Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.

"Tall monument in Plaza de Espana"

This tall and beautiful monument is located in the centre of Plaza de Espana. Many tourists came here just to take a photo/selfie with this monument and the statues of Don Quixote & Sancho Panza. Enjoy the surrounding fountain & pond in this open space plaza.
Very interesting place full of arts, music and funky vibes. There was a stage with live music in the main building. You could get cheap beer too. We stumbled upon a reggae room as well which was great. There is street art everywhere and the atmosphere is great. Wish the toilets had soap but at least there are toilets ;)
Great market with affordable prices. There are two floors in this supermarket. On the first floor you will find the deli, fruits and vegetables, organic/bio, and dairy products and in the basement/lower level you will find the lower priced items as well as the liquor section. Also, chips, peanuts, paper products, etc. My suggestion is you check out the whole...
My twin brother Stephen and I were heading to the great craft beer bar called Craft Against The Machine and passed this beautiful church.
The Church Of Saint Cajetan ( Church Of St Millán Y San Cayetano ) was founded in 1612 with the present church construction taking place between 1669 and eventually completed in 1761 but through the years...
Food was amazing and service really kind (Natasha was a great waitress and gave us the greatest hints!!!). Highly recommend it!
The tigellas (house special bread) were super tasty and a great entree. The lasagna carbonara was superb and the final limoncello was the perfect ending to our evening.

"Love This Place"

My favorite place in Lavapiés... a charming little tapas place owned by these two cool super friendly guys. They always try their best to make sure you enjoy your time at their place. Their empanadas are simply the best I have tried in Madrid. Other recommended plates: albóndigas, chorizo (awesome!), croquetas ... and their delicious dulces de leche cake...
We did a trip advisor search for the best tapas in Madrid and were not disappointed by this little place! On a back street not far from good metro links you would easily miss it, but well worth a visit! We took the waiters recommendations for 3 tapas dishes we had never tried before.. absolutely delicious!
Amazing food. Wonderful staff. And when our 4 year old child fell asleep after a long day the staff insisted on letting him sleep on a corner sofa so we could continue enjoying our meal. No judgement. #ThingsThatDontHappenInAmerica
Don’t miss the butterfish which is excellent. The swordfish also a standout
Friendly staff, great room, great Wi-fi, good breakfast, walked from here to everywhere in Madrid central.
Stayed with wife and 2 daughters in one room, all good. Bathroom a little liberal for English tastes 😂 frosted glass.
Cannot recommend highly enough. Will be staying again when next in Madrid.
24hr carrefour 50m away. Restaurants near by.

The hostal is clean, quiet and perfectly located near the train station and walking distance to major attractions . The staff is super friendly. They happily kept my luggage after check-out and allowed me to use the restroom when I came back to pick my stuff. They conveniently have a minibar with reasonable prices. I stayed there for 2 nights....
This hostal is very well placed. And the price is really very good . The room are basic but well attended, not high expectations but they are clean and the air conditioning/ heating work well . I spend there a couple of nights but for a short visit I will certainly comeback. Like the breakfast very much and to eat...
