On the pristine island of Pulau Tiga off the west coast of Sabah, Malaysia Borneo is a gem of a boutique getaway, Borneo Eagle Resort. Set in a pocket of paradise, this luxury vacation destination is blessed with clear azure waters and white sand beach, as well as magnificent coral reefs in the marine reserve.

Stopped by on a month long tour of Asia and was surprised by this hidden Gem off the the south west coast of Sabah. The resort has an amazing location on the previously screened Survivor Island Borneo Series for those of us who watched it back then. Our accommodation was a huge villa located right by the sea fronted by white sand and crystal blue coral reef waters teeming with lobsters and fish. The resort has a lovely arrival hall and possibly the biggest pool in Sabah. All in all, a great experience with lovely service and curated meals using the resort's own organic produce. We actually hope to keep this quiet as long as possible before the tourists begin to discover this new sanctuary. It is but a fraction of the price charged at the more established destinations.

We stayed 3 nights here at the end of a rainforest safari trip. Fantastic accommodation and setting. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful, made us feel at home and looked after us throughout, suggesting activities each day that we could all enjoy and finding the best spots for snorkelling on the reef. The food was consistently wonderful and the chef went out of his way to discuss the meals he was planning and take into account our preferences. An unforgettable experience and somewhere we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

We stayed at Borneo Eagle Resort for six nights at the end of a wildlife holiday in Borneo. It is the most amazing place!
Luxury villas, excellent service, and the most amazing team of staff who make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. We enjoyed sea kayaking, archery, a trek to the small mud volcano, and snorkelling, all of which were included. I also had a wonderful relaxing massage. The view at sunrise from the pool villas is fabulous. The food is excellent and so are the fresh coconuts!
If you're looking for a peaceful resort with fantastic service, I definitely recommend Borneo Eagle. We didn't want to leave!

First, let me point out that the staff at the resort, without any exception, was kind and helpful. The problem with Borneo Eagle is in my opinion, that the value for money overall doesn’t add up. For example, at dinner, I got a free drink and that was about it. So for every extra ,the staff was running a tab, which I had to sign off every evening. This didn’t feel special or luxurious to me, just cheap and somewhat greedy. My overall added extras amounted to the sensational sum of 870 MYR which is a fraction of the overall price. Simply put, the idea of a special experience vanished quickly. And disappointments kept coming: Before the trip, I was asked per email, for my favourite drink just to be informed on the first night that both of my choices were not available. For the entire stay. The beach in front of the main hall was full of litter. There was no extra secured path into the sea in front of my villa, so I had to climb through slippery rocks for a swim. The rock structure all along the seafront was undergoing renovation with a huge ugly tarp of about 1m width stretched all along the seafront. There was no WiFi in my accommodation so for any message or call, I had to walk back to the main hall. Many of the power sockets in the main building didn’t work. The food was good but certainly not special or outstanding. There were no other guests for the entire 5 days. I understand that facilities such as Borneo Eagle work on 50% occupancy to make profit. But still, the whole place had an eerie vibe to it. Again, staff was great. So problem could be management. Please raise your game!

Unfortunately, there are rats in the bungalow at night who come in through an alcove by the sliding door. Even live traps didn’t help – on the “best” night there were 7 rats inside. The rats also run around the restaurant. There are also erosions that could certainly have been fixed for some time if you had wanted to. The beach full of drift material. The pool only half full of salt water. The shampoo (etc.) - bottles are made of glass (!) and if one breaks, you have to refund 52€ for it - an outrage. +++ The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating :-) :-) :-) :-) The pool villa very large, the bed very comfortable. The view great, the pool again with salt water. Food delicious. +++ Departed a day earlier than planned due to the rats, management did not budge on our email - extremely inappropriate at such an expensive resort. In general, communication is stalled. Overall disappointed, especially how the management treats its guests!!

Simply Beautiful. Very happy staff that greats you as you reach the resort. Just a dozen of villas facing the sea. Forest reserve literally behind the villas... Super. Must go for trekking in the beautiful forest with the Super Duper guides. Learn about the mud pool and how soothing it is for your tired skin. No mosquitoes when we were there. The pool villa is huge, clean and excellent. Wake up in the morning sun. The chef and the staff are very friendly. Food is yummy. First time I tried the chia seed pudding for breakfast. Now become part of my healthy breakfast. Excellent fresh fish / crabs and prawns. I love the desserts... The chef's pavlova is super-duper. Good selection of wine. Amazingly, the friendly hornbills nest on the trees next to the dining area. They are beautiful. I love this resort as it is only half an hour speedboat ride from mainland. The resort is so peaceful except for sounds of Nature. I love the huge "native" trees, the lovely varieties of hibiscus and bumble bees soaking up the morning glory flowers. Will be back for longer stay and forget about the mad rush of city life.

What an overpriced fake! This resorts has the prices of an ultra-luxury resort and the style of medium priced city hotel. It looks like wood? Well, it's painted steel or plastic. It looks like stones? It's painted concrete. For well more than US$1000 per night one would expect a good restaurant with fresh food. Nope.... Being the only guest meant that the staff was not really motivated to work and that no fresh food was at disposition. There is a spa menu, but massages are available in ones room only or on the beach. Huge TVs in the villas, but no TV signal. A barely functioning WLAN, but no functiong phone system. And the beach? What little beach there is, it is not clean, nobody bothering to collect waste. Small miracle I was the only guest for the whole 5 days!

We have just returned from the most fantastic stay at Borneo Eagle Resort, which has now easily taken the crown for the best place I have ever stayed! The transfer to the resort was very easy and all arranged by the hotel, who communicate quickly and clearly. We arrived to be greeted by a line-up of all the wonderful staff of the resort and were shown to our villa by the very welcoming and accommodating manager.
We had chosen a pool villa, which in fact is the cheapest of the 3 villa options, but was still pure luxury. It was extremely spacious, with the most beautiful view of the sea and the sunrise. The photographs of the villa's private pools do not do them justice, they are actually much larger than they look in the photographs.
We were provided with activities such as hiking (a very short and easy hike) to the nearby mud volcano, kayaking at sunset and snorkelling. The sunset kayaking in particular is something we will never forget.
The staff were all very attentive and made us feel very special. The food is absolutely delicious.
I would love to come back. It is very expensive compared to other island resorts in Borneo, but it was worth every penny to avoid the crowds, to have peace and quiet and to have such a special and memorable experience.

We were actually part of a yacht rally that anchored off Tiga Island on our way up the coast of Borneo. The Manager, Tomas, and his efficient team of staff invited our group ashore and welcomed us with amazing hospitality. As we all arrived in our dinghies at the jetty, we were transported in golf buggies to the nearby resort. It was reminiscent of the scene in 'Jurassic Park' as the buggies drove us through dense topical jungle with immaculately landscaped gardens surrounding the resort. We were dropped off at a large entry that opened up to a stunning pool area with bar and seating areas. Whilst we were no staying at the resort, we had the opportunity to see something of the villas available and boy- we were blown away by the opulence, huge spacious luxury rooms with minute attention to detail. Having seen the pitiful state of pollution in South East Asia first hand whilst cruising, we were all particularly impressed at the Eco Resorts efforts to be as eco friendly as possible, using the resources of nature for power, avoiding the use of plastic and even paper straws! It's certainly an expensive place to stay, but if you personalized service on an amazing tropical island, in stunning surroundings with every luxury you could imagine to indulge yourselves then look no further.

We had the opportunity to spend 4 days at Borneo Eagle Resort on Borneo. It was an amazing experience... Most beautiful island, great and new hotel rooms, and - most importantly - great service. Benny and the team went out of their way to make us feel very special. On top of that, they prepared two wonderful surprises on our wedding anniversary. Without doubt, one of the best experiences we have had on our many travels in Asia and elsewhere.
