We went for Sunday lunch and thankfully had been advised to get there early, we are glad that we did! This is a popular pub and for good reason. A great selection of beer and drinks on the menu and a very good food menu...More

I have been going here for over 20 years but only recently did "young Mike" grip the situation and the fruits of his Team's Labours are here to see. While the toasted sandwiches of yore were absolutely spot on, now one is left in constant...More

Best pub imaginable, Gazpacho, better than I have had in Spain, Herrings roe, amazing, and all in the perfect setting. Don't go, you might spoil it for us!

Met up with some dear friends at this gorgeous old country inn. Authentic isn't the word. Mind your head on the ceilings and the boars heads that stick out from the walls. Great atmosphere and the food was scrumptious. So much on my plate I...More

I have visited the Royal Oak regularly since 1980. The current team have taken the best English pub backdrop imaginable and added a good pub food addition. Don't be intimidated by the locals at the bar when you walk in, make yourself at home and...More

Had dinner here about a month ago. Can't really fault them on anything. Nothing was "amazing", but it was all very good, tasty, and delivered by a friendly and helpful staff. I'd definitely return. It's also worth noting that this is a classic oldy worldy...More

I have been visiting the Royal Oak for over 10 years. The atmosphere has always been pleasant and the food good. However it is time for the menu to be revised as it is rather ordinary and does not seem to change. The lunch menu...More

We had a delicious lunch here. Although our order took a little time to arrive, it was worth the wait and the Spanish chef was delightful. Her Spanish influence was evident in the duck with chorizo and butterbean dish and the fishcakes were also excellent...More

When I visited last Monday evening there was enough gas in my pint of 'Harvey's Best' to blow up a balloon, definitely NOT real ale - what's going on please?

Weird, Harvey's have changed their recipe recently, so it can travel further, i.e. Bigger market, but needs to settle for longer. The Royal Oak beer comes straight from the barrel, mine on Wednesday was perfect, am sure Mike... More

Hi Gregor, I think you may be reviewing the wrong pub, I'm one of the chefs at the royal oak and we definitely don't have a pizza bias. we don't even have a pizza on the menu. We also never have a sign up warning of waits, I think you ,may be talking about the bull which has a reputation for pizza kind regards Pete
