This waterfront area below the most famous section of the Huangpu River has undergone multiple phases of development that started when the Waterhouse Hotel opened its doors. Though it’s been slower to catch on than people expected, every year something new and exciting opens up and gives people a reason to keep calling the South Bund the "Next Big Thing." There are a couple of landmark hotels and restaurants of excellent quality that serve as anchors, and multiple annual events such as beer festivals, art and fashion fairs and music shows take advantage of the wide spaces, waterfront location and the tiny man-made beach to host huge crowds of people. Wandering about the newness, one can stumble upon authentic Chinese life in the stone gates of people’s residences or the street markets.
Oh so similar to the Tate Modern in London - on the river, a bit hard to get too, a lot of concrete and a huge cavernous space - all depends on exhibitions but great views of the river on L3 and also from the top floor open air roof top. A bit rustic and not as commercial as others...
The bridge is quite beautiful especially at night.
While maybe not particularly structurally significant, this bridge like everything else in Shanghai is functional and attractive.
Unique spiral approach makes it all the more interesting.
The actual process of the making a silk doona was intriguing and I loved the hands on experience. The silk pillow was a good buy and having the doona and pillow delivered to our hotel the night before we left meant we did not have to lug it around. The clothes upstairs were so so and a bit expensive
"Shanghai Dongjiadu Church Heavily Damaged and Closed Indefinitely"
reviewed 16 May 2018 by George F
The heavy construction around Shanghai Dongjiadu Church, a.k.a. St Francis Xavier Church, may have severely damaged the foundations of the church, and it has been closed since September 2016. No Catholic Masses are being held no members of the public are permitted to enter the premises. The church compound is surrounded by high steel construction barricades, and steel framework to...
Been here several times already and was never disappointed!
Cannot really understand the people complaining about the size of the dish. I’ve never left this place hungry.
The food is excellent, the service is outstanding friendly and helpful.
Order the best tuna tarter you’ll ever get!!
Small quaint restaurant on the Bund. Hard to find but worth it. The pizza is authentic and the service is very good. The manager speaks English. Will definitely go again as it’s next to the hotel I frequent.

We had an excellent dinner in their steak restaurant on the top floor. The meat is of an excellent quality. The service is very good and what is nice is that you can choose a special knife to cut your meat with.
The wine selection was very limited and extremely overpriced. I would have given 5 stars if this was...

"Pretty amazing industrial hotel - brilliant restaurant "
reviewed 15 May 2018 by wstokes1965
Stayed one night (room 32) which was one of the suites - great size room and amazing views. The joinery in room appeared worn out / paint peeling etc - we couldn’t quite work out if this was the look or lack of maintenance!
The overall architecture of the hotel is very industrial and the foyer area amazing.
Everything about this hotel is beyond amazing.
This is a gorgeous property with a wonderful restaurant/ cafe/ bar and an extremely comfortable room. The staffs are friendly and well trained, every detail and corner in the hotel is well-designed. Most of the famous attractions in Shanghai were basically nearby. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Shanghai, I will...
