A different walk, a redevelopment of an old metro line that I greatly appreciated. If you love architecture there are interesting ideas. If you are hungry, look for the COOKSHOP restaurant just a few minutes walk from the High Line you eat well!

We'd only arrived in New York a few hours earlier but we wanted to join the walk along the High Line guided by one of the High Line Volunteers. It's an amazing space on an old railway viaduct that has been converted into a green oasis. Lots of work has gone into making a layer for the plants to thrive. Along the way there are various artworks too. Some were specially comissioned for the location. One of the amazing things to me was that when it was originally constructed to bring meat into the packing factories it was constructed through the buildings that were there at the time. You can still see a few where the High Line goes through and the building is shaped around it. Taking the guided walk we learnt a lot about its construction and the continuing efforts to save it from the developers. It's worth the effort getting there and there are views of the river and the city too

One of our favorite experiences in New York, taking a long walk on this elevated park that is a recycled elevated train line. Your walk will take you through important fun neighborhoods like Hudson Yards, the Meatpacking District, and Chelsea. This popular park has sparked a resurgence of this entire part of the west side. Great way to see buildings from another perspective. it is popular so you will encounter crowds.

On an abandoned historic industrial lane, the city has managed to make a 2 km fantastic "park" on the 1st floor above traffic. The route is planted with a sea of flowers and bushes, just as you can experience neighborhoods and buildings in different architecture. You get behind the facade in the neighborhoods you pass, and at the same time the tour gives a nice view of the city and Hudson River. You can enjoy views of Empire State Building, The Edge, Chelsea Market and Hudson Yards. High Line Park has become very public-friendly, with picnic tables, elevators and public toilets in several places on the stretch. The tour is also very handicapped and child-friendly, as wheelchairs and baby carriages can come around anywhere on the route. When it is nice weather, food trucks and cafes are opened, where it is possible to get some food and drink. During the high season, you have to be prepared for a lot of people who will enjoy a great trip. Definitely a must see when in New York.

Whilst on a trip with my family we found we needed something to pass an evening. We found the High-Line which is a raised walk around New York City and its amazing architecture. Once a run-down railway, the high-line was converted and is now bustling with lots of people. As you gaze down at the city, you may notice some of the modern artwork lining the walk. There are also toilets and water fountains as well as lots of things to look out for. Definitely recommend!

The High Line is a unique feature in New York City. One is inclined to remark, “Only in New York….” Originally, the elevated P Way (or Permanent Way, to borrow the lingo of railway engineers) was set up in the 1930s to carry freight from the nearby meat packaging district to the other side of New York City. It ran from 33rd Street to 14th Street. And it served its function as a freight line for the next 50 or so years. Over time, as trucking took over, freight trains along the elevated line ceased operating and the line went into disrepair. Vegetation grew along the lines as nature took over. Subsequently, the phenomenon that we nowadays popularly call “rewilding” occurred after the 1980s, creating a naturally bio-diverse habitat. The old railway tracks are still visible along sections which have been deliberately planted over. There are some exotic plants and grasses too which are appropriately labelled along the way, making for a botanical learning exercise. Along the High Line there are the ubiquitous stalls offering food and drink and other enterprising people selling street art. There appears to have been plans to demolish the High Line a decade ago but the local citizenry seem to have banded together and campaigned to preserve it for posterity. The magic and unique perspective afforded by being on a raised walkway, amidst natural and planted flora, surrounded by functioning offices and apartments, while traffic flows continually on the road below is unmatched anywhere else on the planet. Of course, only in New York…

Of course, we can say that it is one of the most peculiar and different parks that we have ever seen, as it is located on the old train tracks that crossed a small part of the city by air. It is amazing, with countless different flowers and plants, with an exhibition of many interesting artistic works, with a very good atmosphere and views of the city from a different angle. One of the best places we visited in New York (visited from May 14 to 20, 2024). In addition, it has well-marked, well-kept and "very original" public bathrooms. We toured it all after our cruise around Manhattan with the Circle Line tour company. At noon there were more people walking through this curious park, but it was not overwhelming (I don't know what it will be like at another time of year at the same time). All in all, we loved it!

The High Line is a disused railway that has been very cleverly transformed into a greenway connecting Chelsea to Hudson Yards. It is a great idea and will look fantastic during the summer months once all of the shrubs and plants are in full bloom. There are plenty of exit/entry points along the route if you wish to leave at any point, and there is an entry point to Chelsea Markets from the walkway itself. They have completed excellent work on transforming this railway including viewpoints over the busy city roads, plenty of art/architecture and spaces to sit and read or people gaze. Nice stroll, but, while it was designed as an urban escape from busy city life it is clear once you are on the walk that it has quickly become a tourist attraction and there were parts of the walk that were quite busy.

I love what the state of NYC has done with this line, they really have transformed it from what it was like (history on the walls to show you what it once looked like, compared to now) A nice walk, we were lucky enough to go on a warm day, it does get busy, so probs better to go early in the morning! Lots of food places near by that also get very busy! You can walk the High Line in 30 mins- 45 mins, and we were not walking fast and stopped for the occassional photo.

Fun and unique park and with tons of shade. You can also do your souvenir shopping on the cheap by the outdoor stalls beside the 57 Pier (that you can access and see from High Line park). There are also cafes and food stalls so you can easily grab a drink or food and be on your way. It is a different way to see NYC walking well above ground level. There’s tons of art to admire and also for purchase and also pop experiences too. The only thing is that it is crowded with people; so if you do not like crowds in your green spaces, you may not enjoy High Line.
