There is always fun to be had at Gressenhall! Discover the history of Norfolk’s rural life inside a historic workhouse, with fascinating objects and interactive displays. Stand in the evocative workhouse settings, face to face with projections of staff and inmates and listen to firsthand stories, often tragic, sometimes inspirational, from the people who once walked these whitewashed corridors. This unique museum hosts a traditional working farm, home to the magnificent Suffolk Punch horses, a wildlife rich river walk and woodland, and an adventure playground nestled within 50 acres of Norfolk countryside. Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse makes a superb setting for themed event days, family fun activities, school holiday excitement and workshops in traditional crafts. As well as offering delicious home cooked food from The Mardlers Rest Cafe.

Housed in a beautiful timber-framed, reed-thatched early C16th cottage, with colourful pargetting. It is the oldest domestic building in the market town of Dereham. It houses displays of Dereham's local history and the archaeology of the surrounding area, in the Breckland region of central Norfolk. The Museum was founded, and is still run, by volunteer members of the Dereham Heritage Trust. We are open from early May to end of September.
