There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
A $20 tour gets you an interesting take on American gangsters in NY (and Chicago). Funky little place with a fun history. I don't regret the $$ spent. About a 45 minute tour with great tour guides. I thought it was a fun way to spend part of the afternoon. Nice that you can end with a drink at the...
If you look up from Cooper Square to the roof of the Cooper Union Foundation Building, you can see a round, funnel-like structure that is, in fact, the top of the world's first elevator shaft.
It was put there during the construction of the building in the 1850s on the orders of Peter Cooper, who decided that his new building--...
Stopped in here to learn more about our Ukrainian heritage. Easter Egg exhibit was amazing - lots to learn and look at. There are only three galleries and the other two were filled with modern artists and basket weaving exhibits. Hoped there would be more history, but still enjoyed it.
"Alexander Hamilton's rebel attitude enlivens funky house of worship"
reviewed 1 July 2017 by Barnaby H
No kidding! This church, with Hamilton as one of the founders maintains its iconoclast cred with superb music, clean, simple, yet funky, interior. A place that truly celebrates diversity. And now with a new minister, the great, Rev. Anne Sawyer - this church can't be stopped. And a church offering a Disco Service - I mean, come on, this place...
Traditional fish diner in the most charming 1930s diner ambience you can imagine.
Russ & Daughters offers a wonderful variety of self made smoked Fisches
And wonderful Jewish additions.
Just have in mind that you might need to wait up to 1 h when it's really busy, so don't go there if you don't have any time
We needed breakfast in the city for the five of us that included a veggie option as well as dishes for the carnivores at the table. This old time favorite fit the bill. Yes there was a wait for the table. It was Sunday in Manhattan, deal with it! Service was quick once we were seated and it was friendly...
The Bowery Hotel never fails to deliver a warm welcome and a luxurious stay. In the years I've been staying, I can only say the staff get better and better. Last week, during NYFW, the staff were professional, helpful, unfazed and fun. Well worth the extra mile for a great sleep in a home from home.
This is my 4th stay at a Standard hotel and whilst it wasn't my favourite it was still great. It's another very cool hotel. Rooms are really small but it's NYC, and showering while looking at the Chrysler building more than made up for it. Location is convenient to LES and everything it offers.
Only cons are that the curtains...
We were looking for a double-double room for move-in day at NYU. We could only get a one-bed room at The Standard, so I continued to look for a hotel near the Second Street Residence -- and The Gatsby Hotel was a great find! Room was bigger than expected based on other reviews, and was just fine for the three...
So I am trying to conform to industry standards

I have it 4/5 but standards would put it at a 2 or 3
