What a great day out! A great family day out set in a beautiful picturesque setting where the views are almost worth the visit alone. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the dinosaurs but hoped that they wouldn’t be the cheap looking cheesy ones that you find in some places as my little one loves dinosaurs and we were definitely not disappointed - not only are there so many to see, they are brilliantly designed and blended in with the local area in amongst the tress etc, really well thought out and implemented. The caves themselves are at different ends of the spectrum with two absolutely breathtaking and worth visiting and enjoying - we particularly enjoyed the Cathedral cave and the waterfall within however after queuing for a hard hat for fifteen minutes to walk into the Bone cave we personally found it a bit of a let down and would skip it next however I’m sure plenty of people would enjoy it. The outside play area and farm was a great hit with my little one with lots to explore and play with. I personally found the cafe to be an average price compared to other tourist attractions and whilst there wasn’t vast choice what we bought was nice - great staff in the cafe! As a FYI it’s worth knowing is that you must book tickets for your visit online if you turn up without a ticket you will get turned away and also wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking required.

Full day needed to explore everything and mobility needed as quite spread out and uphill climb for bone cave, viewing point, dinosaur village. Main caves quite a walk inside on a 1 way basis quite narrow and uneven paths not suitable for prams or those with mobility issues. Very interesting to learn all about the history, lovely museum at the end with some interactive displays. Ending up in a shop which sells a limited range of dinosaur and gemstones products as well as memorabilia. My only gripe is that theres only 1 set of toilets by the restaurant which you can only access by exiting the main park and cannot re enter once ticket gate is shut as its a 1 way system you can end up missing parts. There needs to be a toilet facility by bone cave or dinosaur village. The mini train only runs from the carpark up to the entrance until last entry so you have a walk downhill to the carpark. The farm is by the carpark which has more information and animals and ancient burial stone site but that also closes early. Restsurant and outdoor snackstop have limited seating. A covered picnic area would be helpful

Wonderful visit. Caves were amazing, dinosaur park was great for the children (bit of a walk) animals and train ride fab as well. All in all it was a great day. My only criticism would be the ridiculous price and very poor quality of the food in the cafe. My advice stay away from cafe and take your own food. Two poor quality sausages some frozen chips £8.50 and coffee £3.50 which was tasteless.

Visited Good Friday in a large family group. Not been for years although we are only about 15 miles away. I use a mobility scooter so had disabled and carer tickets. When I showed my ticket to the young boy in the ticket box he was so careful to explain that I wouldn't be able to go around the cavesin a very kindly way although I already knew this and was prepared to wait in the cafe. That was the first member of staff that impressed me but every other staff member I came into contact with was also impressive. The girls in the cafe couldn't have been more helpful carrying my tea and moving chairs so I could sit by the window to people watching and other staff had a laugh and joke with me when they knew I might have to wait up to 3 hours for the family to come back (thankfully they were only an hour and a half! Onto the animal part and even more friendly staff from the lady in the gift stall to the stable girls. So congratulations to the management for having staff with high morale.

You must book tickets beforehand online. Spent around 4 hours here on a very wet day, bit still had a great time. If it'd been sunny we could have played the giant draughts board and crazy golf! Main caves were great, also Cathedral Cave with the gushing water and finally the Bone Cave with a bit of Iron Age history and models. Farm and Shire Horses were a nice addition, able to stroke the horses, donkeys and goats. Plenty of fun for kids with a soft play barn, not forgetting the amazing dinosaur models, including ones that move and make a noise. Free parking, decent cafe, loos, picnic area and gift shop, what more could you ask for?

We enjoyed Dan Yr Ogof cave and the Cathedral cave. The dinosaur area was really good but it took a difficult uphill struggle to see them. You had to walk through them to see the other caves so we had no choice but to struggle uphill for what seemed like a lifetime! Some of us have limited mobility and this was very difficult. There was no warning of this either so beware if you have mobility issues! When we finally got all the way to the top you could see the bone cave, where we had to wear hard hats and stoop all the way to the entrance. When we got inside it was such a disappointment! A very small cave with some wax work figures inside. There was quite a disturbing narration going on which may upset children. The figures were depicting the "shallow burial" of a family member and this was accompanied with wailing! We took my 7 year old granddaughter, luckily she didn't hear this but if she had I know it would've really upset her as she is a very sensitive child. There were also no other toilets other than the ones in the café it seemed, so if you do climb all the way up to see the dinosaurs, you will need to come all the way back down again to use the loo! Although Dan Yr Ogof Cave and the Cathedral Cave were beautiful, I wouldn't visit this place again, it is very overpriced.
Hello Beth. Thank you for your recent visit to The National Showcaves Centre for Wales, and for taking the time to leave some feedback. We do not hide the fact that – owing to our mountainous location and the natural layout of our caves and other attractions – a visit here can be difficult for those guests with reduced mobility and/or additional needs. Detailed information can be found on the ‘Plan Your Visit’ section of our website, and this information also ‘pops up’ when visitors select our reduced rate tickets when purchasing online; in other words, we explain at length the difficulties some guests may encounter even before any money changes hands. Furthermore, we also encourage guests to contact us directly to discuss their individual needs, if required. Bone Cave is indeed a lot smaller than the Dan-yr-Ogof and Cathedral Caves, but has an incredibly rich and varied history. Those visitors who take the time to learn its secrets often tell us that this is a highlight of their visit. We disagree with your comments on this cave; it is simply an interpretation of how both man and beast may have used this cave, based on the evidence found within. Our ticket allows visitors to exit and re-enter the attraction to use our facilities, which are never more than a short walk from our various exhibits. Other caving attractions in the UK and Ireland charge similar (and often higher) prices than we do, and many only have the 1 cave on offer. We have 3, plus 7 other attractions. We therefore feel our entry rate offers incredible value, as reviewers on TripAdvisor/Google/Facebook/etc. overwhelmingly tend to agree with.

What an amazing day out! The kids (4 and 10) and myself and Husband had a fantastic time! So much to see and do and so many different dinosaurs to see and realistic displays and set ups! The land train was a great touch to take you from the car park to the entrance. And staff were so friendly and helpful. Food prices weren’t to bad considering it’s an attraction, much cheaper than other places we have been. The caves are stunning, the Cathedral cave was myself and hubbys favourite with all the waterfalls in there and vastness of it, our son loved exploring the Dan yr Ogof cave the most and listening to the story of the Morgan brothers, and our daughter loved the climb up to the bone cove and wearing the hard hats (smelt like feet though) definitely don’t advise that climb of your unsteady on your feet or struggle with mobility. The farm was lovely aswel, lts of animals to see and the zip wire was lots of fun, we spent so long in the park having fun that we only had 10 minutes in the farm before closing, but it was still great, the Shire horses were beautiful and the kids loved seeing them, and the Shetlands. The price is very reasonable and we will 100% visit again soon! Definitely a favourite of ours now!

Had a nice day out with the family. The caves were amazing especially the cathedral cave. I would definitely recommend to take a jumper with you. The dinosaurs were literally everywhere the kids absolutely loved seeing them all. The kids loved the gift shop at the end and bought some souvenirs. The farm was ok it was nice to interact with all the animals and the kids loved the playground. The only negative thing I have to say was that the cafe food was very expensive. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Had a brilliant day out with the family at Dan Yr Ogof, the staff were incredibly helpful, a member of staff named Dan went above and beyond. My father in law who is disabled needed his mobility scooter, and Dan was able to make sure my father in law enjoyed and saw as much of the park as possible. Nothing was too much trouble and was so lovely. Thank you so much

  • Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary Hotels
We are located in the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park area of South Wales. The sanctuary rescues and provides a home for many types of unwanted animals, especially primates, such as chimpanzees, baboons, mandrills, spider monkeys, vervets, capuchins, mangabeys and marmosets. Although we specialise in the care and protection of primates we cannot stand by and see other animals in need of help. You will therefore find wolf dogs, horses, donkeys, cattle, pigs and others at our sanctuary. All are equally important members of our extended family. Visitors are welcome to see the animals and the work we do. We undertake a number of rescues from zoos and laboratories where animals have suffered mistreatment and deprivation or are no longer wanted. As they are not equipped for survival in the wild we can only endeavour to make the rest of their lives as enjoyable and stress free as possible.
