motorized canoes for exploring the hidden lakes and river. Trails up to 7km from the lodge to the black water Yarina Lake where there are a multitude of Macaws, a rookery for herons and other aquatic birds. Birders also come to see the Wattled Curassow only found near the Yanayacu River basin. We welcome researchers and adventurers to this remote haven.

For certain you will see sloths and blue and gold macaw. If you hike 7km to Yarina lake you will see macaws in the palm trees and around the lake in Kapok tree. Pink and grey dolphins are common at the mouth of the Yana Yacu River. I have seen dolphins 8 of 10 times I have been to Amazon Refuge and once in the high water season they came right under the bungalow. Amazon Refuge is a remote jungle lodge with high ground and 130' canopy with no human outpost upriver from the lodge it is a pristine area abundant in mammals, birds and fish.
