Nestled in a serene setting, Bahia Principe Grand Samana is often lauded for its tranquil atmosphere and picturesque beaches. While the rooms are generally celebrated for their cleanliness and views, there is feedback suggesting a need for refurbishment. The resort's 'all-inclusive' offering has come under scrutiny, with guests reporting additional charges that impact the perceived value. Amenities sometimes fall short of expectations due to limited availability, and while the remote location is admired, it comes with a quieter nightlife. Service quality appears inconsistent, though the resort's overall cleanliness is a highlight for many visitors.

A very relaxing stay. No real entertainment other than in the foyer every evening for a couple hours but we were totally good with that. It is a small resort with 149 rooms. It is adult only and very quiet. You definitely need to read the hotel outline to fully understand that it is not a party place. If you are looking for a relaxed stay by the pool or beach side, this is a place that will accommodate. I highly recommend the all inclusive deal unless you eat like a bird. Although the buffet was just okay, it was repetitive and recycled foods.. which is understandable in a 3rd world country. I loved how beautiful the resort is, the pool was wonderful and the staff were fantastic too. The only thing I was not overly impressed with was there were times when you could not get something to eat. The breakfast was available until 10 am and lunch started at noon till 4pm. Dinner started I believe at 6 or 7pm until 10pm. Nothing after that - no little snack bar. Room service was available from 11pm till 7am if you were on the All Inclusive plan only. Otherwise you pay. I think the resort could benefit from a little snack bar... just munchies or something. I brought my own. This resort is 15 minutes (cab ride) to Samana and if you are wanting to buy any kinds of snacks - you will pay dearly there. There is no real places to walk to from the resort itself and not recommended. I must say the rooms were very clean and the view was stunning. We had a balcony but not the suite and it was fantastic! If you go and love coffee but not strong coffee, bring your own and I thought a can of Carnation Milk in my checked in bag. So glad I did as the room has a coffee maker... that was our morning routine. Something else to consider, the beach is not a big beach... you can walk it in 3 minutes. There is many stairs to the beach so it is not good for anyone with mobility issues. There is not a beach bar and you have to come back to the pool bar to get drinks... just a heads up. US dollars and pesos are the best way to leave tips. 200 pesos are approximately $4.50 Canadian right now. Hope this review helps!

I loved my week, it was beautiful, peaceful as can be ;) very clean hotel and friendly employees. There is no wine under $60 US so bring your own wine 🍷
It’s not an all-inclusive…
I paid $1300 for a week with almost all inclusive…. It cost me $200 more for the lunch restaurant, small store and massage ;) really cheap! ;) lunch (perfect) and dinner (not great!) and for dinner it's a la carte at the restaurant and it's is very good. Good maid service I slept with the door open with the sound of the waves all week on the 3rd floor ♥️ We took a Buggy excursion to eat lobster for US$35 extra and visit Playa Rincon for US$130 each 😜 was worth it 😛 great week but don't forget It takes ALMOST EVERYTHING INCLUDED... otherwise you pay for your pepsi and your bottle of water in addition to dinner and dinner 😳🫤

This area is gorgeous and there were whales swimming past where we ate breakfast. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, as is the pool. Our room was spacious and comfy, though it was a little worn. This place is perfect for a very relaxed holiday reading by the pool. Not much of a nightlife and the location is very remote so you’re mostly on the resort. Food options are quite limited and not included in the package. They offered us fairly expensive addition for meals but thankfully our booking company, Air Transat offered us an addition of $100 for all of the meals and some drinks that was worth it. Kind of annoying, and the prices in the gift shop for sunscreen are outrageous. It didn’t have the feeling that I was really at an all inclusive when we had to worry about food, but the staff were lovely and it was an amazing place to be. The food was fine, though i found the lunch restaurant would leave something out of my order or take a very long time to make our food. It felt like they were running on slim margins but doinf their best. Our wifi wasn't working when we first arrived and we were starving and it took a lot to get food, but overall we really enjoyed our time. Learn some Spanish, it will really help you.

Compared to when we came with my family in 2022, the quality has dropped a lot. Starting from giving us a room that remained almost that on the ceiling, had no terrace to hang our bikinis / wet towels, we went to reception to ask if it was possible to pass us a room with terrace and we were told that we would have to pay more to have a room with terrace (something simple that should have every room) we did not accept, we asked if something could happen to hang clothes since we were 3 in one piece and there are only 2 chairs so we could not hang our wet bikinis, pool and bath towels, we were told that they had nothing.
Then the breakfast buffet is more or less poor but it is quite rich, Irineo is always at breakfast, it caters very well and is super attentive. For lunch you can only go to the snack and it is even less varied than the buffet. If you're hungry in the middle of the morning there's only the snack but it opens at 12.
The lobby bar is not open all day, it opens at 4pm, which I also think detracts from the points. There is also no beach bar, so if you are on the beach and want to have a drink you should go up to the pool. What is rescued is that the hotel is super clean, if you want to come to rest it is perfect because there are few people and almost no noise, and the beach without sargasso

I paid to leave 2 days early, as the food was unbearable, worse than a 3 star cuban resort, in fact, the worst food that I have ever had the displeasure of eating in my entire life. Beautiful « looking » resort and pool area. The beach is nice-ish. The rooms are decent, once you remove the plastic flowers out of site and the odd « feather boa carpet (looks like something you’d see in a seedy motel), however the pillows and bathtubs need dire replacing and re-caulking. The sheets and pillows smelt badly, as though they had not been changed. The restaurant area has no air conditioning and so it is very hot, and the buffet area has no ventilation and so, the place stinks of the greasy foods being «fried » there, as does everyone afterwards that eats in the place. Half of the staff look absolutely miserable, with one female bartender in particular, by the pool, that looked at the tourists with pure contempt. This resort will not survive, it is sad, however, of it’s own doing. Bahia Principe needs to send North American quality control personnel to that hotel to turn it around. Start with cooking less food, but, higher quality meals, and lose the fried foods from the menu. In addition, train the staff to provide customer service with a smile, to make the tourists feel welcome, enjoy their stay and want to return.

We live Full Time in the DR and full disclosure, I own boutique agency working with customers looking to vacation in DR. I often times am invited by hotels with so I can experience first hand but we also travel for fun and I do not always want to have to be "working" while traveling . We ended staying her for one night on our to another resort only accesible by boat.

What I loved about this hotel was the service. The staff were on PAR
and you can tell from the guests interactions the reason why people return

I think the property is unique in they offer AI and HB. We opted for HB meaning we had dinner and breakfast and drinks were not all inclusive. For us, it worked perfectly as I am discriminate drinker and I would 100% not drink the alocohol hidden under the bar that was part of AI plan. I was mistakenly served a Vodka Soda that brought make memories of Everclear in Freshman dorm,

Due to low occupancy, the hotel had one option for dinner which our night was the "Gourmet" Again at this price point, the travel professional in me was curious in what their intepretation of Gourmet was. I was not shocked by food quality.. it was as expected. Not great.

My husband Tuna Tartar was either cooked or old ( so not edible) , my camembert crunchy was basically deep fried skin of Camembert and no cheese. The $18 Upcharge for Salmon was a shocker. We live in Santo Domingo. and pay $18 for Salmom in the finest restaurants but I will say the cooked it very WELL DONE which is dream for any Dominican My steak was better than expected

Breakfast was fine- usual. Although the bacon very bad quality ( See my review on Bacon at their 5 star property - the Cayo Levantado Resort)

This is classic mid range hotel- at $ 250 a night AI in low season, the rooms are clean, large. great service, fun enviroment, but it is not 5 star or even 4 Plus based on food and alcohol choices

Upon arrival you learn that all inclusive is very a very misleading term here. There are two restaurants but you don’t have access to the all a carte for 5 of the 7 nights. They say you can pay extra for all a carte the other nights but you can’t reserve it in advance and it’s often fully booked. So it’s sometimes inclusive, not all inclusive. Wish I’d known before I wasted my time and money coming here.

Arrived by car. Was taken to the parking lot by the hotel butler, perfect. Hotel location good for trips to Las Galeras, Playa Rincon, Samana and Las Terrenas. Food very modest, buffet cold, brought out of the kitchen already lukewarm.
No willingness to warm up quickly, probably because otherwise everyone would come... Practically the same every day, boring. Snack restaurant very good, reasonable prices. Hotel service questionable: They didn't want to do anything for my wife's birthday! Although I was really friendly and stayed and would have been happy to pay extra. Apparently you had to register 24 hours in advance... Hello?? (By the way, I had already sent an email to the hotel about this 2 days before, but apparently it didn't reach anyone). They then said I could go and buy a cake myself... So 5-star hotel?? No comparison to Bahia Principe Bouganville in La Romana, where you can really enjoy excellent service. The room prices including breakfast and buffet were extremely discounted, it is unclear how this will work out in the future, I think it would be better to pay a little more and focus on quality. The Junior Suite Ocean View room in building F (street noise) would have been better, the Superior Ocean View in the main building. For a one-off short stay of 3 nights, it was just about bearable.

Certainly not a reflection of Bahia Principe. Awful house wine; À la carte restaurants closed 4 of 7 days; all inclusive still requires paying extra for some menu items; pool music not adapted to the crowd present; offers ‘day passes’ so place is invaded on weekends by loud party goers. Unfortunate for a 149 room resort catering mainly to n older crowd.

Breakfasts are great (other than synthetic OJ) but other meals are very ordinary, comparable to 4 or 5 star resorts in Cuba for much less. Hours of service are different than posted and advertised. Variety is very good with fruits readily available.

Personnel is excellent as are facilities, cleanliness and overall accommodations. As described, beach is small with very little shade available. Furniture in our room in need of repairs.

Look for better alternatives.

We visited end of Nov 2022 for our second visit here and after multiple visits to Bahai resorts. Bahia Luxury Samana is a small, isolated resort with a LOT of steps, suitable for a quiet adult get away. This beautiful resort is showing its age and also has suffered recent hurricane damage. The beach area, although still lovely has been reduced in size and the lovely pier where you could walk out to enjoy sunsets and more, and also served as a romantic dinner setting has been destroyed. They don’t advertise a beach bar, but there is one there with good drinks. No washrooms on the beach and it’s a long walk up the stairs to get to a bathroom.
There is a small pool as well on mid-level with plenty of chairs and some activities but no loud music or “in your face” animation team. Very pleasant to lounge here as well.
We found the food to be good, but very limited. Previous visit here was an extraordinary gastronomic experience, this time just ordinary. Everything was well prepared and presented but the small venue was getting very tired by the end of the week. We tried one alacart, the Rhodizio (Brazilian) and it was excellent. I suggest booking the alacartes to break up the monotony and repetition of the buffet.
The resort offers excellent service in all areas but as a whole is getting tired. Rooms need updates, although recently installed rain heads are nice. Rooms are made up daily, towels replaced as needed (wash clothes were not replaced, although I suspect a call to request them would fix that immediately) Fridge was replenished as needed; really there was nothing that we needed that we did not get .. except Canadian whiskey. They ran out last time we were here, and it happened again. But they have almost everything else and make great drinks and service is awesome. Wait staff is minimal, but getting your own beverage is a pleasant experience and offers a chance to chat with the bartender and meet fellow travellers from around the world.
I recommend this resort if you’ve never been and are looking for a small, quiet adult retreat and we will definitely go back after they do a refurb. Sister resort was just done, hope this one is next, and we can’t wait!
