Overlooking the Rhone Valley, Nendaz boasts an incredible panorama of the Alps. As sunny as the French Riviera, Nendaz is perfect for a number of outdoor activities such as skiing (on 400 kilometers of slopes), winter and summer hiking, exploring the area's ancient waterways, or mountain biking. Located at the heart of the largest ski region in Switzerland, Nendaz has plenty of options for beginners and expert skiers alike, with its extraordinary itineraries and extremely varied ski runs.

Known for its medieval history, its auto-making prowess (as home base of both Ferrari and Maserati) and its famous balsamic vinegar, Modena is a treat for visitors of all ages. The 12th-century Romanesque Cathedral of Modena, with its spectacular Ghirlandina bell tower (under restoration until the end of 2010), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just outside of town (and next to the car maker’s factory) in Maranello is Galleria Ferrari, dedicated to the brand and Italian motor racing industry.

Sylt, an island in northernmost German, has beaches on the North Sea. See the island’s thatched roof houses by bike or horseback. You can also visit the Sylt Aquarium. Sylt has several golf courses.

Maybe your local zoo has lions, leopards, zebras or elephants. Maybe they even have wildebeest. But we bet they don't have 1.3 million wildebeest—never mind 1.3 million wildebeest in migration, with predators in hot pursuit. It's one of the most awesome sights in nature, and you can see it at Masai Mara in southwestern Kenya.

The Maasai call the plains of Serengeti National Park "the place where the land moves on forever"—so prepare to be astonished by its vastness. And here, you can witness the famous Serengeti annual migration, the largest and longest overland migration on earth.

The world's largest inland delta, Okavango Delta (also known as Okavango Swamp) is formed by the emptying of the Okavango River into the Kalahari Desert at the place where an ancient lake once sat. An immensely wildlife-rich expanse of islands, islets and lagoons (many of which change shape and even disappear with the coming of every annual flood season), Okavango is home to many safari camps, most of which aren't reached by road but rather by small airplane from Maun, the area's main village.
