We had already stayed at several very nice hotels on our Costa Rica holiday, but this was definitely the nicest. We enjoyed everything about it - the lovely gardens with its flowers and hammocks, the room (we had a balcony from which we could watch squirrels and birds in the trees), the trails - as already described in the other...

Situated on the edge of La Fortuna town, which is within easy walking distance, the hotel sits in beautiful forest gardens. There are marked trails through the forest, on which can be seen agutis and coatimundis. There are of course birds everywhere. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed, with great attention to detail (I loved the cushions with birds embroidered...

We had a great experience here. Staff was especially friendly and helpful -- couldn't do more for us. They arranged tours, made suggestions. Facility was beautifully designed and furnished. Ground and gardens are outstanding. Laid out so that there is plenty of privacy with inviting paths and trails. We enjoyed the pool every day, lunch and drinks at poolside. Hammocks...

We stayed in the least expensive room, which was significantly cheaper than the others. The website was clear that this room is much smaller than the others but was perfect for our 2 night stay. Washroom has a nice rain shower and the patio has a great hammock and comfortable sofa, chairs and table. Service was excellent. They would bring...

We visited this hotel for two nights as part of a tailor made tour. All the hotels we stayed in were great but the Monteverde Lodge deserves a special mention for its attention to detail and excellent customer service. My diet is a bit of a nuisance (I don't eat gluten, dairy, onion or garlic!) but they dealt with it...

Recently stayed for two nights, which wasn't enough time to explore all this hotel offers for guests. The surrounding gardens and trails on the property are a nice bonus. The pool looked inviting, although it wouldn't accommodate more than a half dozen people without encroaching on one's personal space. Meals (we had breakfast and dinner) were well executed, with dinner...

Dear Paul D, Thank you for your detailed review. You've described the lodge very accurately. We designed it with nature lovers in mind. Rustic elegance not luxury. The luxuries you will find at the lodge are in the quality of the guiding, the food, the grounds and wildlife that make their home there and above all the service. We're sorry...

Room and especially bathroom is big, for the rest rather standard. Hotel has a nice location, close to centre of Santa Helena, beautifully surrounded by fauna and flora. Swimming pool is heated and a nice relaxing area after an adventurous day. Breakfast is a la carte and professionally served by the helpfull staff

We are here right now and very much enjoying our stay. We booked too late to get a balcony room but the forest view room is just fine. I'm here with my husband and two teenage sons and we're managing it with one room. The people who work here are particularly nice. The restaurant is a stand out and is...

Dear irvingtonevk, Thank you for describing what you were doing in "real time". We're delighted that you enjoyed the lodge, the grounds, the wildlife and your afternoon cocktail by the pool. I highly recommend that you try the Guaro Sour, made with our national sugar cane moon shine. Very tasty, here's the recipe: Guaro Sour Ingredients: 1 oz Lemon juice...

The Lodge is indeed a rustic hotel, but fits right in with the surroundings. The staff is "over the top" helpful. When dining, choose a table overlooking the gardens and you may see colorful birds and playful monkeys. On our first night, we were escorted to a special dining table within the butterfly enclosure! The excursions arranged for us were...

Dear Pkend, It sounds like you were a perfect fit for the lodge. Since you enjoyed Monteverde Lodge so much, you would probably really like our sister lodge in Tortuguero, Tortuga Lodge & Gardens (#1 for Tortuguero here on Trip Advisor). For people that are trying to decide if they want to book on Expedia or Booking, we suggest that...

This has to be one of the best places to stay in Santa Elena, Monteverde. Peaceful, lovely grounds, a butterfly sanctuary off the lobby. Our ground floor room was charming and comfortable with a v- shaped window to sit in and enjoy the nature outside. Had fretted about not getting an upstairs room with a balcony but in fact it...

Dear Margot T, Thank you for sharing how much you enjoyed your Forest View Downstairs Room after being concerned about not getting a Balcony Room. Downstairs Rooms, they have exactly the same layout as the Balcony rooms but with a bay window instead of a balcony. These are more affordable, have views of the forest under story where you will...
