Zamani's Place was originally meant as a retreat for the owners's family but was later open to guests. The room was large with ample space for family with 2-3 kids. Shower had open roof concept which brought nature indoors. Location was close to attractions and nature. Children enjoyed fishing at the fishing pond within the compound and they caught plenty of fish. Staff were helpful in getting earthworms as bait and cleaning fish for cooking and recommended a small restaurant outside which charged about RM5.00 per fish cooking fee. Daily breakfast was local fare which was quite tasty served in the main house dining room. Unfortunately the beach at Pantai Murni is closed until Oct 2016 due to upgrading works....overall an enjoyable short getaway with family

We stayed at Zamani's place for 3 nights. We are a family of 2 adults and one child (8 years old). We had a little trouble to identify the place, but after we found it, we were greeted by the owner, even our arrival was quite late. In the next morning, the owner and his wife joined us for the breakfast, which by the way is truly Malaysian. The owner took the liberty to give us a personalized tour of the compound. He and his family really put his heart into building this place and make it a real gem where one can truly experience real and uncommercialised Malaysian hospitality. This is much more than the ordinary hotel/resort experience.

We had to attend a wedding in Kedah but all the Better hotels in town we're fully booked. so i took a gamble on this accommodation. firstly its in the middle on nowhere, YAN is not a place where someone visits. unless youre here for the archaeological ruins of ancient hindu temples in Lembah Bujang. (found this out when driving here) The beach at Pantai Murni is practically a mud pit. nice views but nothing more, weekends its crowded with locals hanging out. walking around the food court there i find it quite dirty. however this place is a gem of sorts. lemme get into details. we booked the family room (2 rooms with a connected toilet) pros: 1. The ONLY pool in the Town. we came on a Friday evening and swam till late. 2. Awesome views of paddy fields, Mountain (Gunung Jerai) in the background. its like having the Kampung (village) life with modern amenities. 3. Theres this odd looking caretaker who rides his bike with his cat in the mornings. quite hilarious. 4. Free wifi cons: 1. I have some issues with the toilet layout & finishing. it seemed to be done in a hurry & no attention to details. folks with partial OCD will find it quite disturbing. 2. Ants setting up colony near the WC. 3. When we arrived, there was no one in the property to welcome us, but mind you this is not a hotel. 4. Through no fault of the property owners our second night the property was full of other visitors (several related families) who took liberty of making themselves feel at home. the common areas were very crowded. 5. The cooks/cleaners we're not well trained in the arts of hospitality but they do whats necessary when you ask for it. Overall if you HAVE to stay in this area, this IS the place to stay. This 4 star is not comparable to a 4 star hotel, but within the circumstances we had good fun living the Modern Kampung Life.

I visited Zamani's Place in January 2014, and had two of the best days of my life, ever. The resort and surrounding countryside is immaculately beautiful, the facilities are incredible and the staff were amazing. Thank you, Zamani's Place! I cannot wait to come back!

Plusses; - Great Landscaping. It's really cosy and nicely done. - Big pool for the kids. Close, right in front of the rooms. - Rooms' decor was good. Size was more than adequate. - Good facilities, mini fridge, flat screen TV, free WiFi, safety box, towels for bath & pool, complimentary beverages present. - Friendly staff, not sure if they can speak English though - Great scenery too, you get Paddy fields & beach, albeit the beach isn't for swimming or picnicking. - Beautiful moat/pond and geese! Loads of cats too! Can be improved; - Access roads were narrow and didn't have proper signages. Driving big MPVs could be tricky. - Parking area could do with tarnac rather than bare earth which could be muddy if it rains. - A covered walkway from the carpark to the main building could help during rainy days too. - Pool water was a bit murky. It was clean (no leaves afloat) but maybe algae control could be better. - My family was the lone tenant for 2 days and there wasn't any staff around. I had their contact numbers but none was present, so if you are travelling alone, you might want to think about this. - Breakfast was bought from the shops nearby, could have been better if they were cooked on site. Maybe the normal cereal, milk, bread, jam, butter combo could be made available. - Dining choice is limited. The area is 'dead' by 8pm. There are a couple of restaurant/tomyam joints which operated nearby. The nearest would be the seaside food court. Last note. Don't forget your GPS!!

Location - Yan Kedah...what? Where? Do I hear you say? lol... It is only 1.5 hours drive from Penang so it is not all that far off like most people think it is. You have the sea right in front of you with BEAUTIFUL sunsets, padi fields and the majestic Gunung Jerai behind you! Zamani's place is off Pantai Murni, Yan Besar. Mind you, if you blink you might just totally miss Yan Besar! It is small & still really really kampung. Best way to get there is to fly into Penang or even Alor Star (45mins drive through padi field land!), rent a car and drive there. Alternatively, you can arrange for a pick up from the airport. Rooms - only 8 rooms with a good size pool (good for laps) and kid's pool right at your room door step (perfect as you don't have to remember to bring everything with you!) Rooms are nicely nicely furnished. If you like the doors and windows then there is a reason, they were salvaged from a house that is more than a century old! Complementary coffee and tea making facilities but if you run out, just hop into the main house and you will find plenty more at the pantry. Very comfy beds and unique bathrooms. Within the compound, there is a coop with chickens, ducks and geese so the kids have loads of fun watching them. There is a pretty large pond where the owner has put in some fish. You can fish if you want but bring you own rod. The landscape is lush and the pathways have its own characters. You can see the amount of passion put into this place by the owner just by looking out for the details! There are 2 gazebos where the adults can chill in peace as the kids can run around the compound. The place is gated so it is safe. Breakfast is provided so you can order with the girls. They will buy it from the village so safe bet is really great nasi lemak with chicken or fish. Roti and kuih. Just let them know what you want. The food will be at the dining hall so just go help yourself. It is almost like living in your own house...which is GREAT! For lunch and dinner, you can pre-order with the girls if you want. Or you can just hop out and find some pretty good eats (all halal). The stall furthest away from the playground at Pantai Murni (you will have to pass this staff area) serves really good fried chicken and curry for late breakfast or lunch. Alternatively, the road leading to the tiny wet market, only 1 row of shop so from the main road, i think it is the 3rd or 4th shop that serves really great lunch too. You can opt to pack and eat at the resort or you can eat there. Dinner - try Tg Dawai (about 30mins drive) - plenty of seafood restaurant by the beach. Or you can try some really great pasembur at pantai murni - it is a house just before the food stalls at pantai murni. I think they open around 5pm or so. Between 5 - 10 mins drive, you can get to 3 really beautiful waterfalls. Just ask the workers there how to get to the waterfalls. If i am not wrong, there is also a river where a wier was put in so there is a nice large pool there where all the kampung kids play. This place is great for a family gathering esp if you can take all 8 rooms so you have the whole place to yourselves! It is also a brilliant place for brainstorming sessions. The place is just so inspiring! Overall, a FANTASTIC PLACE to be. I have attached here 2 reviews from my 2 6-year old nieces! ;p Can't add any of my own photos of the place as they just don't do justice for the place. Look up their fb page and they have some really nice photos there.
