Just returned from a week in Belize. The jungle is by far the better place to visit as compared to San Pedro. Ek'Tun is reached by a fairly long & very bumpy drive from San Ignacio, then a quick motor boat ride across the Macal...More
This place is truly exceptional; the scenery is spectacular, the location private and exotic -- moreover, the hostess/owner is a terrific cook who aims to please at mealtimes and will arrange all of the trips and activities one could hope for. My only complaint is...More
I would say that staying at Ek' Tun is a once-in-a-lifetime experience if it weren't for the fact that we already can't wait to go back. We stayed at Ek' Tun for 5 nights on our honeymoon, and it was absolutely the most memorable, awe-inspiring,...More
We overnighted at one of my favorite lodges in Belize - Ek'Tun Lodge, on the Macal River 12 miles upstream from San Ignacio. Owner Phyllis Lane is the feisty, opinionated lady who has created a most interesting place to stay, though it isn't for everyone....More

Although our trip was mostly wonderful in terms of food and accommodations, and we enjoyed the owner's hospitality, we have several friends who have attempted to contact her to no avail. This may because of a wifi problem or perhaps she is no longer encouraging others to visit. EkTun is approximately 12 miles from Guatemala border, about 6 miles south of San Ignacio. Xunantunich was within that 12 miles and are spectacular ruins. You will need a rental car to visit other destinations if you stay at Ek' Tun. Close by is Black Rock which is across the river from Ek' Tun.
