The museum has recently been redone and it looks wonderful. It takes a couple of hours to walk and look at the exhibitions. All the exhibitions are well displayed and there is a lot of information on the placards. You do have to check in your bag, and you are allowed to take pictures without a flash. Restrooms are clean and well kept. The staff was welcoming and gave us a good explanation of the displays, knowing Spanish is a plus but not necessary. To my surprise there is no entry fee. If you are in Guatemala City this is a must.

I haven't been to this museum for decades, but it has recently been renovated (Nov 23) and it is fabulous. On a par with anywhere I've seen in the world. The contents are great - and they're all beautifully presented. I've always told visitors to Guatemala not to bother with the City, but this is definitely worth a visit. It's near the airport, so visit when you arrive, before you explore the country.

We came to see the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. Filled with Mayan artifacts. If you like museums, this is one to see. Not quite as good as the museum in Mexico City, but it’s very nice. Takes about 1 - 2 hours to walk through. The jade mask here is beautiful.

We've been to a LOT of Maya sites and museums. This is the finest display of extremely well preserved pieces that we've seen. By that, I mean the condition of many of the stone stele is such that someone who can read Maya glyphs would have no trouble reading these, including on stones more than 2,000 years old. Pottery, jewelry, masks and carvings are also incredibly beautiful. And the redesigners of the museum were careful to light all these objects so you can see every detail. Nearly everything is labeled in English and Spanish, but they don't do a lot of context for you, so read up on your Guatemalan Maya! (If you want a comprehensive overview of the Maya history and culture, the Grand Museum of the Maya World in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico is the best anywhere.

What a knockout! I had not been for decades and couldn't understand why our curator organized a visit to this musty pink palace. Well, it was totally amazing...multi-lingual labels, well-lit modern exhibits of all kinds, fabulous carvings and ceramics. The latest technology. The stunning objects. I dragged my husband there the following week for a visit and he was delighted. Put this together with the Museo Ixchel (textiles) and the Popol Vuh right next-door and you have a wonderful day and a superb platform from which to admire, enjoy and understand Guatemala.
