Great tour even if you aren’t a Hemingway fan!
I’m not a fan of Hemingway’s work and always imagined him being pompous, so I had low expectations about seeing Hemingway’s house. I was so pleasantly surprised! The house has a great backstory, the gardens are beautiful, and little did I know—there are cats! Of course tour guides make or break a tour, and our tour guide was a good storyteller. I liked hearing the stories of his wives, especially the story of the wife who got rid of Hemingway’s boxing ring and built a swimming pool. I also enjoyed the history around the cats, and had a good chuckle when there was a cat sleeping in Hemingway’s bed. This is a worthwhile tour when visiting Key West!

    Spicy story... of a writer
If there's one must-see in Key West, it's Mr. Hemingway's "famous yellow house." Note that it is not so much for the beauty of the residence (even if it stands out) as for the juicy little stories of the place... not to say, Ernest's anecdotes! In short... The visit revealed other facets of the hectic life of this writer!

    Come early, do the tour!
I absolutely loved seeing Hemingway’s house, especially interacting with the cats. They treat their polydactyl cats exceptionally well and allow you to interact with them as much as the cats engage. There doesn’t seem to be a limit on how many people come into the house, so make sure to come early or late to maximize your experience. I suggest taking the tour, as the tour guides are wonderful and offer so much more context to the experience of visiting the house .

    Worth a visit
We understand that everyone stops by here during their visit to Key West. This was a short walk from where we were staying so we joined the crowd. My Honey and I had watched Ken Burns documentary about Ernest before our visit, so when we toured the house with more heightened interest. Unfortunately, a cruise ship had arrived the day we toured so the grounds were so crowded. We self toured since the wait time and size of group convinced us of such. Regardless of the crowd we found the house and grounds worth the admission fee of $36 a couple. The numerous cats that inhabit the grounds were fun and interesting. The guided tour is probably the way to go as we overheard some of the amusing stories that were shared. Well worth a visit.

    Must see
A great museum. A guided tour is provided with admission. Would suggest you walk around outside first, then take the tour. Also don't forget to see the writing studio above the gift shop.

    Worth the Visit
This was on our bucket list of things to see in Key West and it didn’t disappoint. It was very interesting to see where he wrote some of his greatest works and it was really cool that the furnishings were original from the time he spent there. The history of his time in Key West amazing. And then there were the cats…..lots of them everywhere!

I came for the cats. It was worth it. The house and history were good too.
I arrived just after the last tour began (4:30) so was worried I was too late, but they told me I could still join if I wanted. The tour guide was really good. I'm not really a Hemingway fan but I learned lots of interesting things about his life. She also knew all the cats by name and how many toes each had. Since it was the last tour of the day we were told that if we gave her name the next day we could get in a second time to further explore. I found my first visit sufficient but I thought that was a really nice thing they offer since time is limited at the end of the day.

Great family destination and a must do while in Key West
If you find yourself in Key West, carve out an hour or two to stop by the museum and take the tour (probably 30 minutes). We enjoyed our time with Rob our tour guide as he shared with us the history of the property, the house, and some fantastic stories about Ernest Hemingway. I have three teenage girls who went to see cats and enjoyed learning the history just as much.
